8 Things You Should Do If You Just Can't Fall Asleep

woman can not sleep

Photo: Getty Images

Some nights you hit the sheets, and you just know your snooze will be lackluster. Maybe you’re nervous about your interview tomorrow or are still simmering about the unresolved argument you had with your significant other. Or maybe, you stayed up a little too late watching Supernatural reruns on Netflix.

But other nights, the reason you’re tossing and turning until 1 a.m. isn’t so clear. You woke up, went to work or school, worked up a sweat in class, came home, and only had one glass of vino (okay, maybe two). With a few mild differences here and there, it was like any other day. So why the struggle with sleep on this particular night?

“The biggest issue is that we don’t have a good separation between day and night anymore. We live in a 24/7 society, with work or electronics seeping into our home life at night,” says Shelby Harris, Psy.D., director of Behavioral Sleep Medicine at the Sleep-Wake Disorders Center, Montefiore Medical Center. “Sleep is thought of being an on/off switch, but sadly, it doesn’t work that way.”

What’s worse, Dr. Harris says, a lack of sleep doesn’t just result in morning grogginess or baggy eyes — it can dramatically affect your eating habits and overall health.

“When we sleep less, we have an increase in ghrelin, the hormone that makes us hungry, and a decrease in leptin, which tells us we’re full. As a result, we eat more because we don’t have a strong signal to stop,” she says. “In addition, sub-par sleep can lead to increased work errors, poor concentration and attention, increased absenteeism, poor motor skills, worse memory, increased stress and depression/anxiety.”

But there is some good news, sleeping beauties: Getting a good night’s sleep is 100 percent attainable with the right preparation. Here, Dr. Harris lists eight surefire tips for ensuring the time between hitting the sheets and getting shut-eye is as minimal as possible.

Skip those dated wives tales
Although it’s not entirely clear where these old wives’ tales originated (or counting sheep, for that matter), Dr. Harris says that liquids of any kind should be avoided once you hit the bed. “Have a tiny sip of water to get any medication down, but that’s it.”

Do your best to get up at a decent hour on the weekends
While you may look forward to snoozing past noon on the weekends, according to Dr. Harris, it’s also a quick way to disrupt your sleep schedule for the week. “Sleeping in on the weekends can make it hard to adjust to a regular, earlier bedtime on Sunday evening,” she explains. “You’re essentially creating jet lag in your body Friday through Sunday morning.”

Trouble getting motivated in the weekend’s wee hours? Try picking an early Saturday or Sunday workout class to attend with a friend (so you’ll have no excuse to bail).

Keep your bed for sleep and, er, maybe one other thing

“Use the bed only for sleep and sex,” says Dr. Harris. “Don’t lay in your bed if you’re not sleeping.” Of course, if you’re in a tiny studio or apartment and lacking in the furniture department, cozying up on a big, comfy couch before bed isn’t really an option. Consider investing in a space-efficient (but super plush) chair like a papasan or finding a nearby coffee shop to wind down at before coming home and hitting the sheets.

Make sure to exercise, but within a certain timeframe
Although it might be tempting to squeeze in a late-night sweat sesh after you’ve completed your chores for the day, Dr. Harris says it’s best to resist if you want a good night’s snooze. She recommends avoiding the gym within three hours of bed.

Of course, that doesn’t mean you still shouldn’t try to fit in a workout elsewhere. “Even 20 minutes of exercise four to six hours before bedtime can help you fall asleep faster.”

Put the phone down
“Most electronics emit blue light, which suppresses melatonin before bedtime,” explains Dr. Harris. “Melatonin is the ‘hormone of darkness’ and comes out in the evening to help induce sleepiness. When we are exposed to blue light within one to two hours before bedtime, we suppress melatonin and it becomes more difficult to fall asleep.”

Although you can still listen to music or audio books through your smartphone, Harris recommends turning the device over to ensure you’re not directly facing the snooze-killing blue light.

