A Paris-Inspired Wedding Color Palette Fit for the Chicest Mademoiselles

Paris: The city of lights, love, and endless wedding inspiration. How could we resist stealing a beautiful bundle of wedding ideas from France’s über-trendy capital? Couple a color palette of Parisian-chic shades (think pretty pastels, beautiful blushes, and glowing golds) and a few French-themed darling details and you’ve got yourself a très belle wedding that’ll have your guests checking oui, oui! on that RSVP card the moment they pull the invitation out of their mailbox.

So how does one harness the hauteness of one of Europe’s top tourist destinations? A classical-chic wedding invitation paints a picture of the French bourgeois bash to come, with it’s cool, clean lines and traditional typography.

Next, choose a gorgeous gown full of that je ne sais quoi fit for a walk down the Champs-Élysées — or wedding aisle! A French mademoiselle knows that she doesn’t need a complicated or over-the-top silhouette to shine. This Amsale gown is full of enough grace and elegance to make it totally wedding-worthy while still toting that naturally cool, French girl style. Pair it with a bejeweled clutch that’s oh so Coco Chanel.

While a venue that totes a backdrop of the Eiffel Tower would be nice (a girl can dream, can’t she?), an international address isn’t necessary for a reception dripping with a Parisian vibe. Scent your space like a French girl would, with splurgey fragrant candles. (We love the sweet smells that drift from these Voluspa candles.) And as for your tableware, note that layered glass and crystal pieces reflect light, brightening up your table and giving it an old-world feel.

Pull a Marie Antoinette and let your guests eat cake — a pretty, blush-hued confection to be exact! Then, send them off with those famous French Ladurée chocolate bars, wrapped in daintily-colored papers that match your pretty-in-pastle color palette. Not a chance that they’ll be shouting “Off with her head!” after that — no matter how big of bridezilla you end up being!

From top left: Mini chocolate bars, $7 each, Ladurée; Clutch, $1,890, Oscar de la Renta available at Zappos; Wedding cake, $9 per slice, Coco Paloma Desserts; Dress, $310, Amsale Bridesmaids; “Elegant Declaration” invitation, starting at $199 for 100 invitations and envelopes, Wedding Paper Divas; Shoes, $1,495, Marchesa available at Moda Operandi; Candles, $20 to $28 each, Voluspa

A Foolproof Guide to Becoming BFFs With Your New Sister-In-Law

Getting along with your sister-in-law may not come naturally. Why? As John Duffy, Ph.D., parenting expert and author of The Available Parent, explains, “sister-in-laws are very protective of their brothers, and often see their potential sister-in-law as a threat to his happiness.” Eek. Not exactly the easiest of circumstances in which to establish a friendship. But it’s not impossible either. With these tips, you can be BFF with your new sister-in-law in no time.

Protect time for your relationship with your new family member.
No friendship can thrive without serious QT. “Sisters-in-law are best off when they protect time for their relationship with one another, treating it much the way they would any other relationship they are nurturing with any other female friend,” says Duffy. That means setting aside dedicated time to spend with your sister-in-law.

Talk about something other than the man in the middle.
Your husband brought you two together. But when you share a girls night out, Duffy recommends you steer the conversation clear of her brother. “These relationships work most effectively, and are most satisfying, when the man in the middle is not the sole topic of the connection,” he says. “You should talk about and connect on other levels than simply the marriage.”

Plan events together.
Work together to throw the big bash for a family member, or celebrate the summer with a co-hosted outdoor BBQ. “Sisters-in-law benefit from planning some events together,” says Duffy. “In doing so, they create collaboration instead of conflict. The event can be as ordinary as a family outing on an ordinary weekend, or Christmas dinner. The point here is coordination, cooperation and collaboration.”

Use your humor to your advantage.
When you and your sister-in-law butt heads, break out the jokes, Duffy suggests. “Injecting humor into any potentially-conflicted relationship is critical,” he says. “With sisters-in-law, they can create humor and levity on a meta-level, joking about the fact that their relationship is supposed to be conflictual. Oddly, this can draw the two women closer together.”

