Watch This 6'6 Bride Struggle to Try on Wedding Dresses — and Find the One!

It certainly goes without saying that finding a wedding dress is definitely one of the biggest wedding planning tasks for most brides. But for Lexie of TLC’s My Giant Life, the job is, well, giant. Sure, hunting down the perfect gown that simultaneously shows off your tiny waist, hides the areas you’re not as confident about, and doesn’t drown your frame in fabric is tough. But try finding a wedding dress that fits when you’re 6 foot 6 inches tall. We’re tipping our hats off to you, Lexie!

One of the stars of TLC’s My Giant Life, which features the lives of unusually tall women, stopped by a bridal boutique in the latest episode of the series. 6’6 bride-to-be Lexie is well into wedding planning for her nuptials to her long-distance fiancé Harrison — who she’s six inches taller than, by the way! — and finding her dream dress is next up on her to-do list. “Trying clothes on sometimes is a tough task,” Lexie says in a sneak peek of the scene shared with Us Weekly. “They don’t make dressing rooms for 6-foot-6 girls. They make them for average, 5-foot-5 girls.” In case you needed a visual, Lexie stands in the dressing room of the bridal boutique — with her head and shoulders well above the height of the curtain! “Sometimes [fellow shoppers] have to close their eyes [when I try on clothes] — or get a good look.” Yikes!

But there’s no stopping a bride-to-be when she’s on a mission and Lexie certainly is on one to find the gorgeous gown of her dreams. But that’s of course not without its setbacks. “If I want to go longer, I have to go up in size. But if I go up in size, it gets way too wide in this area,” Lexie notes when trying on a strapless tea-length number. But after necklines that are too deep and hemlines that are too short, this bride finally finds ‘the one’ in the form of a mermaid-cut ruffled wedding dress with a sweetheart neckline.

“I think this is the one,” Lexie says, fighting back the tears. “Actually I know that this is the one because it’s the only one that fits!” See? These is a wedding dress out there for everyone! (Or at least a seamstress…)

5 Foolproof Ways to Make Your Groom's Wedding Suit Pop

How-to-Make-His-Wedding-Suit-Pop.jpg

Photo: Courtesy of Brackish

You’re not a basic bride, so girls, don’t let your groom be anything but extraordinary on the big day either! Memories may fade, but pictures last forever, and you’ll both want to look back on those images one day thinking, “Dang, we looked good, didn’t we?” From finding the perfect fit to making all the little details count, here are 5 foolproof ways to ensure your groom’s wedding suit pops and is seriously on point, thanks to the CEO and co-founder of Brackish feather bow ties, Jeff Plotner.

1. Kick the neckwear up a notch
Whether you’re having a fancy black tie affair in a five-star hotel or an intimate bohemian wedding in an enchanted forest, a dapper bow tie (like Brackish’s Guinea or Original) that stands out from the crowd is a must. Don’t be afraid to play around with patterns and color, especially if you’re keeping the rest of your look fairly simple.

2. Put his feet first
Yes, grooms should splurge on a nice pair of shoes for the big day. Unlike you, he’ll actually be able to wear them again (to work) and get his money’s worth. “Plus, they’re not only crucial to his wedding look, but his overall comfort throughout the evening as well,” explains Plotner. Some of his favorite go-to brands for grooms include Edward’s Shoes and Billy Reid, especially for the Double Monk Straps, he says. While playful socks are fun peeking out in a few photos too, stick to the classics when it comes to wedding footwear and let the shoe’s elegant details speak for themselves.

3. Focus on the right fit
He didn’t settle for you (duh), so he def shouldn’t settle for an ill-fitting suit. As Plotner points out, a properly-tailored suit will look good at every angle, and that’s what counts. Pick the garment that fits best in the chest and shoulders, he advises, as tailors can’t do much in that department. Don’t worry, a knowledgeable associate at a reputable store should be able to point your groom in the right direction. Also, have him pay special attention to the sleeve and pant length once he’s made his pick. “If you want a custom look without custom prices, consider additional tapering through the body of the suit, coat and legs of the pants,” recommends Plotner. “Modern details like side vents and flat-front pants should be a given, and for the true clothing connoisseur, working suit sleeve buttonholes are always a nice touch.”

4. Make every detail count
Because it’s all in the details! Accent his look with a lapel pin or a pocket square for a subtle compliment to his suit or tux, suggests Plotner. “For example, our Plum Thicket Pins, which are often worn on the lapel, are created from wild plum thicket thorns that are foraged in the midlands of South Carolina, dried, and paired with hand selected feathers by our team of artisans.” Now, how’s that for unique?

