Bachelor in Paradise Finale: Everyone Who Got Engaged During Last Night's Episode

Bachelor in Paradise Season Three Finale

Neil Lane engagement rings all around! The latest über-dramatic season of Bachelor in Paradise has just come to a close and at the finish line lies some new bridal bling (as per usual) for a few chosen couples — three darling duos to be exact! So who’s leaving Mexico with quite possibly the greatest vacay souvenir ever? Read on to find out!

Bachelor nation, could you think of a better on-screen treat than three couples vowing to tie the knot? Yeah, didn’t think so. On last night’s Bachelor in Paradise finale, Carly Waddell and Evan Bass, Grant Kemp and Lace Morris, and Josh Murray and Amanda Stanton all got engaged as we squealed with sheer delight (and a little too much rosé).

First up was Evan Bass and Carly Waddell, who were cruising on cloud nine after their date in the Fantasy Suite. Bass performed a terrible rap about Waddell being gluten-free and that pretty much sealed the deal. Neil Lane (of course) assisted Evan in choosing the perfect engagement ring for his future bride and then it was off to the beach to pop the question. “I feel like my heart beats to your soul,” Bass began before dropping to one knee. “Carly Waddell, will you freakin’ marry me?” he asked. “That’s freakin’ perfect,” the bride-to-be said of her new ring. Freakin’ adorable.

Next up was Grant Kemp and Lace Morris. The morning after their Fantasy Suite date was a little less than picture perfect, with Kent wondering aloud if getting engaged right away was the right choice. “Why did we get tattoos if you’re just going to wake up the next morning and question if we should be engaged or not?” wondered Morris, asking what we were just thinking. But fear not, because the hunky firefighter did end up popping the question, as well — with the cutest proposal yet, we might add! “I love you when you’re happy, I love you when you’re stubborn. I love you when you’re sad. I even love you when you’re screaming at me. But mostly, I love you when you’re Lace,” said Kemp. “Lace, I can’t picture my life without you. I want a future with you. I want babies with you. You know, I want to build a life with you and I want that to start today.” Sigh…

And finally there was Josh Murray and Amanda Stanton. While Murray did have some reservations about moving forward in his relationship with Stanton (she has two young daughters to think about), he too ended up proposing to the blonde beauty. “I never really knew what true love was,” Murray said during the big moment, effectively throwing a little shade at his former fiancé, The Bachelorette‘s Andi Dorfman.

Since filming the finale, all three couples are still happily engaged and busy planning their weddings. Josh is even part of Amanda’s new family photos (see above) with her truly adorbs little ones! But alas, not every couple left Paradise with roses and rings. Jen Saviano and Nick Viall broke it off and utterly broke our hearts in the process. But before telling his former sweetheart that he won’t be getting down on knee, the three-time Bachelor-nation alum also mulled over engagement rings with Neil Lane, who delivered the greatest line of the entire season. “How many times am I going to see you again?!” he asked. We were just wondering the same thing, Lane!

Answer: At least once more — Viall is the newest Bachelor, after all! (Neil Lane better not be sick of him yet!)

The Wedding Trends to Keep and Ditch in 2017

2017 Wedding Trends

Photo: Getty Images

In the world of wedding trends, things are constantly changing, evolving and starting anew. Want to stay on the pulse of what’s new? Curious what not-to-do for next year’s weddings? We chatted with celebrity wedding planner extraordinaire David Tutera to uncover what he’d love to see change in the world of weddings, as well as his recommended trends for 2017 brides.

Ditch The After-Party
While you might be bummed to hear this at first, Tutera really believes guests should stay put, and you can bring the “after-party” to the party. “I want guests to stay in one location, and keep the energy escalating and flowing,” he explains. The wedding is the main event, so why risk losing the party vibes with a venue change? Tutera suggests couples can, “create movement and energy in one environment with lighting, entertainment, opening up a different bar or dessert station, etc.” We love this idea — the more “wedding time” the better!

