Bride Breastfeeds Her Daughter in the Middle of Her Wedding

Oh the benefits of strapless wedding dresses… They keep you cool in the summer months, show off those gorgeous arms of yours, and are quite convenient when you need to pause mid-ceremony for an impromptu breastfeeding. Okay, maybe that last feature hasn’t exactly crossed your mind until now, but one bride in Montreal discovered that nifty little benefit when her nine-month-old daughter began fussing at her wedding ceremony — and she lowered her gorgeous gown right then and there to feed her little one!

A bride knows she has to be prepared for any mid-wedding hiccup that might occur during her big day and Christina Torino-Benton handled hers in stride. When this super mom’s flower girl — her baby daughter Gemma — began crying in the middle of her June 18 wedding to her childhood sweetheart Danny Benton, she turned to her new hubby and said, “It’s happening.” She then subtly slipped her breast out of her wedding dress at the Resurrection of Our Lord Church and began breastfeeding. Hey, a good bride makes sure all of her wedding guests eat, right?

“I made it work… I had to!” the bride told The Huffington Post. “Danny has always been so incredibly supportive on this breastfeeding journey, so he just nodded in agreement.” Due to their noon nuptials, little Gemma was forced to give up her afternoon nap — which made for a very unhappy flower girl. But after just a few minutes of breastfeeding with her mama, Christina’s daughter fell into a deep slumber for the rest of the ceremony. “This is something that has become so natural in my life that I didn’t even have to think about it,” Torino-Benton told People of the mid-ceremony feeding. “She needed me, so I was there.”

The couple’s wedding photographer Lana Nimmons ended up capturing a snapshot of the bride’s supermom moment (below) and posted it to a breastfeeding support group on Facebook. The pic (see below) has since gone viral, garnering countless likes and tons of kind words towards this beautiful bride.

“If I could breastfeed in a Catholic church during a wedding, maybe other women will feel more comfortable to do the same just about anywhere,” muses Torino-Benton to Self. “You should be able to feed your baby no matter where you are, I don’t think anywhere should be considered inappropriate.”

A word to the wise: Just make sure you get yourself a strapless wedding dress for easy access, first!