5. Don’t hang the groomsmen out to dry
They’re a direct representation of your groom so you’ll want to make sure they’re dressed accordingly. For this reason, Plotner thinks rentals generally aren’t the best idea. “A black tux, navy or grey suit are traditional staples in every man’s wardrobe. Selecting one of these classic styles for the groomsmen to wear on the wedding day could potentially save them some dough or give them a good reason to make a stylish purchase with the future in mind.”

Wedding bells are ringing in the sports world! Serbian tennis star Ana Ivanovic and Manchester United midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger, who is also the captain of the German national soccer team, married at Venice’s Palazzo Cavalli — the same location of George and Amal Clooney’s famous nuptials. And the photos of the pro athletes’ Italian wedding are just lovely.

The pro athlete couple just experienced their fair share of losses as of late — sports team losses, that is — so their nuptials came as much-needed happy celebrations for the two. Having just waived the white flag at the Wimbeldon tournament to Ekaterina Alexandrova, 28-year-old Ivanovic was defeated from the renown tennis tournament on June 27. Schweinsteiger, 30, had a similar experience during the Euro Cup semifinals when his Germany team lost to France.

Luckily for the newlyweds, their wedding brought a little joy into their lives following their career setbacks — and they tied the knot Tuesday morning at Palazzo Cavalli (also known as the Venice City Hall) in Italy. The bride wore a floor-length, ruffled column gown with a keyhole opening — designed by the brand Parker — that cost a whopping $298, according to WWD. This just goes to show that you don’t always need to spend a ton of money to seriously slay you big-day look even when you’re a celebrity or pro athlete (just ask Kelly Ripa). The stunning bride wore her hair down in a simple do, showing off her gorgeous locks in an understated, loose style, and she rocked a natural makeup look.

The groom wore a dark navy suit with a white button down and patterned pocket square (with no tie to be found!), and he donned a white boutonniere — to match his new wife’s white bouquet of roses. The two left the ceremony at Palazzo Cavalli beaming from ear to ear and then headed out to catch a boat ride to their reception, according to The Daily Mail (because when in Venice…).

Well-wishers and tourists flocked to congratulate the couple as they walked to their getaway boat. Word on the street is that the couple kept their nuptials and location pretty hush-hush, only telling their guests to show up at the airport with little info besides the date and time to arrive.

The guest list for the reception is said to include Germany coach Joachim Low, Schweinsteiger’s teammate Thomas Muller, and Munich president Uli Hoeness. While their ceremony was small and consisted of mainly family members and close friends, many of their colleagues and friends took to social media to publicly share well-wishes. Football friend Robert Lewandowski wrote “Congratulations! Wishing you a marriage filled with love and happiness @AnaIvanovic & @BSchweinsteiger,” while the Women’s Tennis Association shared “Congrats to newlyweds @AnaIvanovic and @BSchweinsteiger” on Twitter. Lots of love and emojis for these newlyweds on the interwebs!

With Italian nuptials this chic and intricate, we can only imagine their honeymoon plans. Of course, we’re assuming they won’t be going to France for their first vacay stop. Definitely too soon for Schweinsteiger. Congrats, lovebirds! See more of their beautiful photos below.

7 Annoying Questions People Will Ask You About Your Wedding

annoying questions people ask couples while planning

Photo: Getty Images

As soon as he slips that ring on your finger, you expect a crash of commentary in the form of well-wishes. But you don’t necessarily prepare for the barrage of questions that will inevitably come and annoy you. So get ready: Here are seven super-annoying questions most brides will here, and the best way to respond to each one.

1. Oh you’re getting married? When? I’ll put it on my calendar.
According to Amy Nichols, owner of Amy Nichols Special Events and co-founder of The Poppy Group, almost every couple will hear get this question from unassuming friends or coworkers expecting an invitation. “But the reality is, everyone in your life cannot be invited,” Nichols says. And because of that, it’s best not to indulge the questioner with a direct answer. Instead, Nichols says, consider saying something like, “We haven’t completely finalized the plans, but we’re thinking it’s going to be an intimate affair.”

2. How big is your ring?
Call it simple curiosity or seriously green with envy. But regardless of the motive, says Jaclyn Fisher, owner of Philadelphia-based Two Little Birds Planning, you’ll like be put on the spot about the size of your rock. “Whether you know the answer or not, it’s easy to feel like you and your ring are being judged,” she commiserates. Don’t guess at the size of your diamond, or plan into a green monster’s trap. Fisher says the perfect response is simply, “I love it and think it’s the perfect size for me!”