Stop checking your email
If you know you’re going to have a big day at work tomorrow, it can be tempting to start hacking away at emails before bed. But according to Dr. Harris, this is one of the biggest sleep offenders of all. “Prioritize! Not everything needs to get done before bed,” she stresses. “We’re often on our computers, phones and tablets just before bed, checking work emails and social media. This makes it difficult for our brains to wind down and relax.”

Resist the nap temptation
As heartbreaking as this piece of sleep advice sounds, according to Dr. Harris, it’s crucial if you’re finding yourself with too much energy in the late hours. “Avoid naps, especially if you have trouble sleeping,” she says. “Naps steal sleep from the night.”

Don’t force it
Just like that ill-fitting H&M dress that looked so much better on the hanger, when it comes to falling asleep at night, the best piece of advice is ultimately the simplest: Don’t force it.

“Don’t lay in bed if you can’t sleep,” says Dr. Harris. “Instead, get up after approximately 20 minutes (don’t watch the clock, just estimate) and do something quiet, calm and relaxing in dim light until you’re sleepy. Don’t try to force sleep to happen. The more you worry about it, the worse it will get.”

Creative Gift Ideas for Co-Ed Wedding Showers

Blueprint Registry Tips for a Co-ed Wedding Shower

Photo: Courtesy of Blueprint Registry

Theoretically, wedding gifts are not gender-specific. Wedding registries are supposed to be filled with things the new couple needs to complete their household, hence the traditional presents, like dishes, blenders (and other small kitchen appliances), linens, and cutlery. Gifts for bridal showers, on the other hand, tend to be more feminine as they’re for the bride, specifically.

But lately, traditional bridal showers are being replaced with co-ed wedding showers that include both the bride and groom, as well as a co-ed contingent of guests. Why the shift? Probably because grooms are far more involved in the wedding planning than they have ever been in the past, and they want to be a part of the pre-wedding festivities. And because married couples like to give showers for their engaged-couple friends together.

Co-ed showers are usually in the evening, and typically have a lot more cocktail-ing than at a bridal shower. And because the focus is on the bride AND the groom, a little more creativity is required when selecting gifts. Instead of going straight off the registry, or handing the couple a gift card, consider being more creative.

Bar and Entertainment Accessories
These are always a hit for a co-ed shower. It’s an opportunity give brides and grooms higher-end items than they probably wouldn’t buy for themselves. I absolutely love the cutting boards, fancy muddlers, and serving trays from The Wooden Palate. Their coasters made from the old Atlantic City Boardwalk are gorgeous. You can personalize barware for the couple, with monograms on glasses and cocktail napkins. Or get even more creative with monogrammed whiskey rocks that display their wedding date from The Ultimate Man Shop.

Outdoor Activity Kits
These are the modern take on giving the traditional picnic basket as a gift. Start with a compact, but high-end, cooler that has slots for wine bottles, in addition to room for food and other beverages. Bed, Bath & Beyond has a selection of options for every budget and style. Pockets for utensils and paper products are a plus, and giving the gift stuffed full of things to use makes it twice as nice. If it comes with picnic accessories, fill the empty spaces with wine, crackers, and other non-perishable gourmet items.

For a couple who likes the beach, a wheeled cart designed to hold their beach chairs, cooler, umbrella, and beach bags is a huge hit. Personalize it with some luxurious monogrammed beach towels from Advantage Bridal, sporting the soon-to-be-married couple’s new initials.

Emergency Preparations
For the couple who has everything, HIS and HERS “go-bags” or “bug out” bags are a new thing. Everybody is supposed to have a “go-bag” packed and ready to take out the door in case you have to evacuate. Following guidance from a reputable source such as The Survivalist Blog, fill up color-coded backpacks with some of the essentials. Create a checklist of what-all should be in each bag, mark what you’ve provided, and put the list in a card with a note of explanation so the couple can complete it themselves.

She Said Oui!: How to Plan a Pre-Wedding Paris Getaway

Pre-Wedding Paris Getaway

Imagine being whisked away to Paris to shop for your wedding gown, work on a custom bauble with a jewelry creéateur, and sip aperitifs with top-of-the-line designers. Yes, it’s every woman’s fantasy, but it’s also a reality when you book a “She Said Oui” getaway with custom luxury travel and lifestyle experience expert Chloe Johnston.