Modern & Industrial Vibes
Tutera forecasts a mix of metallics and whites to top the palette charts of 2017/2018, but forget the golds and shiny silvers. Softer, brushed metallic popping from bright white accents are a color combo made in heaven, and will totally help to achieve those “contemporary yet city hip vibes” that will be so on-trend. Combine this color palate with industrial and modern touches for a fashionable yet classy look.

Stay Connected
Regardless of what trends, themes, or vibes you’re going for, Tutera stresses the importance of remaining connected with your new spouse throughout the wedding day celebrations. “What’s been happening is couples separate to their friends and don’t hang out with their significant other on their celebration. That’s not good. That’s something I am trying to force people to understand is incredibly important.” Noted!

Incorporate Paper
Whether it’s in floral bouquets, incorporated into your big-day décor, or used as a way to preserve special wedding “memory moments,” incorporating paper into your wedding day is quickly growing in popularity — and for good reason. Economical, potentially eco-friendly and unique in any way you use it, paper isn’t just for wedding invitations anymore. Tutera says, “there’s so many interesting things you can do,” and adds, “People are sort of surprised, like oh my gosh, look what you can do with paper.”

Ditch Receiving Lines
“I am not a fan of receiving lines,” admits Tutera. He adds, “I think it creates a large barrier of etiquette for that celebration — it’s too formal.” Instead, opt to greet your guests during cocktail hour, and throughout the night. It may not seem like it, but you will have the time.

First Looks
These are a keeper. Tutera gushes, “I love first looks. I think they’re brilliant. It takes me forever to convince a bride and groom to do that,” but he adds, “They’re more personal — I love them.” We here at BRIDES can’t help but agree. (And they make for stunning and heartfelt photos, too.)

5 Ab-Friendly Foods to Eat Before Your Wedding Day

avocado on cutting board

Photo: Getty Images

The saying, “abs are made in the kitchen,” is an old one, but with good reason. You can exercise all you want, but without the right foods and proper nutrition, it won’t get you very far. As nutritionist Rania Batayneh, MPH author of “The One One One Diet: The Simple 1:1:1 Formula for Fast and Sustained Weight Loss,” puts it, “Your gut is really where it’s at. The inside will reflect on the outside with regards to keeping bloating at bay and your tummy flat.”

Words of the wise, you might say. With the advent and rise of cropped wedding dresses, more and more brides-to-be are committed to getting that six-pack for the big day. And even if you won’t be showing off your abs down the aisle, chances are you will be in your new bikini on the honeymoon. So make sure you incorporate these five foods in your diet, as they’ll help supplement your ab workouts to get the look you’re going for.

1. Plain Yogurt
“The probiotic bacteria in most yogurts help keep your digestive system healthy, which translates into a lower incidence of gas, bloating, and constipation, which can keep your tummy looking flat,” says Batayneh. Sound boring? Top it off with the next food on this list.

2. Hemp Seeds

Hemp seeds, or other sources of clean protein, such as organic pasture-raised eggs and pure almond butter, should be a critical part of your diet. In fact, certified nutritionist and wellness coach Kara Stout, M.Ed., HHC, recommends eating clean protein at every meal. “[It’s] necessary for many reasons, including helping you to not overeat, keeping you full longer, preserving lean muscle mass, and encouraging fat burning.” She adds that you can easily add in clean protein by making a smoothie with both hemp seeds and almond butter.

3. Avocados
Or any other food rich in potassium for that matter, such as bananas or dark, leafy greens. “The two main minerals that control the amount of water in your body are sodium and potassium,” says Batayneh. “When they are out of balance and your stress levels are too high in your body, your tissues will hold onto fluids, which leads to bloating.” Luckily, there’s no shortage of ways to consume avocado these days!

4. Warm Lemon Water
Stout advises drinking warm lemon water first thing when you wake up in the morning. “This helps with your digestion and detoxifying, which ultimately leads to a flatter stomach,” she adds.

5. Ginger
“Ginger is a natural anti-inflammatory, and it soothes the digestive system and relaxes the muscles of the digestive tract, which can relieve bloating,” says Batayneh. Instead of unwinding at night with a glass of wine, she suggests kicking back with a cup of ginger tea sweetened with a little honey.