3. Who have you invited?
“There’s always one nosy guest who wants to know exactly who’s invited and who’s RSVP’d,” promises Nichols. Why? He or she may want to know if they’ll recognize anyone at his or her table, or whether there will be other singles with whom they can mingle. It’s usually just curiosity that compels people to ask this question, but it doesn’t make it any less annoying. “Kindly appease their curiosity by saying, ‘we won’t know that information until we’ve received our final RSVPs, but thank you for asking,'” Nichols suggests.

4. Can I bring a guest, or my kids?
Beyond knowing who made your guest list, a guest or two will want to know if they can bring a plus-one, or whether you’re throwing a kid-friendly fete. “But your venue and budget only allow for a certain number of people, and you’ve planned your guest list accordingly, which is why it’s especially annoying when someone asks if they can bring a plus-one or their kids,” says Fisher. “Even though you may feel uncomfortable being put on the spot, it’s OK to say no. If you feel like you need to give an explanation, let them know that it’s due to the budget or venue capacity.”

5. Are you planning to lose weight before the big day?
Nichols says what we’re all thinking when this silly question is asked: “Assuming that just because you’re about to get married that you must start starving yourself or spending your weekends tied to a treadmill is pretty ridiculous,” she says. “Your fiance picked you.” And that means you don’t have to crash diet or give into this line of questioning in the weeks leading up to the big day. Instead, “respond politely with a simple, ‘I’m incredibly fortunate to be marrying a man who loves me just the way I am,'” Nichols suggests.

6. Can I sit with [insert name here]?
You want to make your guests happy and comfortable at your wedding. But, “while you want to do everything you can to make your guests content, planning the table assignments is hard enough without taking special requests into account,” says Fisher. But that won’t stop several guests for making seating assignment requests. “Saying that you’ll do you best to accommodate them lets them know that you’ll try, but you’re not making any promises,” Fisher advises.

7. Isn’t that expensive?
According to Nichols, “It is absolutely no one’s business how much you are spending on your wedding. But that doesn’t mean you won’t receive questions about the cost of the favors, the peonies, or the gown.” Money is usually a very private topic for most people, so this question will probably make you squirm. “Answer in a way that will stop the conversation by saying, ‘We’ve been very lucky to be able to purchase the things we’d like for the wedding day. Thank you for your concern,'” Nichols says.

5 Must-Watch Wedding Movie Toasts

Gearing up for an upcoming wedding where you have give a wedding toast? It may be good to do your homework and check out some of the legendary wedding speeches that people have laughed to, cried to, and even cringed at. Whether it’s to learn what to do or what not to do, watching movie wedding speeches is a great way to pregame for your shinning moment. Here are the top five wedding movie toasts you just have to watch.

1. Bridesmaids
Who can forget the epically awkward engagement toast battle between Kristen Wiig and Rose Byrne’s characters in this funny flick? It’s clear both want to showcase how much the bride means to them and how amazing their friendship is with one another, but it quickly morphs into a competition between members of the bridal party — and the focus of the bride is lost. This is one of those speeches that teaches you what not to do, especially if you’re giving a co-maid of honor speech.

2. Wedding Crashers
While the movie, in general, is an epic adventure of two guys who crash weddings to pick up chicks, the speech given by Rachel McAdams’ character at her sister’s wedding is actually quite moving and emotionally perfect (once she lays off the cheap jabs at the newlyweds’ superficiality). Her toast includes an unforgettable quote — albeit stolen from Owen Wilson’s character — that many have used in their wedding toasts since, “True love is the soul’s recognizing of its counterpoint in another.”

3. Four Weddings and a Funeral
One of the most endearing and beautiful lines from any movie wedding toast comes from this movie when Hugh Grant’s character says, “I am as ever in bewildered awe of anyone who this kind of commitment that Angus and Laure have made today. I know I couldn’t do it and I think it’s wonderful they can.”

4. The Five-Year Engagement
This movie can be relatable to those with — what else? — super long engagements and a wedding that feels like it’s never actually going to happen. But the wedding toast in this movie uses a dose of humor that gets the audience laughing, a technique that all good wedding toasts should try to tackle.

Editors note: We couldn’t find the toast anywhere online, so you’ll just have to watch it the old fashioned way — by renting the DVD or streaming on Netflix.

5. The Hangover Part II
In The Hangover Part II, Alan (played by Zach Galifianakis) gives quite the awkward speech that both makes the audience cringe and seems like it doesn’t have much of a focus or a point. It’s a great example of what not to do in your groomsman toast… ever.

