Her Odd Mom Out character may have been renewing her vows in the recent season 2 finale, but it was the first time down the aisle for actress Abby Elliott who wed writer Billy Kennedy on Saturday. And the classic church wedding of the new Mr. and Mrs. Kennedy sounds like the most picture-perfect Labor Day weekend party we could dream of.
The House of Cards writer and the former Saturday Night Live cast member met while on the set of the film Sex Ed. “We shot it in Tampa and we went to a strip club that night,” Elliott remembered on a recent episode of Watch What Happens Live. “The Dollhouse is where we fell in love. He bought me a ton of lap dances, but, like didn’t talk to me.” That’s definitely not a ‘how they met’ story you hear everyday!
This weekend, the now-newlyweds headed to the New England church of Elliott’s childhood to tie the knot, followed by a reception at her parents’ home. “We’re both Catholic, so we’re going to be having a Catholic ceremony in a church,” Elliott told The Knot ahead of the big day. “The same church I had my first communion at,” she said.
Come the big day, Elliott slipped into a lace and tulle Leanne Marshall wedding dress for her walk down the aisle, accessorized with a red lip and a fresh organic bouquet. Meanwhile, the groom donned a custom blue linen suit, according to People magazine. For a super sweet touch, Elliott’s new wedding ring previously belonged to Kennedy’s grandmother.
The couple’s red, blue, and cream-hued tented reception also included familial touches, with the calligraphy on the table numbers and menus handwritten by Elliott’s uncle and sister. And the sweetest touch of all was their classic multi-tiered wedding cake, adorned with lush sugar flowers. Yum!
This really is the happiest Labor Day weekend we could imagine!