Many brides-to-be envision gathering their girls to guzzle champagne and try on dresses. This is that very experience, but in a much more romantic milieu and with some elevated aspects as well. Instead of traipsing through your hometown’s wedding salons, you’ll be escorted around the City of Light to find the perfect gown (or bridesmaid or mother of the bride or groom dresses), consult with a Parisian wedding planner, and scope out shoes, headpieces, and other big-day embellishments. Add wine tasting, lingerie browsing, and choosing your own signature scent to the itinerary and you’ll start to think you’re the star of some lavish wedding show.

“The bride will be escorted throughout Paris by her own private expert with time to relax in between and digest options with some special little treats,” Johnston says. The idea is to take some time to enjoy some pre-wedding festivities overseas with your closest friends and family and to de-stress as much as possible. Johnston makes spa excursions, rooftop dinners, and wine and chocolate samplings part of the experience, while finding that happy medium between satisfying your wanderlust and keeping you relaxed.

It all starts with a personal consultation with Johnston so she can build a custom experience to fit your preferences. Expect to talk about how you envision your wedding day, what your personal style is, where you typically shop, what your dream dress looks like, your style icons, and also your budget. From that conversation, Johnston will curate a list of top designers — whether that means modern boutiques or vintage dress shops — and make the necessary appointments. You’ll want to give yourself about a year before the wedding to take the trip, bring a dress home, arrange for fittings, and finalize the details. Luckily, Paris is beautiful at all times of the year.

If you already have your dress, consider yourself lucky and focus the trip on finding those one-of-a-kind shoes or headpiece, or simply have your gown and accessories specially embellished by a local expert. Then, spend the rest of the time kicking back and enjoying the company of your closest gals. In fact, Johnston recommends keeping the group fairly small to make sure the focus remains on the bride, and because many of the shops in Paris are smaller and more intimate.

So how much will a dream escape like this sets you back? Johnston says it all depends upon how long you stay, the time of year, and the number of people involved. The experience can start at $3,000 and go up from there if you’re including airfare, hotel, meals, experiences, and guides. Add to that the cost of the dress and customization.
It may not be for every bride, but for those who can swing it, there’s perhaps no better way to get away before your big day.

Dianna Agron Was a Bridesmaid This Weekend and Looked Totally Gorgeous

Every bridesmaid tries to look chic, sophisticated, and effortless on their friend’s wedding day (without upstaging the bride, of course), but it can be a hard style to pull off. Dianna Agron nailed the woke-up-like-this look as a bridesmaid at her friend’s wedding this weekend, and it is giving us some serious style-envy. (Seriously, you have to see the pictures!)

A few celebrity weddings went down over the weekend, but this wedding is the only one where we were paying more attention to a bridesmaid than to the bride. Famous chef and food stylist (and friend to the former Glee star) Megan Mitchell walked down the aisle wearing a gorgeous white dress with flower detailing, a champaign ribbon belt, and a pretty fierce cat eye to go along with it, but we absolutely could not take our eyes off of Agron’s flawless bridesmaid look.

Agron looked like the human embodiment of summer style with her $400 Anne Dress from Reformation. She wore the dress in the color flesh, a combination of pink, gold, and a bit of taupe, which was a perfect complement to her skin tone. The dress was flowing and simple, with a small tie in the front to synch the waist and a small, ruffled flower on the back. She wore her hair down in loose, beachy curls with flower pinned in her hair, and her subtle smokey eye and pink lip paired perfectly her dress, creating a look that gave a nod to the all nude everything look that has been so popular with celebrities recently. (You can see the pictures below.)

Agron confirmed her own engagement in February of this year to Mumford & Sons banjoist Winston Marshall. They officially announced that they were dating in July of last year after seen strolling the streets of Paris hand-in-hand, and are rumored to have gotten engaged during the winter holidays that same year. The world first saw Agron’s stunning engagement ring, a huge round diamond set in a yellow-gold band, when she sat front row for Erdem’s London Fashion Week runway show in February.