Christian Siriano's Wedding Video is Pretty Much Guaranteed to Make You Cry

Christian Siriano spent his stint on Project Runway following Tim Gunn’s “Make it work,” advice, but now the fashion designer has committed to making it work with his forever sweetheart. Siriano and his longtime love Brad Walsh have tied the knot and gave BRIDES an exclusive sneak peek inside their wedding day via a so-beautiful-it’ll-make-you-cry wedding video.

Leave it to a famous couturier to throw a super stylish summertime white wedding! That too-trendy wedding attire… Those dreamy reception tents… That guest list of fashion A-listers… Le sigh. Did you really expect anything less than chic from Christian Siriano? On Saturday July 9, Siriano and Walsh said their “I dos” at their charming summer home in Danbury, Connecticut — and brought BRIDES along for the ride! Videographer McKenzie Miller captured all the magical moments of this too-cute couple’s big day and all of its standout details, starting with the wedding party’s gorgeous garb.

Siriano and Walsh requested that their guests pull out their best summer whites for the occasion, with the A-list bridesmaids (including performance artist Anna Hafner, singer Alicia Solombrino, blogger Nicolette Mason, and models Anna Schilling and Jasmine Poulton) wearing creamy couture creations designed by Siriano himself. “Since there was no bride, we wanted our best friends to wear white gowns,” the grooms told BRIDES. That left the sweethearts to steal the spotlight in a pair of dashing black tuxes by designer David Hart.

See how many other celebs you can spot in the stunning wedding video! Kelly Osbourne, Alicia Silverstone, and Kristen Johnston all made the star-studded guest list. (Johnston even officiated, customizing the couple’s “I do’s” to include some tearjerking quotes from The Velveteen Rabbit.) And the dazzling day proved that Orange White is the New Black with actresses Danielle Brooks and Jackie Cruz also in attendance.

We dare you not to get up and groove as the newlyweds and their guests dance the night away in the video above! And if you’re aching to see even more of Siriano and Walsh’s romantic ceremony, make sure you take a gander at the gorgeous wedding photos the grooms exclusively shared with us!

7 Tips to Make Sure Your 2016 Wedding Isn't Boring

cornhole

Photo: Erin McGinn

While weddings usually bring out a party-all-night kind of vibe and have an atmosphere of continuous fun, they can start to feel, well, a bit boring after a few hours, especially if your wedding is the seventh one your guests have attended that season. Looking for ways to ensure your wedding will be yawn-free? We’ve got your covered.

1. Have Other Activities
Your guests will want an alternative to spending all night dancing or waiting in line to step behind the camera in the photo booth. Pull in fun lawn games or life-size board games, like Jenga or even cornhole.

2. Do Right With a Late-Night Snack
Since guests usually stick around even longer at weddings and party into the wee hours of the morning at the official wedding after party, provide them with a late-night snack to keep them satiated. Space out serving the snack — whether it be burgers, pizza or little finger foods — so it’s available a couple of hours after dinner and wedding cake.

3. Have More Than One Open Bar
If you have a passion for whiskey or whipping up homemade margaritas, include a second or third bar that specializes in your favorite drink. You can even up the personalization of your wedding by including a bar that serves your signature wedding cocktail.

4. Skip the Traditions
Include the traditions and values that mean the most to you and your fiancé, and skip the formalities “just because.” Think about it this way: If you find the traditions meaningless and a little dull, then your wedding guests definitely will. Don’t do something just because you think you have to — it’s your wedding! And your guests want to see your personalities and spirits shine through.

5. Rethink the Sit Down Dinner
Not married to the idea of a three-course meal? Skip it. Instead, go for one of the other awesome alternatives to a sit down feast, whether it be a buffet, food stations, family style or something in between.

6. Say “Yes” to Social Media
In addition to giving your wedding a hashtag, encourage guests to pull out their phones and Snapchat, Instagram and post about your wedding in real-time to whatever other social media site they might prefer.

7. Get Visual With the Speeches
When your maid of honor and best man prepare their speeches, give them the option of creating video or using a photo element to complement their words — giving guests something to look at while they listen will help keep them engaged.

5 Ways to Find Joy Every Single Day

find joy every day

Photo: Getty Images

With the rise of gratitude journals and daily affirmations, you likely know how important it is to see the silver lining. But when you are stressed from work, your relationship, friendships or finances, it can be tough to take a moment and look at the things that are going right, instead of the ones that are causing you anxiety. As hard as we try to be mindful and present, let’s be real: sometimes it feels as though we are in auto pilot and life is passing us by. But if you’re always thinking ten steps ahead of what’s happening right now, you’ll never be able to savor the beauty found in some of life’s simplest — and yet, most impactful — moments.