And remember, what you don’t put in your body is just as important as what you put into it. Stout says that one of the most effective steps her brides take in losing weight and obtaining a flat and toned stomach is avoiding refined sugar and artificial sweeteners. “In addition to these being harmful to your general health, they cause bloating, weight gain, increased sugar cravings, and can increase hunger,” she says.

Batayneh adds that you want to keep your blood sugar stable to avoid dips in energy — otherwise, you’ll turn to almost any food that’s around you.

You should also reduce bread, alcohol, and processed foods from your diet and avoid over salting your food. As Stout puts it, “You want to eat plenty of clean, whole foods to reach your goals.”

6 Wedding Ceremony Additions That are Totally Thoughtful

ceremony additions

Photo: Marisa Holmes

There are a few standard things that happen in every wedding ceremony: A walk down the aisle, an exchange of vows, your first kiss as a married couple. And you might say that those traditions are the most important to follow. But personalizing your wedding ceremony and making it feel special and memorable for you and you guests might mean adding a few extra moments into the wedding. These little touches will make all the difference when you think back on your big day.

A Moment of Silence
While you don’t want to dwell on sadness the day of your wedding, remembering family and friends who aren’t with you is a lovely way to honor those who have passed, while also making it feel as though they are part of this special day. Have your officiant ask for a moment (it really only has to be a moment) of silence before beginning the rest of the ceremony. Include names of grandparents or parents if it’s important to you, but if you’re worried about a long list or leaving out special friends and family, keep the sentiment more general.

A Love Story
You’re here to celebrate the love you share for one another, but oftentimes you never hear the bride and groom’s love story at their wedding. Don’t leave out yours. Come up with a way for your officiant to include your couple history. Just make sure to keep the story short and sweet — there’s no need to get bogged down in the details of who kissed whom first or what you were wearing!

A Special Reading
Including a reading in your wedding is a personal decision, but it’s a great way to involve friends or family who aren’t otherwise a part of the wedding. Have cousins, a close friend, or a beloved aunt and uncle (or some combo of all of these people!) share in the reading of a favorite love poem, a blessing, or a psalm. Avoid letting them write their own speech though — the wedding ceremony is not the time for toasts.

A Loving Glance
One thing bride and grooms often forget is to take everything in — and the wedding goes by in such a blur! The ceremony, with everyone gathered in one place, is the perfect opportunity to take in and appreciate everyone who has come out to celebrate the two of you. Incorporate a pause in the ceremony when you turn around to face and take in the crowd. You won’t need to fake a smile for the camera when you see all the love looking back at you.

A Favorite Song
Whether you ask the musicians to play it or call on a friend with a great singing voice, including a song in your wedding ceremony can be a beautiful moment that adds some pause and weight to your ceremony. Like a reading, include it somewhere in the middle as a break from all the talk about the two of you. It can be a favorite love song that just didn’t work as your first dance tune or a religious hymn. If it feels too long to incorporate, consider cutting it down to a favorite verse or two and one round of the chorus.

A Family Memento
Many wedding ceremonies include, for lack of a better word, props. Whether it’s a prayer shawl or your wedding rings, consider using family heirlooms or mementos. If your wedding calls for a unity candle, ask your grandmother to borrow her candlestick holder. If it calls for a wine glass, consider something your aunt gave you as a present years ago. And no matter what you use, if it has a special meaning, make sure the officiant explains that to the crowd — it will help personalize your ceremony greatly.

10 Fun Location Ideas for Your Fall Engagement Photos

Engagement pictures are a chance to capture all that pre-wedding excitement between you and your fiancé in some professionally shot, we-are-looking-better-than-ever images. One of the best parts about the tradition is getting to choose a unique place to host the photo shoot, especially if you’re hoping to highlight a gorgeous season like autumn. Here are 10 of our favorite ideas for fall engagement photo locations — you probably won’t get married in any of these spots, but you’ll definitely want to capture their beauty beforehand.