The pair has been silent on wedding details (we know virtually nothing yet), but after seeing how she styled herself for Mitchell’s wedding this weekend, we can’t wait to see what her bridal style will be!

Always so honored to be by your side @chefmeganmitch. I love you. Yesterday was perfect.

It Was All About Good Food and Drinks at This Outdoor Wedding in Wyoming

Katie Markstein and John Mardikian have one very popular dating app to thank for their introduction in October of 2013: Tinder! “After three months of dating, we were so in love and counting down the days until we thought it was okay for us to get engaged,” says Katie. That day came just eight months later in June of 2014, when John popped the question on Solana Beach in San Diego, California, where the bride grew up.

As the couple started planning their August 1, 2015, wedding, they were sure of two things: One, the party would be held at the bride’s family’s vacation home in Wilson, Wyoming, and two, it would involve really good food. “I’m a pastry chef, my family is in the beer business, and John and I own a restaurant and beer garden in Oakland, where we live,” Katie says. “Everyone expected it!” The duo tapped Jenna Lam Events to help bring their vision of an elegant dinner party in the Tetons to life, and the final result was nothing short of spectacular. Read on to see how they pulled off a thoughtful, lush, and elegant bash in the wild, as photographed by Carrie Patterson Photography.

“I’d always dreamed of getting married on our meadow in Wyoming,” the bride says. “John had not even been there yet when I told him I wanted to get married out there, but he blindly agreed and instantly fell in love with it.” As it turned out, the bride’s parent’s were secretly hoping Katie and John would chose the site of so many family vacations as the place where they would say “I do.”

The bride found she loved working on her invitation suite, and even admits it was one of her favorite details to research. With the help of Jill from PS Paper, the couple invited 220 guests to their celebration with a stationery suite that included a watercolor rendering of a photograph of the family property that had been taken from a helicopter. “It felt like she always understood what I was going for and then made my ideas so much better,” says Katie.

Guests got a warm welcome thanks to thoughtful pre-wedding favors. Since nearly everyone was flying into the area, Katie and John made sure to spoil their family and friends with lots of goodies they could use on the trip. Plus, the baker bride wanted to offer everyone a home-baked treat, so she whipped up 200 mini almond bundt cakes and 400 salted-butter shortbread cookies, which served as the anchor to each gift box. The couple included other treats like their favorite jerky from Sonoma, California, a pre-bottled cocktail, a pocketknife, and a “Field Guide” that was filled with useful information for the weekend.

Katie wore a beautiful Christos Costarellos lace wedding dress that she purchased at Mark Ingram Bridal Atelier. The ornate fabric was balanced with a sleek silhouette, perfect for their elevated bash in the woods.

Her lush, textural bouquet was comprised of dahlias, garden roses, scabiosa, anemones, blushing bride protea, dusty miller, olive branch, and eucalyptus.

Katie’s seven bridesmaids wore silk dresses in either a dove or stone color and carried seasonal bouquets of blush flowers, including café au lait dahlias, garden roses, and greenery.

John’s groomsmen matched the formality of his Lanvin suit with similar dark-hued attire.

The couple’s three adorable flower girls, Gigi, Izzy, and Emma, totally stole the show.

“The ranch was truly a blank canvas for us to run wild with,” says the bride. “We knew we wanted to showcase some of the property’s features, like the views of Grand Teton, the river running along the edge of our land, and the fishing pond.” So they held the ceremony in the backyard of the family’s home, overlooking Fish Creek, a tributary of the Snake River. Then, guests would move to a sailcloth tent in a beautiful meadow about 300 yards away.

Cross-back chairs faced the flowing water and guests passed by two huge arrangements of natural-colored blooms on their way to their seats. The bride’s father (wearing an obligatory cowboy hat!) walked her down the aisle while a string quartet performed his favorite song, “God Only Knows” by the Beach Boys. Other pre-wedding musical selections included Bruce Springsteen’s hits “Born to Run” and “Thunder Road.” “It was Jenna’s idea to have the quartet play instrumental versions of some of our favorite music,” Katie says.

