Signature Cocktails (above): This couple created two signature cocktails and had the drinks illustrated on a chalkboard sign: The Mrs. (lavender lemonade with Tito’s vodka) and The Mr. (Jameson and Coke).

Displayed on an Easel: For a more elegant look, choose a watercolor-painted and calligraphed drink menu to display at the reception.

Wooden Sign: If rustic is more your style, have an illustrator hand-letter and draw each signature drink onto a slice of wood.

Destination Wedding 101: Punta Cana, Dominican Republic

Stately palms, a gentle Caribbean breeze, beautiful beaches as far as the eye can see — Punta Cana has rightfully earned its place in the pantheon of iconic Caribbean wedding destinations. As a region, Punta Cana covers more than 30 miles of coastline on the Dominican Republic’s far eastern shores, beginning in Cap Cana and following the island’s curves north and west towards the heart of Punta Cana, aptly named the Coconut Coast.

For brides-to-be considering a Caribbean wedding, the Dominican Republic should definitely be on your radar. A quick direct flight from most major U.S. airports, traveling to Punta Cana does require a passport (although that means you’ll get a few memorable new stamps). Most resorts are all-inclusive with a touch of class, meaning that anything from poolside cocktails to room service to a dressy dinner date are bundled with the room rate. And many Punta Cana properties have a “resort within a resort” offering — an adults-only suite stay with some seriously luxe amenities worthy of your wedding stay.

To make planning the big day from afar as stress-free as possible, resorts that are experienced with hosting destination weddings will have a dedicated wedding planner or a wedding planning team on-site that knows the ins and outs of the property, can offer advice and local insights, and will be your behind-the-scenes organizers on your wedding day. It’s a good idea to leverage the services and expertise of the wedding team as much as possible — they’re there to be your eyes and ears on the ground and make sure everything goes off without a hitch.

Naturally, the biggest decisions when planning a wedding are location, date and budget. When researching your destination wedding, in Punta Cana or elsewhere, “always ask the hard hitting questions before making a commitment,” says Paradisus Corporate Romance Manager Marilyn Cairo, a Caribbean destination wedding expert. Resorts should be fully transparent with how their various wedding packages are priced; what each package entails; as well as any other costs that might be on the table, such as if a photographer is (or isn’t) included.

Paradisus, which has two properties in Punta Cana, the Paradisus Punta Cana Resort and the Paradisus Palma Real Golf & Spa, has a Romance Team at each site to handle all aspects of planning and logistics for the wedding day — and the rest of the weekend, as needed. Peak months for weddings in Punta Cana are January and February and also September, when brides can take advantage of lower room rates, reduced pricing on wedding packages and other bonus perks and offers.

For most brides getting married in Punta Cana, the wedding is a symbolic one. “Legal is so yesteryear,” Marilyn says. “You’ll save hundreds of dollars on the cost of a legal ceremony in another country if you take care of the legal paperwork in your home state. By the time you arrive in Punta Cana a few days in advance of your wedding, your only concerns should be to eat, drink, be happy — and wear your sunscreen.”

This Couple Legit Had a CrossFit Wedding — and the Photos are a Must-See

Almost every bride has fitness on her mind when prepping her body for her dream wedding, but would you go as far as a CrossFit-themed wedding?

Well, at this year’s CrossFit Games in Carson, California, one couple did just that!

Oliver Drewes and Christina Moore, a fitness-loving couple from Brooklyn, New York, married on Saturday after winning a Reebok WOD Wedding contest on social media, according to The Huffington Post.

The ceremony, which took place in the center of the StubHub Center, had minimal decorations except for a large Reebok logo made out of what look like red roses, and huge letters spelling out “better together” that were covered in white and green flowers. The bride and groom had matching Reebok sneakers that said “bride” and “groom” respectively, and they both opted for black and white workout gear instead of a dress and tux. The bride wore white sneakers, a white tennis skirt, and a white sports bra with a birdcage veil and bouquet of white flowers, while the groom wore black sneakers, a black workout t-shirt, and black shorts.

But their fitness ceremony didn’t stop at their outfits and decor. Drewes and Moore exchanged vows that were very fitting for the celebration.

“I promise to push you to achieve PRs while still no-repping you when you don’t break parallel,” the bride said. “In sickness and in health, until death do us part.”

After the ceremony, the newlyweds watched the CrossFit Games finals and sliced into some paleo wedding cake.

When asked who would win the CrossFit Games, Drewes had the sweetest answer that pretty much summed up the whole day.

“I won because I got to marry the woman of my dreams in the middle of the StubHub Center,” he said. You can see the heart warming moment in the video of the ceremony above.