1. On a Lavender Farm

Imagine roaming through fields of fragrant lavender with your soon-to-be spouse. The Peace Valley Lavender Farm in Bucks County, PA, lets you do just that any Thursday through Sunday by appointment. Call ahead and prepare to take some gorgeous shots against a rustic barn, next to a vintage bike, or between hanging lavender. Carry a basket of the purple flowers as a prop and you’ll get some of the calming benefits too.

2. Beneath a Lighthouse
If you and your partner are nautically inclined, the lighthouses on Cape Cod can serve as a stunning backdrop. Chancey Charm Boston/Cape Cod Wedding Planner Jyl Deering suggests Chatham Lighthouse in Chatham, MA. You won’t be able to have your wedding in or near the buildings, so might as well take advantage during some pre-wedding pics.

3. Amidst Ancient Driftwood
The hauntingly beautiful tree graveyard that is Driftwood Beach makes for some one-of-a-kind engagement photos. Find the secluded escape on Jekyll Island, GA — just between Jacksonville, FL, and Savannah, GA — where off-the-beaten path beauty reigns. The quiet setting is perfect for taking some romantic shots.

4. Over a Scenic River

When it’s not open to the public (i.e. before 9 a.m. or after 6 p.m.), reserve use of Vista House at Crown Point on the Columbia River Gorge in Oregon for your personal photo sesh. Melanie Marconi of Where Will They Stay? recommends the spot for stunning early morning or late sunset shoots overlooking the river from a unique octagonal stone structure vantage point.

5. At Joshua Tree
If you’re not keen on throwing your wedding way out in a national park but love the idea of some natural and outdoorsy photos then strap on your hiking boots and take photos at a forest like Joshua Tree in southern California. Jagged rocks dot the desert-like panorama, lending a rugged edge to your otherwise sweet engagement stills.

6. A City Station
Going for an urban or architectural vibe? Union Station in Denver, Colorado, not only has luxurious velvet couches and dark wooden benches, but it’s packed with fresh florals throughout the year at Bloom flower shop. Pick up a small bouquet to use as a prop, or park yourself in front of the store for some floral romanticism. Chancey Charm Denver Wedding Planner Lauren Groeper also says to make use of the station’s holiday décor around Christmastime.

7. At a Waterfront Park
This may be an obvious choice, but consider checking out a waterfront park like Downs Memorial Park in Pasadena, Maryland, for some extra special options. The waterfront landscape lends itself to views of the glistening Chesapeake Bay while scenic trails (both paved and unpaved) are covered by a canopy of trees. There’s a foot bridge between areas of the park and even a fishing pier for walking along hand-in-hand. The fall foliage will only add to the natural beauty in your photos.

8. Your State Capitol
Government may not go hand-in-hand with your idea of passionate love, but there are some breathtaking state capitol buildings that might set the scene for striking engagement pictures. You can usually count on an impressive set of front steps, which wedding planner Kelli Corn says can add some dramatic height and allow you to take photos from many different angles. Up-close feels personal and can capture some of the architectural details while wide lens shots incorporate the whole building and give the aura of grandeur. Some surprisingly beautiful buildings? Montpelier, Vermont and Des Moines, Iowa.

9. On Above-Water Rocks
There’s nothing quite as quaint as your local coffee shop in the fall. Main Street in Richmond, VA, has plenty to choose from, and tons of cobblestone streets to walk in between – all for great photo ops. Chancey Charm Richmond Wedding Planner Alana Futcher says to stop by the James River where you can walk on some above-water rocks with the city skyline lighting up the background.

10. At Your Local Fair
You probably won’t host your wedding at a carnival or amusement park, so why not take some fun engagement shots there? Stephanie Yonce of Stephanie Yonce Photography likes the idea of seeking out state fairs, arcades, or festivals for some lighthearted time in front of the camera. She suggests the Virginia State Fair or at Busch Gardens in Williamsburg, VA.

