It looks like kissing before marriage isn’t necessarily a bad thing in Duggar-World! After tying the knot last September, 19 Kids and Counting star Amy (Duggar) King and husband Dillon King can now officially say they have the first year of marriage under their belts. And their thoughts on life as newlyweds? It’s better than they even imagined.
“We love being with one another and waking up every morning beside each other,” Dillon, shared with People about being married to the reality star. And like any healthy married couple, if a disagreement arises, they handle it. “If we have an issue, we settle it before bedtime,” he explained. But that doesn’t really seem to be a common occurrence, as the two share their chores pretty easily. “I love to cook and Amy cleans or vice versa. Amy handles the laundry, but I take out the trash.” Divide and conquer — the secret to a happy marriage.
Amy had similar sentiments about their lives together. “We love our Sundays,” she shared with People. “After church we go for Mexican food and mimosas and just sit there and talk about what we learned. Even on our honeymoon in Cancun, we woke up at 6 a.m. and did a Bible study right there on the beach. It was one of my favorite moments.” The two both noted that they don’t miss single life at all.
To show her excitement about reaching the milestone, the former bride took to her Instagram to wish her hubs a happy one-year anni, captioning an old wedding photo, “Happy 1 year baby!! It feels like yesterday I was walking down the aisle towards you! I loved everything about our special day! Especially when we blew out the unity candle.. ha! This year has been just a tad on the crazy side but I love doing life with you! You are the best husband and my best friend. You will forever be my always baby love and my favorite adventure. 09-06-15.” Dillon posted a matching snap, sharing a photo of the pair as newlyweds on their big day with an equally adorable and heartfelt caption (but leaving out the unity candle snafu).
The Duggar/King duo got married in September of 2015 in a beautiful country-chic, rose gold-themed wedding ceremony in Arkansas — in front of 400 of their closest friends and family. And while she is close with her 19 cousins, Amy was a bit of a rebel in the love department; her beliefs differ from that of her more conservative relatives when it comes to dating. In fact, the lifestyle that led her to her married-lady status was a bit controversial in their eyes. Instead of supervised courtship dates, Amy was a serial dater pre-Dillon, sharing that she has dated several men (scandalous). “I can at least count six guys I’ve dated. I used to date bodybuilder types. But they just turned out to be one dud after another.” Then along came Dillon — and the rest were history!

Although Amy revealed that neither her nor her now-husband were virgins when they met, they decided to wait until they were married to go any further. “That was our decision,” she confirmed. “We had fun, but we didn’t stay over and we decided early on not to move in together. There were boundaries. A thin line of boundaries.”
No matter who you feel about their premarital situation, the happily-married couple continues to bask in that newlywed glow. “Our first year has been really fun. Our goals for next year are to travel the world and fall further in love with each other! Who knows? There might even be some baby talk.” It definitely sounds like year two will have some exciting things coming down the pike…congrats on the milestone, lovebirds!