Instead of writing their own vows, the bride and groom let their officiant personalize the ceremony with a food-related story, a nod to the couple’s professions in the food business.

After the ceremony, guests walked along the river towards cocktail hour, which was held in a sectioned off area of the nearby meadow that had views of the Tetons, but wasn’t quite near enough to see the reception tent. To make sure the party started off strong, the couple placed a station with mini Bud Light bottles midway on the path, encouraging guests to “hydrate” on their walk. Once they arrived in the meadow, waiters on hand served trays of specialty cocktails.

In addition to a standard bar, Katie and John also brought in a vintage airstream from Camper Cocktails. Guests also ordered their favorites from a “Mule Bar,” where ginger beer and lime could be customized with vodka, rum, bourbon, or tequila.

As everyone enjoyed cocktails and snacks, a local bluegrass band provided the tunes.

Seating assignments were displayed on a calligraphed board. Above each name, friends and family found a mini copper mug with their table number. On their way to their seats, they had the opportunity to fill it up with a Moscow Mule shot. Talk about a fun cocktail hour!

Inside the sailcloth tent, tables were decorated with custom gray linens with a navy border on the bottom edge. Garlands of eucalyptus were studded with garden roses and dahlias, and dripped off of the tables onto the grassy floor. Tables were marked with large copper mugs.

Because they wanted an elegant feel for their outdoor party, Katie and John chose blue and white terra-cotta chargers for their table settings. Each guest found their seat thanks to a calligraphed dinner menu, which outlined the sit-down meal to come.

After dinner, the party moved into a second tent for dancing. “There was also a foyer with seating between the dance tent and the dinner tent, where people could sit under the stars, smoke a cigar, and where we later served BBQ late night snacks,” the bride says.

The couple chose not to have a decorated wedding cake on display. “I wanted to bake my own cake, but since our guest list was on the larger side, I would have needed to make at least four tiers, and wouldn’t have been able to do that without a commercial kitchen,” says Katie. “I ultimately decided to outsource that project, which was a tough decision. Jackson Cake Company made the most delicious cakes, but we just served sheet cake since it would have broken my heart to have a decorative cake on display that wasn’t made by me.”

The 3 Must-Know Tips for Hosting a Multi-Room Wedding Reception

Finding the perfect wedding venue can be a challenge. From fitting your theme and vibe to accommodating your guest list to working with your budget, there is a seemingly never-ending list of criteria to meet! If you’re inviting a crowd, or are hoping to break your wedding up into a series of moments that takes guests through a few different spaces, you may find yourself with a wedding reception that spans multiple rooms. This can end up working in your favor, giving you more flexibility and creating a unique experience for your guests, but there are still a few key tips to keep in mind. Here are the three things you should know if you’re having a multi-room reception.

When Will They Move?
When you’re working on your timeline with your planner or venue manager, set a specific time to move guests — and then make it 10 minutes earlier. If the cocktail hour and reception spaces are separated by doors or a hallway, it will take guests a little longer to catch on that you need them to sit down because they won’t easily be able to see that other guests have found their seats. Some buffer time will allow the staff to gently encourage guests to head toward their tables instead of trying to herd them all at once. Setting a time will also let your staff know when they need the tables to be set and when the bartender can head over to wine service.

Where’s the Bar?
Speaking of bartenders, if your reception room isn’t quite big enough for your bar and your cake, you may want to leave the bar at cocktail hour open throughout the night so guests can get drinks once the dancing starts. If they can’t see the bar from their seats, though, they might assume it is closed. Have your band or DJ remind everyone (after wine service is over and once dancing has begun) that the bar is open and serving drinks, and have servers who are pouring wine also mention to the table that guests can get beer or cocktails in the next room.