Learn to resolve conflict effectively.
Rather than letting any arguments fester and grow, talk it out. “Talking through their differences, coming up with points of agreement, and agreeing to disagree when they reach an impasse, are all important methods for conflict resolution [between sisters-in-law],” he says. “Focusing particularly on points of agreement is, I find, particularly effective in maintaining a healthy sister-in-law relationship.”

Don’t air your dirty laundry to the whole family.
When you do have a disagreement, try to keep it between you two, Duffy suggests.
“In the name of sustaining a relationship that does not become legendary within the family for it’s conflictual nature, sisters-in-law should recognize that not every issue needs be broadcast to the entire family,” he says. “Intra-family gossip can be so insidious, and can make small differences grow exponentially and unnecessarily. So, a bit of privacy between sisters-in-law can create a sense of intimacy between them, and avoid making emotional mountains out of momentary molehills.”

Celebrity Engagement Ring Cuts

Being ‘in’ on the proposal plan before your hubby-to-be pops the question certainly does have its benefits. You can make sure your manicure is on fleek for that engagement ring selfie, of course. And you can also have a hand in choosing that beautiful bauble, thereby ensuring it’s a sparkler you’ll want to wear forever… Or that it shares the same diamond cut as the engagement ring of your favorite celebrity!

Are you a Mariah Carey or Lady Gaga kind of a girl? That is, are emerald-cut diamonds or heart-shaped sparklers more your style? Behold the ten most popular diamond cuts — and famous ladies who wear ’em! So now when you hit the jewelers, you can tell the salesperson, “I want what Jennifer Aniston has!” (Minus the $500,000 price tag…) How cool would that be, right?

Alison Brie, Miley Cyrus, and Mila Kunis all rock classic round-cut engagement rings.

And for Jersey Shore royalty, Snooki, nothing less than the queenly cut would do. Her’s is set in a band featuring two-carat round-cut diamonds, as well.

5 Unforgettable Love Poems to Consider Using During Your Wedding Ceremony

The wedding ceremony is one of the most emotional and heartfelt moments of the entire day. It’s the time when two people, surrounded by their loved ones, come together and promise a future filled with happiness, loyalty, and the creation of endless memories. So whether you want to write your own vows or not, reading a love poem is the perfect way to add an additional layer of depth to your ceremony. Looking for the right poem to read? Here are 5 unforgettable love poems to consider using during your wedding.

1. “Love Is Friendship Caught Fire”, by Laura Hendricks

Love and friendship is so closely connected and most lasting relationships start off as strong friendships. This is a poem that highlights that journey and is something that so many couples can relate to.

2. “A History of Love”, by Diane Ackerman

While you may think this poem is going to dive in a long story about the history of love throughout the years, the words are short, sweet and concise and call out only the most prominent and important parts of the history and evolution of love.

3. “I Love You”, by Roy Croft
In place of writing your own vows, this poem is a great stand in verse to explain the promises of love now and in the future. It’s the perfect way to describe the ways you love your partner and how you can’t wait for your love to grow.

4. “Looking For Your Face”, by Rumi
We all spend countless time dreaming of who our forever person will be and when we’ll cross paths with them. This poem highlights that journey and explains what happens when that love is found.

5. “Sonnet XLIII”, from “Sonnets from the Portuguese”, by Elizabeth Barrett Browning
If you’re looking for a classic touch, this poem is the one to use in your ceremony. It’s a poem that can be read from the bride, the groom, or even a close family member.

Can I Bring My Son or Daughter as My Plus-One?

Congratulations, your invitation to your friend’s wedding included a plus-one! With costs rising and guest lists shrinking, being invited with a guest is less common than it used to be. That “and Guest” on your envelope usually refers to a significant other, but if you’re single or your spouse can’t make it, can you bring your kid instead? Here’s what our experts have to say.

If you were invited as a couple (for example, Sarah and James Brown or Sarah Michaels and James Brown) and the date named on your invitation can’t attend, don’t assume that you can swap them out for one of your children — especially if it is an adults-only reception. If you know the couple well, you could inquire as to whether you could bring a child instead, but you really should simply RSVP for yourself and attend solo.

