Even though celebrity workout routines aren’t always the most realistic ways for us ~normal people~ to fit exercise into our lives, there’s nothing wrong with being a little curious about what they do to get and stay fit. Lucky for us, celebs sometimes give the world a sneak peek into their routines through Instagrams and interviews, which can serve as inspiration to find workouts you love, too.
Of course, just like everyone else, celebrities can have more than one favorite workout — mixing it up helps you avoid boredom as well as fitness plateaus. But if you’re curious about some of their go-tos, here’s how your favorite celebrities get their sweat on.
1. Lea Michele’s a SoulCycle Devotee.
Lea Michele is endlessly ‘gramming her love for SoulCycle, a pumped-up, beat-driven indoor cycling class that’s built a seriously cult following (Demi Lovato is a big fan, too — she even took a SoulCycle bike on tour with her). “Rise and grind! @soulcycle,” Michele recently captioned a sweaty post-workout snap. Want to pump up your own cycling workout? Here’s how to turn a stationary bike into a fat-burning machine.
2. Carrie Underwood swears by four-minute Tabata bursts.
Carrie Underwood’s got some pretty killer workouts in her arsenal, but one of her go-to exercise methods is Tabata, an interval workout that involves 20 seconds of hard work and 10 seconds of rest for four minutes. “I’m in love with it! It’s hard, but it really works,” she told Shape. “I choose seven different exercises, like squats, lunges, or push-ups, and do eight rounds of each…It really revs up my metabolism. When I’m done, I can handle anything.” Here’s how to create your own Tabata workout.
3. Jennifer Aniston climbs her way to fit at Rise Nation.
When she’s not doing her trifecta workout of 15 minutes on the treadmill, 15 minutes on the bike, and 15 minutes on the elliptical, you can find Jennifer Aniston on a VersaClimber, which is a killer cardio machine that mimics a ladder-like climbing motion. The actor told Well+Good, “In Los Angeles, I work out at Rise Nation, which is a fitness climbing cardio class — it’s such a great workout!” Maybe this is what was missing during my feeble attempt to live like Jen.
4. Iskra Lawrence is all about training with bodyweight moves and heavy weights.
Iskra Lawrence showed off these insane box jumps on Instagram back in May, but that’s not all the model does during her workout routine. “I love the feeling and the energy that I get from working out,” she told ELLE.com. “I do lots of high intensity training like skipping and box jumps. I love heavy weights, I love lunges. I love legwork — squats and things like that.”
5. Khloe Kardashian loves the stairs to sculpt her strong glutes.
If her Instagram is any indication, Khloe Kardashian (who works out with Gunnar Peterson) is seriously on that fitness grind (and it shows). One of her favorite things to do? The good ol’ stairs. “The stairs are everything for your lower body, and you’re sweating, it’s a great cardio workout,” Kardashian said in a video on her app. “I like to do the stairs at the gym where the stairs are rotating, not an actual stair master. The stairs are rotating and if you stop you’re just going to fall off that bad boy. So that one is a beast. That is so good for your butt, thighs, squat, everything.” Inspired to take the stairs yet?

6. Lena Dunham loves The Tracy Anderson Method.
In this inspiring Instagram post about how working out has helped her with her anxiety, Lena Dunham thanked Tracy Anderson for “showing her the light.” The boutique fitness studio (and the trainer behind it) has a huge celebrity following — Gwyneth Paltrow is also a devotee of the dance-inspired cardio and strength workout.
7. Ashley Graham breaks a serious sweat with kickboxing.
Ashley Graham told Stylecaster that her favorite workout of the moment is kickboxing, but she’s been known to mix it up with her workout routine — her Instagram is full of positive fitness inspo that inspires you to get #UpNOut. She’s not the only celeb who keeps boxing in the mix, though — Gina Rodriguez is also a big fan (her dad was actually a boxing referee).
8. Jenna Dewan-Tatum channels her Step Up days with dance cardio.
Jenna Dewan-Tatum is the perfect example of doing workouts you find fun. In 2013, she told SELF that she relied on dance cardio to get back into fitness after giving birth. “I do a 35-minute hip-hop workout my trainer gave me,” she said. “Chan laughs because he walks in on me doing my routine to Lil Wayne in the living room. He hasn’t jumped in yet, but I’m going to have to work on that!” If her moves during her epic Lip Sync Battle against her husband are any indication, she’s kept it up.

9. Ellie Goulding is a big Barry’s Bootcamp fan.
Ellie Goulding is a certified fitness buff in a lot of ways, but she’s an especially big fan of Barry’s Bootcamp, a killer treadmill-and-strength combo workout that leaves you sweating buckets (seriously, this workout is insane). The singer even led her own Barry’s sweat sesh in Miami Beach back in January — and I’m willing to bet it was a tough one. Anything could happen, amiright?
10. Julianne Hough sweats it out at Body By Simone.
Julianne Hough’s fitness routine is super balanced and fun, and while she loves to mix it up, she told SELF that the dance-based workout Body By Simone is one of her favorites (along with CorePower Yoga and hiking with her adorable dogs). “”[Working out] is something for myself,” Hough told SELF. “I think about it that way, rather than ‘I have to get skinny’ or ‘I have to get fit.’ I think of it as my personal time to make myself feel good.”
11. Gisele Büendchen is a serious yogi.
Tons of celebs swear by yoga, and among them is one Gisele Büendchen. Her Instagram-worthy poses are serious #yogagoals. Yoga can be a seriously sculpting workout — here’s a yoga flow sequence for stronger abs (feel free to channel your inner Gisele while you do it).
12. Mindy Kaling has been known to pop up at Pop Physique, an LA-based barre workout.
“If I could do one workout for the rest of my life, it would be a two to three mile run followed by a Pop Physique class…Pop makes me feel flexible and strong. It is super hard and uses many ballet moves,” Kaling told The Chalkboard Mag in 2014. “I always pretend I’m Natalie Portman in Black Swan while doing it.” That’s why we love ya, Kaling.