A Super-Elegant Halloween Wedding on the Beach in Naples, Florida

You could call it fate that Kathryn and Murat met as freshmen at Yale in 2005. “We were both on the cross country team, and Murat’s room was directly above mine!” says Kat. Nine years later, under the guise of having dinner before their annual tradition of seeing the Nutcracker Ballet, Murat convinced Kat to head home from work early to walk their dog. “I was late getting home, and was worried we’d miss our reservation,” she remembers. “Instead, I opened the door to find Murat and our dog waiting for me, with Christmas songs playing, a decorated house, and a ring in his hand.” Of course she accepted his sweet proposal, and the pair spent the next 10 months planning a late-fall wedding at the Ritz-Carlton in Naples, Florida.

“We wanted to have as much of the party outside as possible, from the oceanfront ceremony to dinner in the open-air courtyard. Plus, we wanted our guests to have a chance to lounge on the beach and relax!” says Kat. With Detailz Events spearheading the planning and Anastasiia Photography behind the lens, the result was an October 31, 2015 wedding that was a far cry from Halloween. Bright shades of purples and pinks, lush flowers, shimmering gold, and a ton of candlelight came together for one of the most elegant fall weddings we’ve ever seen. Take a peek below!

Invitations decked out in confetti were shipped in bold blue envelopes. The gold and pink metallic accents hinted to guests about the colorful affair to follow.

“Truth be told, I never felt quite sure of my choice,” says Kat of her wedding dress. “I liked the matte finish, the texture, and the slim fit, but I never had that ‘moment’ you hear about.” Even without tears at the bridal salon, Kat stunned in the Vera Wang “Gemma” gown, with ivory tulle and a smattering of sequins across the skirt. The elegant yet understated gown was amped up with a lush, vibrant bouquet of fuchsia peonies.

Kat loves bright colors, and was thrilled to find hot pink gowns her friends loved. They all wore Nouvelle Amsale, choosing a variety of necklines that were right at home on the soft white beach. “I chose long dresses for my bridesmaids, hoping they would catch the breeze. It ended up being so hot, we were all sweltering!” Kat reveals.

Murat and his groomsmen all wore navy suits with white shirts (a nod to the colors of the couple’s alma mater!), finished off with pink ties to match the bridesmaids.

The ring bearer wore a miniature version of the groomsmen’s outfits, with the flower girl matching the bridesmaids in hot pink. “Our ring bearer, Jackson, had been thoroughly prepped by his parents, and insisted on having something to ‘protect’ even though we had no intention of tying the rings to his pillow,” Kat laughs. “And our flower girl, Claire, was so fun to get ready with. She was also incredibly efficient: She walked straight to the aisle, dumped out all of her petals, and started playing in the sand!”

The waterfront ceremony took place beneath a wooden altar draped with vibrant pink blooms. “We didn’t write our own vows. We felt like we’d be trying to come up with something witty for the audience instead of something meaningful for ourselves,” says Kat.

The pair did, however, personalize their ceremony with readings, including The First Letter of Saint Paul to the Corinthians (a nod to her Irish Catholic heritage), a poem by Turkish poet Nazim Hikmet (in honor of his Turkish roots), and an excerpt from The Velveteen Rabbit.

For their luxe seated dinner, the bride and groom settled on a combination of round and long tables arranged throughout the hotel’s courtyard. Tables were topped with navy, gold, and purple linens, and centerpieces ranged from clusters of bud vases to towering candelabras dripping with roses, ranunculus, lisianthus, and hydrangeas in shades of purple and hot pink.

Table assignments were printed onto gold-framed mirrors and arranged at the entrance to the dinner space. At their seats, guests received gold boxes full of candy — it was Halloween, after all!

The head table overlooked the courtyard fountain. Kat and Murat’s chairs were draped with garlands and topped with gold “bride” and “groom” signs.

From the beginning, Kat knew she wanted gold flatware on the table, so gilded chargers and rimmed glasses were a no-brainer. Instead of standard place cards, each guest’s name was laser-cut and placed on a navy blue or pink napkin.

“We really wanted a plated dinner, and wanted our guests to choose entrées that sounded great to them. Food is a big deal in my family, so we offered short rib, grouper, and risotto, all followed by cake, of course!” Later in the evening, guests noshed on brisket and crab cake sliders and satisfied sweets cravings with an ice cream bar.

Speaking of cake, the four-tiered confection featured layers of hazelnut and passion fruit filling and a lush display of purple and hot pink roses, hydrangeas, and orchids.

