Unlike the wedding, sometimes honeymoons don’t exactly go off without a hitch. Someone either gets eaten up by bugs, or worse, gets a bad stomach bug. The all-inclusive hotel you book isn’t all it’s cracked up to be or the weather puts a major damper on all your planned activities. Hey, when it rains, it pours, right? That’s not to say you can’t make lemonade out of lemons though and still enjoy yourselves. We asked real brides to share their most epic honeymoon fails, which we can all laugh about after the fact.

Hurricane Season
“We booked our tropical honeymoon smack dab in the middle of hurricane season, not thinking that we’d actually get caught up in the middle of one. Well, we did! The island had to be evacuated and we had to cut our honeymoon short several days early. So yeah, that was fun. Fortunately, everyone was safe and we made up for it with a cruise over the holidays.” — Kendall

Food Poisoning
“We got food poisoning on the fifth day of our honeymoon and both woke up in the middle of the night vomiting our guts out. And we only had one bathroom to get sick in! Luckily it was the next to last day of our trip and only lasted 24 hours so we got to enjoy the final day in paradise.” — Michelle </em

Period Problems
“I was planning on doing the whole skip the placebo pills and go straight to a new pack of birth control for our honeymoon, but I totally forgot and ended up being on my period most of the time. Then when it finally ended I came down with a bad cold for the rest of the trip. Talk about an epic fail. My poor husband!” — Mallory </em

Rough Waters
“I got tossed around in the Hawaiian surf and wound up with a dislocated shoulder and blood pouring from scratches on the left side of my body. Needless to say, we spent the last day of our honeymoon in the emergency room. Fun times!” — Alex </em

Hotel From Hell
“Literally everything that could go wrong with our hotel did! The level above us was undergoing construction, which was super loud and woke us up early practically every morning. Then our showerhead kept not working while our toilet was continually running even after they “fixed it” too. Oh, and to top it off, we got stuck next to a couple that would either fight or have sex loudly every night. Um, gross! Then of course the last few days of our trip it rained non-stop and almost flooded the room due to water coming in under the doors. Fortunately, we did have several good days in between all the madness and got some money back thanks to our hotel horror.” — Cassie </em

What’s In A Name?
“I guess it could have been a lot worse, but our travel agent accidently booked all of our hotels and activities under my maiden name so the entire time people kept calling us Mr. and Mrs. [my last name]. Needless to say, my husband was none too pleased since I had just taken his last name and it’s special to hear that new name said out loud on the honeymoon. We were able to laugh it off though.” — Leesa </em

The Missing Ring
“My husband lost his ring on the first day of our honeymoon! We both assumed it was somewhere in the middle of the ocean and it kind of put a damper on those first few days. On the last day I noticed something shiny caught in the shower drain after bending down to get my hair tie that I had dropped. Turns out, it was his wedding ring and we were able to retrieve it. So at least my story has a happy ending!” — Shadhi </em