Where Will People Sit?
Are you having dinner in one space and dancing in another? Make sure you set up a few seating areas around the dance floor where guests can rest their feet and still feel like they’re a part of the party. Lounge furniture is a great option, but consider also having one or two regular tables (with linens matching the dinner tables) where a group can sit with a slice of cake and Grandma doesn’t have to eat out of her lap.

Why Nick Cannon Will 'Never' Get Married Again

Nick Cannon Says He is Never Getting Married Again

Photo: Getty Images

Don’t get us wrong: We love watching Mariah Carey and James Packer get wedding day ready and oogling over Carey’s megawatt 35-carat engagement ring, but we still get a little nostalgic for the quintessential early oughts coupling between the pop diva and Nick Cannon. Carey and Cannon said “I do” on the Bahamian sand in 2008, before expanding their family with their addition of their adorable little twins. The pair ultimately split in 2014, but if that supersized sparkler on her finger is any indication, Carey is still a total romantic at heart. But what about Cannon? Well, the America’s Got Talent host just revealed if he has plans to head back to the altar and his answer isn’t exactly what we wanted to hear…

It looks like we won’t see Cannon in a wedding tux anytime soon — or ever again, in fact! “Never,” the TV host divulged when asked by reporters if he was ever going to get married again. What?!

New Girl Gif

Photo: Giphy

“That messes everything up,” Cannon explained, according to People. “That takes the fairytale out of it. Cinderella didn’t get married, she just lived happily ever after.” Okay first of all, Cinderella was totes in a wedding dress at the end of that movie. And has Cannon forgotten about that time he renewed his vows with Carey at Disneyland, Prince Charming outfit and all?

While we’re totally bummed that we probably won’t ever get to see Cannon take another turn as groom, it seems that his new nuptial philosophy is at least working for him. Cannon has been romantically linked to TLC member Chilli as of late, after the pair collaborated for a music video. “We’ve got an amazing music video together,” Cannon told People. “And the chemistry is undeniable. I’m telling you, it’s real. I’m having fun, she’s having fun.”

Maybe he shouldn’t discount marriage just yet!

Totally Polished Wedding Manicure and Pedicure Combos for Fall

Fall is finally upon us which means all things pumpkin colored and pumpkin spiced — especially when it comes to your wedding nails. Mixing and matching different nail colors to get the perfect wedding Mani/pedi combination is one of the best parts of getting your nails done, and the seasonal colors of fall make for beautiful combinations. Warm, earthy colors are flattering on every skin tone and never fail to make your nails stand out.

You may be thinking that you need to keep your wedding nails a little more neutral, maybe a french manicure on the hands and a barely there nude on the toes. Those are classics that work all year long, but this fall you can rock a manicure and pedicure combination that will turn heads. These are combinations that will look stunning and add a lot of personality to your wedding photos.

A good rule of thumb is to keep the manicure color subtler than the pedicure. This allows your ring to take the stage instead and leaves you lots of room to get a little more wild with your pedicure. You can go for traditional fall shades of burgundy and orange, or shake things up with gold and periwinkle. From traditional nudes to cobalt blue, your nails can match any theme and show off your colorful personality. All of these combinations would be an easy DIY for the bride-to-be with steady hands, or you can show them off to your favorite nail technician.

Below, check out eight mani/pedi combinations you will love.

Nude and Metallic Nail Polish

Nude and Metallic
Keeping your fingernails nude will put all the emphasis on your ring! Deborah Lippmann “Natural Woman” is a beautiful light nude shade. You can always shake things up with something more bold on the toes like Zoya polish in “Faye,” this is a purple and gold duo chrome polish that looks a little different in every light.

Pastel Pink and Buff Nail Polish

Pastel Pink and Buff
For something a little sweeter you can wear a light pastel pink on the hands like Essie “Topless and Barefoot,” and use a deeper shade on the toes. The OPI shade “Yank My Doodle” is the perfect dark rose.

Gray and Khaki Nail Polish

Grey and Khaki
This duo is coziest of them all. With a light grey on the nails, like Essie “Now and Zen,” you can match absolutely any dress and a bright green, like Zoya “Dree,” adds a very fun pop of color.