“Murat and I were nervous about choosing a band over a DJ, but they were simply awesome,” says Kat. “We had a few interludes of Turkish pop and, as every Yalie knows, the night must end with ‘Livin’ on a Prayer’!”

Kat’s advice to couple’s is to enjoy the night as much as possible. “Don’t believe people when they say you won’t have fun because you’re too busy talking to guests. We goofed off in the photo booth, ate dinner, drank wine, danced, and we still remember every detail. Your wedding isn’t a performance, but instead an opportunity to have just as much fun as your guests!”

Can’t get enough of this beach wedding? Then watch another couple exchange vows in Florida in the video below.

Help! I'm Supposed to Be a Bridesmaid, but I'm Broke — What Should I Do?

Let’s face it: Being in a friend’s wedding is expensive. From the bridesmaid dress and accessories to bridal showers, bachelorette parties, and any travel in between (not to mention presents!), it can cost a whole lot to support your friend as a bridesmaid in her wedding. So if you know before the festivities have even begun that it’s out of your price range, can you still accept a role as bridesmaid? Our experts weigh in.

If you’ve been asked to be a bridesmaid but you already know you can’t afford everything that goes along with the title, begin by getting honest with the bride-to-be. Let her know how much you’d love to participate, but be upfront about whether you can only attend a few events (or none of them!) in order to still afford your bridesmaid dress, flight and hotel for her wedding. If you’re close enough to be a bridesmaid, hopefully she’ll be understanding and will let you off the hook for some of the pre-wedding responsibilities.

When it comes to your dress, look into buying a used version of the dress she’s selected. If she’s chosen one of Jenny Yoo or Monique Lhuillier’s designs in a popular color, you may even be able to rent it from a site like Vow to be Chic, saving you over 50% off the purchase price (and room in your closet).

Looking at travel options? Book strategically. If you can, fly on off days, and book early — but not too early. 45 days out is the sweet spot for getting a great price, and it’s worth it to look at both travel aggregator sites and the airlines’ direct websites. Get in touch with other bridesmaids to discuss things like sharing a rental car or splitting a hotel room. That double queen room is way cheaper when it’s split four ways!

And of course, there’s the gift. Again, talk to other bridesmaids or friends attending the wedding about going dutch on a present. If a few of you team up, you’ll be able to spend less while still giving a super-nice gift the couple will really enjoy.

Carolina Herrera is Celebrating 35 Years as One of Our Fave Designers. Here's Why She's Just as Fabulous as Ever

Carolina Herrera Interview

Photo: Getty Images

35 years after couturier Carolina Herrera took the industry by storm, BRIDES editor-in-chief Keija Minor sat down with the fashion doyenne for an in-depth interview on how she went from the girl-about-town to style setter to sought-after designer.

The year was 1981. Reagan was president, Raiders of the Lost Ark owned the box office, and Diana Ross and Lionel Richie were on top with “Endless Love.” It was also the year that Maria Carolina Josefina Pacanins y Nino Herrera presented her first prêt-à-porter collection at the Metropolitan Club in Manhattan.

With good friends Bianca Jagger, Andy Warhol, and Diana Vreeland in the front row and fashion giant Bill Blass (also a friend) weighing in on casting, she sent a series of evening gowns down the runway. While she had no formal training, just an impeccable vision — she learned how to sew by making clothes for her dolls in Caracas, Venezuela, where she grew up — the collection was an instant hit. Career-making department stores like Neiman Marcus and Bergdorf Goodman placed orders on the spot. “It was so glamorous, with a live band playing Cole Porter songs,” she says, now elegantly perched in a side chair in her sun-filled corner office in Manhattan’s Garment District.

She closed that inaugural show with a wedding dress, as if foreshadowing what was to come. But she wouldn’t create a full bridal line for a few more years, in part thanks to another fabulous friend, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis. When her daughter, Caroline, got engaged in 1986, the former first lady sent her to see Mrs. Herrera. “As mothers of the brides go, Jackie was the best there ever was,” she says. “She let Caroline decide exactly what she wanted and never got involved in any of the design decisions. Jackie didn’t see the dress until it was delivered to Hyannis Port for the wedding.” The gown seen round the world (it was on the cover of Life), which Mrs. Herrera had embellished with tiny shamrocks in honor of the Kennedys’ Irish heritage, catapulted the designer to bridal stardom. A year later, she launched her first full collection of wedding dresses with another glittering New York City runway show.

Three-plus decades later, Mrs. Herrera’s passion for bridal fashion is still apparent. “It’s full of romance and hope,” she says. “There’s a lot of fantasy there, but it’s a dream that becomes a reality.” Best known for classics with an updated twist, she has a great talent for merging old-world elegance with a modern sensibility, and she advises brides to do the same. “A wedding is a traditional ceremony that has been done for hundreds of years. Don’t treat it like you’re giving a birthday party,” she says. “Just because you follow tradition doesn’t mean it’s not modern.”