Father Dies Just Minutes After Dancing at Daughter's Wedding

Every father looks forward to the day he can walk his little girl down the aisle, give her away, and dance with her at her wedding reception. Unfortunately for one proud father, it turned out to be the last thing that he would ever do.

According to People, Tim Buchanan, a 54-year-old veteran detective with the York County Sheriff’s Department in Rock Hill, South Carolina, suffered from a heart attack just minutes after his father-daughter dance with his daughter, Michele Howard, at her wedding in Costa Rica on Saturday.

Tim’s wife, Jeni, broke the heartbreaking news to friends and family on her Facebook page (which can be seen below).

“He was the most beautiful soul I have ever known and I will never be the same without him,” Jeni wrote. “I know he loved me and our family. Over the years we raised four amazing children, cared for my little brothers when they needed us the most and had even had the honor of a beautiful grandchild.”

In addition to writing about her husband and their lives together, she shared a beautiful photo of the couple taken at their daughter’s wedding.

“I am so very grateful for this image of us that our dear friends snuck during our daughter’s wedding yesterday. Little did I know just a few hours later we would lose him,” Jeni, who is pictured with Tim below during their vow renewal ceremony in Paris in 2014, said of the photo.

A friend of the Buchanan’s set up a GoFundMe page for the family that has raised more than $12,000 over the past few days.

Jenn Lewis, the creator of the page, wrote, “Jeni and Tim were so excited to head to Costa Rica a few days ago for their daughter’s wedding. If you know Jeni, you know how much Tim means to her and how wonderful the love is that they share.”

The last line of Jeni’s Facebook post is the most gut-wrenching of all, reading, “For now, just pray. He was always the one to make us feel better when things went wrong so we need all the prayers we can get.”

This Couple's Blowout, Multi-Day Wedding in the Hamptons and in France Will Blow You Away

Alex Carl and Peter Campbell first met on February 2, 2006, in Cape Town, South Africa. “I was taking a year abroad after finishing college to study, do some service work, and decide where life was taking me next,” says Alex. She booked a room a student house and Peter, whose father owned the building, was working as the property’s landlord while he finished his degree at the University of Cape Town. “As my mom and I were unpacking my suitcases, she turned to me and said, ‘Alex, your landlord is really cute!'” Just six nights later, the duo shared their first kiss and has been inseparable ever since.

Eight years later, on April 1, 2014, Peter popped the question at Isabella Plantation in Richmond Park, just outside of London. After their cross-continental courtship (the couple now calls New York home), choosing just one location to celebrate their wedding with friends and family seemed nearly impossible. In fact, Alex and Peter were torn between hosting an intimate celebration with just their nearest and dearest or throwing one blowout party for everyone they loved. So rather than choosing, the bride and groom did both. Bonus: Multiple parties allowed the couple to take advantage of two insane venues they had at their disposal, the bride’s family’s home in Southampton and its stories chateau in France‘s Loire Valley.

That’s right: In just seven days, this sweet couple hosted two ceremonies, two receptions, and six parties, making it marathon celebration that was full of “wow” moments and over-the-top hospitality. And with pros like planner Mindy Weiss, florist Jeff Leatham, caterer Peter Callahan, and photographer Gia Canali working on their celebrations, Alex and Peter became husband and wife during one seriously unforgettable week.

The wedding week kicked off with a beachfront rehearsal dinner and welcome drinks on June 19, 2015. The groom’s family hosted dinner for the wedding party before opening up the revelry to all of the couple’s 250 guests to come enjoy cocktails and dessert.

Guests were welcomed out East with bags filled with Hamptons-inspired goodies, plus a few nods to the groom’s South African roots.

The next day, everyone arrived at Little Orchard, Alex’s family’s Hamptons estate, for a garden-inspired ceremony and reception. The expansive property features gardens lovingly created and maintained by Alex’s mother, so the day’s décor was inspired by the lush landscape. In one corner of the property, wildflowers bloom throughout the summer, so the bride asked Jeff Leatham and his team to create a similar look at the ceremony entrance. The result was a display of 3,500 white roses that had been studded into the ground to look as if they were growing naturally.