Blush and Orange Nail Polish

Barely There Blush and Orange
For a very polished but understated vibe, look no further than the Jinsoon polish in “Blush.” This shade is so tame that it leaves you lots of room to go bold on your pedicure. For a nod to the season of pumpkin spice, China Glaze “Son of a Peach” is a really fun bright orange.

Bronze and Blue Nail Polish

Bronze and Cobalt Blue
If you wan a surprisingly fab combination, just go for a muted bronze on the finger nails, like OPI “Inside the Isabelletway,” paired with a cobalt blue pedicure using Formula X “Oceanic.”

Gold and Army Green Nail Polish

Photo: Nails Inc and Butter London via Instagram

Gold and Army Green
For a very royal and sophisticated manicure, apply the Nails Inc polish in “Crown Place.” It’s a golden shade that isn’t too yellow, and pairs well with the luxurious green of Butter London’s “Smoking Slippers.”

Periwinkle and Burgundy Nail Polish

Periwinkle and Burgundy
If a delicate blue shade is what you’re looking for, Butter London “Something Blue” is the perfect color. Paired with a bold burgundy that screams fall you are all set with a stunning mani/pedi. Smith and Cult have the perfect dark burgundy shade in “Lovers Creep.”

Black and White Nail Polish

Black and White
For the most high contrast combination look no further than black and white! Deborah Lippmann’s “Misty Morning” is just off-white enough that it says fall instead of summer, and OPI “My Private Jet” has micro shimmer to keep things interesting.

She finally gets her (bouquet of) roses — and is happily married! On Saturday, Bachelor in Paradise and The Bachelor alum Ashley Salter married her college sweetheart love Austin Brannen in the Bahamas.

The 26-year-old and her new husband, who have a five-month-old son together, rekindled their love earlier this year, according to the Daily Mail. The two met up in Georgia when she started filming the second season of Bachelor in Paradise, and it seems like the rest is history — although she did date two cast members (Dan Cox and Nick Peterson) during her stint on the show. The happy couple got engaged last September, and reports claimed that Brannen popped the question after taking Salter to a helipad at the W Hotel in Atlanta, complete with a bouquet of roses (obviously!) and a breathtaking view of the southern city. Clearly he has a lot to live up to, because she’s used to some pretty spectacular and picturesque dates.

The former hairstylist and her commercial real estate broker beau tied the knot on the beach in a beautiful ceremony at the Atlantis Hotel & Casino. Wearing a semi-illusion high neck gown with a loose mermaid fit, the bride stunned in ivory — while her groom wore a dapper beige suit with a simple white button down, totally channeling beach vibes. Salter’s hair was pulled back in an intricate chignon style with her veil cascading down from the nape of her neck over a beautiful scooped-out back of her dress. Sparkly statement earrings completed her look, and it’s easy to say that the two looked absolutely
stunning together. Her bridesmaids wore taupe lace tops and sage-colored tulle skirt separates, holding delicate bouquets of white roses.

Throughout their wedding weekend, Salter and her man shared a series of photos on Instagram, which took place on quite the gorgeous and sunny day on the tropical island. “My last day as a single woman #saltertothealter #brannengotthefinalrose,” she wrote while wearing a black two-piece bathing suit (making us pretty jealous of her 5-month post-baby abs). In another snap, she was wearing the same black bathing suit, snuggled up to her groom-to-be on the beach with the caption under photo saying, “@agbrannen can’t wait to tie the knot xx #saltertothealter #brannengotthefinalrose.” Her hubs posted a few sweet photos of their destination weekend as well, his latest being a shot of the newlyweds at their sweetheart table with the ocean just behind them.

Of course, seeing her tie the knot brings back some pretty comical memories of our beloved “Ashley S” on Chris Soules’ season of The Bachelor, who gained her claim to fame when she compared people to onions (what? they really are complex with lots of layers…). Needless to say, it looks like her reality show days are behind her and she’s enjoying her role as mom — and now wife! Congrats you two — we can only imagine that an alum from The Bachelor is going to take quite the decadent honeymoon.