It’s contemporary because it’s happening right now, she insists. Then she warns about the overtly-sheer-gown trend: “And nakedness is definitely not going to make it contemporary; it’s going to make it ridiculous,” she says, laughing. But the designer isn’t as buttoned-up as you might expect. I point out the plunging neckline on one of my favorite gowns from her latest collection, and she suggests that when it comes to a wedding gown, a bride shouldn’t hide her body. However, she says, opt for “seductive over sexy.” With more than 1,000 gowns to her credit, and a perennial spot as one of the world’s top designers, we think she knows what she’s talking about.

Jinger Duggar is Engaged! See the Reality Star's Ring from Soccer Player Jeremy Vuolo

Time to get procreating! (Well, almost…) 19 Kids and Counting alum Jinger Duggar is officially engaged to Jeremy Vuolo after a short courtship (they’ve only been publicly dating for a month!) with the professional soccer player. Guess they couldn’t wait any longer for their first kiss, huh?

Now starring in the TLC spin-off Counting On, 22-year-old Jinger announced that she was being courted — the Duggar family-approved form of dating that consists of no sex, no kissing, chaperoned dates, and side-hugs only — by the pro athlete just last month, after meeting Vuolo in May 2015 and attending a mission trip together. “It was there that I really saw his heart and really admired his character,” Jinger explained to to People magazine at the time. Well, those must have been some seriously romantic chaperoned dates because the two are now engaged, with Jinger toting a simply stunning sparkler featuring a solitaire diamond on a silver band (see below).

In a video posted to TLC.com (above), the happy couple shared their celebratory news, mere moments after Vuolo got down on one knee. “We’re engaged!” exclaimed Duggar, holding hands with her sweetheart in front of the New York City skyline. “It’s hard to put into words how I feel,” Vuolo sweetly said. “I’m really just over the moon. I couldn’t be happier and I’m so grateful to God for giving me such an incredible woman. And she said yes!”

The bride-to-be seemed just as ecstatic with her new relationship status, stating, “I cannot believe that I’m engaged to the man of my dreams, the man that I’ve asked God for. God is so kind and I just cannot believe it!” Neither can we! Wasn’t it just yesterday we were fawning over big sister Jessa’s pretty-in-pink wedding dress?

And before you ask, yes, we’ll be able to watch all of the newly-engaged Duggar’s wedding plans unfold on the new episodes of Counting On. Phew! We were, uh, counting on it.

Omarosa Manigault is Engaged! See the Apprentice Alum and Donald Trump Campaign Staffer's Ring

Another political staffer and reality star is engaged! On the heels of Democratic National Convention staffers’ adorable engagement on Sunday, looks like the Republicans couldn’t pass up their chance to bask in the engagement-glow spotlight. Former Apprentice star and Donald Trump campaign staffer Omarosa Manigault got engaged to her boyfriend, Florida pastor Dr. John Allen Newman.

Manigault, who was promoted to Director of African-American Outreach for Donald Trump’s presidential campaign just last week, got engaged this weekend in front of Newman’s parishoners in Jacksonville, Florida. The reality star and her hubs-to-be have been dating for less than a year after meeting at Howard University, according to TMZ. Manigault, who is a pastor at Weller Street Baptist Church in Los Angeles, teaches an executive business course at the university.

And as any newly-engaged lady would do, she flashed her massive engagement ring (which appears to be a large diamond center stone with a thick silver-toned band) in an Instagram photo on July 25 while sporting a freshly-polished nude manicure. In the photo, the bride-to-be wore a embroidered peach dress with a tulle skirt underlay, and her hair in a loose blowout (channeling soon-to-be bridal shower vibes, no?). Either way, the celebrations are definitely in full effect.

Previously, the reality star was married to Aaron Stallworth, but the couple divorced in 2005, according to Us Weekly. In 2010, the reality star began dating Michael Clarke Duncan, most famous for his role in The Green Mile — who tragically passed away from a heart attack in 2012. Four years (…or should we say a presidential term) later, the reality star is engaged and walking down the aisle with her new beau.

Since the reality show alum is busy on the campaign trail, we’re sure that wedding planning will fall to the wayside — at least until November! Congrats, you two. See below for pics of the happy couple (and her stunning bling).