If you want to see — and savor! — the joy of your life every single day, here are five effective strategies that will help you experience the happy parts, no matter what:

Move your body
Exercise is the key to living a happy, balanced life. But if you hate running and you force yourself to log miles, you probably won’t admire the flowers blooming along your path because you’ll be focused on how sore your legs are. The solution? Find a type of exercise that you enjoy and look forward to going to. Yoga is especially great after a long stressful day because it gives you strength and peace of mind. Also, when you feel like you have not eaten the healthiest throughout the day, exercise can help you restart your habits. Lastly, it will help boost energy when you are feeling tired!

Choose your company wisely
Having a good friend is important in keeping your morale high and focused. Even if you just need a quick pick-me-up from a friend, a two-minute phone call can go a long way. Friends help brighten your day and studies have shown that healthy, supportive friendships help you live longer, as well as boost your immune system.

Friends help you feel connected to something outside of yourself; sometimes we feel trapped or smothered inside our own thoughts, connecting with friends and help us get unstuck. But just like you’re being mindful of your thoughts and your perceptions, be choosy with who you decide to share your time with. A negative attitude can make it even harder to see the happiness around you.

Listen to good tunes
Music has the ability to change your mood almost immediately. Just consider your favorite class: it probably has the right type of songs that motivate you to push harder and faster. Take time creating a playlist that will get you out of your seat (and your head!) and dancing, and continue to add new upbeat songs to help get through rough days. If you need help getting started, find inspiration by following ClassPass on Spotify.

Write down the good stuff
If someone compliments your shoes or you get a good review from a co-worker, you feel good. Or, even noticing a stranger help another stranger out can help you see how much goodness there really is out there. Why not take five minutes — legit, that’s all it takes! — to document the things that made you happy? We’re sure you can find at least one each day.

If journaling is too old school, write it on your smartphone notepad! (Psst: some journal ideas here.) Seeing on paper (or on your phone) the encouraging, inspiring things that happened during the day will reinforce positivity in your life and help you keep happy thing at the forefront of your mind.

Be mindful of your thoughts
We’re definitely our own worst critics and often, the language we use to talk to ourselves is not the same we use with our co-workers, friends or frankly, strangers. Tell yourself, “I can do this” or “I can get through this” or “I deserve this.” It is important to speak kindly to yourself and always view yourself is an empowering way. Daily affirmations reinforce a positive outlook any person should have. A positive attitude toward oneself is key to maintaining happiness and emotional stability.

4 Sexy Items You Can Add to Your Registry (And Not Be Embarrassed)

sexy items for wedding registry

Photo: Getty Images

As Gloria Brame, Ph.D., sexologist and author of The Truth About Sex: A Sex Primer For The 21st Century, says, “the more sex loot, the merrier.” That’s true even when it comes to your wedding registry, where you can safely add sexy items while saving face — seriously.

Of course, adding items to your wedding registry that are meant only to enhance your sex life can be tricky. After all, “you may not want Aunt Matilda to know what kind of sex toys you prefer or your brother to know what brand of lube you use,” says Brame. These items are best added to a secret registry you share with only your closest, most trusted friends. “Or maybe you’d rather get your groom involved and create a wish list together with items for both of you,” Brame suggests.

But if you can think beyond sex toys to some safer options, you can give your sex life a boost without your guests being any the wiser. Here, Brame says, are four sexy items you can add to your registry without feeling embarrassed.

1. G-Rated sleepwear.
You might not want dear ol’ Aunt Matilda to buy you a see-through teddy. But she and your other guests might also be happy to help you splurge on plush robes, boudoir slippers, or even a lace-trimmed nightgown. “Things like good quality robes do not come cheap, and are something you and your groom will appreciate for years to come too,” says Brame.

2. Silk sheets.
You don’t want your wedding guests to know what you’re doing in bed. But adding silk sheets to your wedding registry doesn’t obviously point to sex — though it will make the act more pleasurable, Brame promises. “You will feel good and so will they, knowing that you are both wrapped in luxury on your wedding night,” she points out.

3. Body care products.
Brame recommends adding skin cream, hair oils, massage oils, aromatherapy kits, personal grooming kits, candles, specialty pillows, “and other small luxuries that will make your bedroom a sensual palace.” Why? Because, as she says, “pampering yourself will make you feel like a sex goddess.”

4. Hotel amenities.
Calling all brides and grooms with an alternative registry, such as a honeymoon registry: If your hotel offers amenities like an in-room couples massage or other spa indulgence, feel free to add these services to your registry. “These items will pump up the romance and intimacy during your honeymoon,” says Brame, “and keep your sexy hormones on high.”