Was no one specified on your invitation? First, check to see if the wedding is adults-only. Some couples opt to not invite any children to their wedding, so be sure to confirm before even considering bringing along a pre-teen as your date. Then, if there’s nothing to indicate that kids can’t attend, check with the couple before adding your son or daughter to your RSVP card. A quick phone call saying “James will be traveling for work that weekend, could I bring our daughter Alice with me?” is to-the-point, and you’ll get a yes or no answer in return.

Additionally, keep the age of your child in mind. Are they old enough to sit at the table with you, stay out past 9 p.m., and maybe even join Mom or Dad on the dance floor? Great. If they’re younger, would need a kids’ meal and are more interested in coloring books than socializing with adults, you should probably attend the wedding solo instead. Bringing young children who are specified on the invitation is one thing (after all, the couple knows that your son is four!), but if they weren’t anticipating having a toddler in attendance, bringing one to the wedding with you would require additional accommodations on the part of the couple that they hadn’t planned on.

WATCH: This Flower-Filled Brooklyn Wedding Will Have You Seriously Rethinking Your Décor Budget

With steamy temps across the county, we don’t blame brides-to-be for spending an afternoon indoors with a cool drink for a few hours of wedding planning. But if you’re struggling to find inspiration, then you you’re in luck: Our real wedding video channel is packed with beautiful celebrations, all filled with unique ideas and gorgeous details to help you plan your own big day. Each week we’ve been spotlighting one of our favorite new parties, and today we’re taking you inside Grace and Till’s ultra-romantic wedding in Brooklyn, New York. Kiss the Bride Films joined this duo for a charming fall wedding at the Wythe Hotel, and you’re going to love the details they captured.

From the very beginning, Grace and Till totally nailed their vibe. With epic flowers used in every aspect of their celebration, the couple’s invitation, complete with a flower petal design, totally explains the wedding’s look to guests. And while their paper products were certainly sweet, the real thing was even better. From the bride’s bouquet — a loose, organic arrangement of dahlias, hydrangeas, roses, and greenery — to the leafy ceremony structure and the mismatched centerpieces, Grace and Till made sure their day was packed with punchy floral elements. Even the ceiling was draped with greenery and blooms!

While the décor was certainly something special, we can’t look at Grace and Till’s wedding without noting their great dance moves. Their choreographed first dance will give you something to aspire to, and their reception dances were pretty awesome, too. But when the bride hit the dance floor with professionals (clad in sparkly dresses, no less!) she showed us she can do more than twirls and dips: You’ll want to take a second look at her high kick!

There was plenty more to love about this ultra-romantic wedding, too. Grace made a list of “important” things to remember that she kept with her while getting ready. Chief among them? Their rings and marriage license, followed by chocolates, food, and her wedding dress. You might consider doing the same on your big day! We also loved the emotional speeches at their reception, including a humorous moment when Grace’s father referred to Till as his son, and then asked him to help him down from the chair he stood on to deliver the kind words.

The 5 People You Should Leave Off Your Wedding Guest List

When you’re starting to jot down the names of people you want to be part of your wedding day, you may have a whole category of people you’re scratching your head over, wondering if you should extend them an invite. Whether it’s a person you haven’t spoken to in more years than you can remember or a person that has a bad reputation for making a party all about them, for the very wrong reasons, it’s important to pick and choose the people you surround yourself with on your big day very, very carefully. For starters, here are the 5 kinds of people it’s more than OK to leave off your wedding guest list.

1. The Random Wedding Invite
You may have been invited to a friend’s wedding last year or a few years back, but it doesn’t mean that said friend earns an automatic invitation to your wedding. Don’t feel bad if you don’t return the favor and extend an invite, especially if you haven’t spoken to the person since his or her wedding.

2. The MIA Friend
Even if you were once good friends and the friend was a big part of your life, if you haven’t kept in touch with him or her, you don’t have to add another name to the list. Weddings are a time of celebration, but they aren’t a time to refuel long lost friendships.

