It certainly goes without saying that finding a wedding dress is definitely one of the biggest wedding planning tasks for most brides. But for Lexie of TLC’s My Giant Life, the job is, well, giant. Sure, hunting down the perfect gown that simultaneously shows off your tiny waist, hides the areas you’re not as confident about, and doesn’t drown your frame in fabric is tough. But try finding a wedding dress that fits when you’re 6 foot 6 inches tall. We’re tipping our hats off to you, Lexie!
One of the stars of TLC’s My Giant Life, which features the lives of unusually tall women, stopped by a bridal boutique in the latest episode of the series. 6’6 bride-to-be Lexie is well into wedding planning for her nuptials to her long-distance fiancé Harrison — who she’s six inches taller than, by the way! — and finding her dream dress is next up on her to-do list. “Trying clothes on sometimes is a tough task,” Lexie says in a sneak peek of the scene shared with Us Weekly. “They don’t make dressing rooms for 6-foot-6 girls. They make them for average, 5-foot-5 girls.” In case you needed a visual, Lexie stands in the dressing room of the bridal boutique — with her head and shoulders well above the height of the curtain! “Sometimes [fellow shoppers] have to close their eyes [when I try on clothes] — or get a good look.” Yikes!
But there’s no stopping a bride-to-be when she’s on a mission and Lexie certainly is on one to find the gorgeous gown of her dreams. But that’s of course not without its setbacks. “If I want to go longer, I have to go up in size. But if I go up in size, it gets way too wide in this area,” Lexie notes when trying on a strapless tea-length number. But after necklines that are too deep and hemlines that are too short, this bride finally finds ‘the one’ in the form of a mermaid-cut ruffled wedding dress with a sweetheart neckline.
“I think this is the one,” Lexie says, fighting back the tears. “Actually I know that this is the one because it’s the only one that fits!” See? These is a wedding dress out there for everyone! (Or at least a seamstress…)