7 Wedding Tasks to Give to the Mother of the Groom

If you think you’ll be alone when it comes to getting some of the nitty gritty wedding planning done, think again! It may be likely that you have a squad of best friends who are more than willing to help. You may even be lucky enough to your own mother and the mother of the groom wanting to conquer your wedding to-do list with you. But, if you’re starting to field calls from the mother of the groom, asking you questions about what she can do to help, instead of telling her you’ll let her know when something comes up, prepare yourself now with tasks that she can do. That way, she won’t think that you don’t want her involved and she won’t start doing wedding tasks on her own that you didn’t want her to do at all. To get you started, here is a list of seven duties you can pass along to the mother of the groom.

1. Welcome Bags

You’ll want someone to take on the task of getting welcome bags put together for out of town guests. You can coordinate a theme with her and even let her know the kinds of items you’d like in the bags. Then, as you’re scrambling to do things the last few weeks before the wedding, your mother-in-law-to-be will have the guests’ bags under control.

2. Help With the Seating Chart

This task is super important to get the MOG on board to help out with, especially if she’s inviting a lot of her friends and family members to the wedding. She can provide you with the insight you need to make sure guests are sitting where they’ll feel the most comfortable.

3. Co-Plan the Bridal Shower
Your bridal party will be a special pre-wedding celebration for you and all your girls. If your Maid of Honor or your mother want to plan this, ask if the mother of the groom can be a co-planner too.

4. Help Get RSVPs
Having trouble getting the grooms side of the family to send in their RSVP cards? Sometimes all it takes to know if a guest is coming or not is a quick phone call or text message — which is easy when it comes directly from the mother of the groom.

5. Arrange Transportation
It’s likely this task may fall at the bottom of your list — or even worse, slip your mind. But of course, you’ll need a way to get to the wedding venue and back. The last thing you’ll want to do is ask your guests to call cabs at the end of the reception. Ask the MOG to help set this up once you know logistics for your venue and hotel.

6. Lend a Hand With the Registry
If the MOG has good taste or knows how to decorate well, get her involved with picking out the items you should register for. Besides it checking off something major on your to-do list, it will make her feel like she has an instrumental part in helping you start your lives together.

7. Come With You for a Dress Fitting
It’ll mean the world to your future mother-in-law if you invite her to one of your dress fittings. If you’re nervous to have a lot of people see you in your dress beforehand, make the fitting social media- and picture-free.

The Best and Worst Things About Being Married, According to Real Couples

Like everything else, marriage has its highs and its lows. Here, several women and men reveal what they love most about being married, and what they’d happily leave behind.

The Best Things About Being Married …

“The best thing about being married is knowing I will get through everything with someone’s love and support, and I will be able to provide that to him as well. We are best friends and have a great respect for one another.” — Amanda

“The best thing about being married is having someone to share things — good and bad. If I experience something funny or irks me, I can’t wait to tell my husband so that we can laugh together or he can commiserate with me about it.” — Carol

“The best part about being married is being a part of an ultimate partnership, in which each party is equally responsible for the success or failure of the venture. There are no hidden agendas, and the size of the financial contribution of one does not grant him or her more or less power — it just enhances the partnership’s available resources.” — Chantay

“The best thing about being married is that my husband is always in my corner. If I’m overwhelmed, he calms me down. If I’m sad, he cheers me up. If he’s upset, I comfort him. He’ll come home with unexpected little presents and make a so-so afternoon into a great one.” — Jennifer

“The best thing about being married is knowing that no matter what, I have someone to face life with. We went through some significant struggles immediately after we got married. But because we are committed to our marriage and to each other, we both know that we will be there for each other. I know that even if I’m wrong, he will support me, and even if he’s wrong, I will support him.” — Elaine

“Being able to share the triumphs and failures of life with someone who accepts you as you are. My spouse encourages me to be my best and consoles me when I fall short. She is there during the sunny days and shelters me in the storms.” — Michael

The Worst Things About Being Married …

“The worst thing about marriage is when you’re expected to do things — especially things you don’t want to. This is a blanket statement for cooking, cleaning, and, of course, entertaining in-laws.” — Saideh

“The worst thing about being married is the battle against the giant of selfishness — the attempt to merge two different and evolving personalities and mindsets in a win-win way. Compromise doesn’t always work, because it can leave both partners frustrated.” — Chantay

“The worst thing about being married is that we are both very introverted and value our alone time. It’s hard to get time to ourselves now — mainly because we also value our time together. So, we try to make sure we each pursue our individual interests.” — Jennifer

“The worst thing about being married is accepting that my husband isn’t perfect. Recognizing his imperfections is frustrating. And when his mistakes or traits anger me, it can be very depressing to think that I’m going to be dealing with this problem for the rest of my life.” — Elaine