3. The Negative Nancy

Some people in your life may show up to every party you have with frowns on their faces and make it a point to highlight what’s going wrong to everyone else. If that’s the case, you might want to cut your Negative Nancy from your guest list. Your wedding is too expensive of an event for someone to come and nit-pick all of the imperfections or things he or she would have done differently.

4. The Distant Relative
Weddings are, in a sense, giant family reunions, as it’s a time when family from all over come together for a weekend. But, weddings are not a time to locate family you haven’t seen or spoken to in forever in order to invite them to your big day.

5. The One Who Always Ruins the Party
You know that person — the one who has five shots too many. The one who needs to be carried out of the venue at the end of the night. The one who will talk loudly during the toasts and dance wildly on the dance floor. While they may be someone near and dear to you, it’s important that you feel comfortable with the guests in attendance. Make sure that if you do decide to invite that person that you have a little heart-to-heart beforehand about their behavior.

Cameron Diaz Just Made Us Cry With What She Said About Husband Benji Madden

Cameron Diaz and Benji Madden

Photo: Getty Images

In case you needed a little pick-me-up today, just remember that these two cuties exist and are currently living in wedded bliss! Cameron Diaz just got all lovey-dovey on social media, penning a heartfelt message to her hubby Benji Madden, reminding us just how much we love this perfect pair together — even though we’re still a little miffed that we’ve yet to see wedding photos from their secret nupitals last year. (We should really just let that one go, right?) Nonetheless, the actress’ sweet words are guaranteed to get an aww from you, too!

Diaz and Madden were never the type of Hollywood couple who tried to grab the spotlight. After dating for less than a year, the twosome quietly tied the knot in January of 2015, standing in their own living room with their closest friends, like celebrities Reese Witherspoon, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Drew Barrymore. And despite dedicating her book, The Longevity Book: The Science of Aging, the Biology of Strength, and the Privilege of Time, Diaz has only publicly gushed over her hubs a handful of times. Back in April, she appeared on Andy Cohen’s radio show, where she recalled how she and Madden became an item. “It was one of those things where everyone just tells you, ‘You just know when you know,'” Diaz said. “I was like, ‘What does that mean? Oh, I get it. You just know.’ Like you’re my husband.” Gahhh! So cute, right? But it’s been a few months since we’ve heard from the happily-wedded actress and rocker. Maybe that’s why Diaz’s latest public declaration of love for her sweetheart has got us all choked up. (Or it could just be the fact that her kind words are so sugary sweet…)

Diaz took to the ‘Gram last night to post a video of one of the latest performance by the Good Charlotte guitarist, and it sounds like she couldn’t be more proud of her hubby’s skills.

“One of my favorite things about being married is how much pride I take in my husband,” Diaz wrote in the video’s caption. He makes me proud everyday. One day might be how generous and giving, another how gentle and thoughtful. Or when he is fiercely protective of people he loves and cares about. And every single day I am so incredibly proud of her integrity as a human being.” Ugh! Be still our hearts — we can’t take the cuteness!

Thanks for the new #MarriageGoals, Diaz! Oh, and for bringing to our attention yet another benefit of being married to a bonafide rock star: Free concerts!

One of my favorite things about being married, is how much pride I take in my husband @benjaminmadden… He makes me proud everyday.. One day it might be how generous and giving, another how gentle and thoughtful. Or when he is fiercely protective of the people he loves and cares about… And everyday single day I am so incredibly proud of his integrity as a human being.. But TODAY what I'm most proud of is his talent… his gift…. Today his band @goodcharlotteband released their first album in 6 years #YouthAuthority .. What makes me even more proud is that he has released it on his own independent label MDDN… And it is so damn GOOOOOOOOD… Its so full of love and hope and truth… about forging and holding onto love… I wish that everyone could write music to express their pain.. their fears… their hopes and dreams. Baby you amaze me… CONGRATS!! @goodcharloteband @mddnco #youthauthority #proud http://apple.co/YouthAuthority