The bride’s mother, owner of Paris-based company D. Porthault, worked with Leatham to create custom fabric in honor of her daughter’s wedding. Dubbed “Mariage,” the gorgeous floral pattern featured Alex’s favorite flowers and was used throughout the wedding, including on table linens, favors, and the flower girl’s dresses.

Alex wore a beautiful Oscar de la Renta wedding dress for her first celebration. The strapless silhouette featured filigree embroidered details, a ball gown skirt, and a sweetheart neckline. “I loved the delicate all-over lace effect that felt so feminine and whimsical,” the bride says.

She spent the morning getting ready with her mother, bridesmaids, and two dogs, Rufus and Scout.

Alex’s bridesmaids wore dresses the bride had custom-made out of beautiful white silk shantung. Each carried a bouquet of pink comprised of slightly different blooms. “I wanted each to have a slightly different color and texture, so Jeff made a different bouquet for each girl,” says Alex.

Her flower girl, Ella, donned her custom D. Portault dress, hand-sewed by the bride’s mother and accessorized with a dainty white flower crown.

Peter’s Tom Ford suit was in keeping with the elevated garden-party vibe.

The couple’s ceremony was held in the rose garden at Little Orchard. Because the garden itself was not actually in bloom yet, Jeff Leatham’s team brought in the pink roses that decorated the space, sticking with the same variety and color of roses that naturally grow there. The results were simply amazing, and most guests had no idea the blooms had been brought in. Pink hydrangeas lined the aisle.

Just as the 5:30 p.m. vows were about to begin, rain began to fall outside. “I have always had nightmares about rain on my wedding day,” the bride admits. “Somehow I just knew it would rain on my wedding and I thought it would ruin everything. I was so incredibly wrong!” Instead of fretting over the weather, Alex asked if they could go on as scheduled. “I just wanted to see Peter and marry the love of my life. I was all happy jitters, smiles, and joy. I couldn’t have cared less about the rain.”

Umbrellas were put up over the ceremony seats to keep guests comfortable, and the wedding processional started right on cue. Alex and Peter’s ring bearers and flower girl made their entrances before the bride and her parents walked down the aisle. “I ended up loving that rain so much and I can’t even begin to image what the day would have been without,” she says.

Alex’s parent’s lifelong friend, Linda Fairstein, officiated the couple’s civil ceremony. Because they would exchange vows again during a religious blessing in France, the pair decided to stick to traditional proceedings.

Because of the rain, the original plan to have guests explore the property during cocktail hour had to be revised. Even with little time to rejigger his plan, caterer Peter Callahan was able to create a working solution. “We had beautiful, whimsical little maps made to show guests various points of interest around the garden and had organized for certain food stations to be set up at various places,” says Alex. “We modified the plan and held cocktail hour on the grounds closest to the house, on the front porch, and on the main floor. Peter is our hero for making this happen.”

Guests enjoyed a walking raw bar, a South African food station, an assortment of local veggies, and delicious hot and cold appetizers.

Escort cards were arranged on a table topped with moss and greenery. Then, guests entered the insanely beautiful reception tent.

Chandeliers of greenery were suspended over tables and the dance floor while custom D. Portault linens dressed each table.

Each table was named after a location that was meaningful to the bride and groom, including the head table, which was dubbed “Isabella Plantation” after the site of Alex and Peter’s engagement.

The centerpieces were a sight to behold. “The guest tables were decorated with three different arrangements that we had helped Jeff design,” says the bride. “One was purely green and white, one was blue and white with touches of green, and the last was mostly yellow with white and green.” Flowers included garden roses, hydrangeas, calla lilies, peonies, and camelias. On the head table, Jeff created a knockout display of fresh Lily of the Valley.

As another personalized touch, Alex’s mother created custom napkins with the bride and groom’s monogram for each place setting.

Peter Callahan created an incredible five-course sit down dinner. “The meal deserved a Michelin Star!” Alex gushes. “They delivered on the most consistently fantastic-tasting food on the day of. Not only this, but on the wedding day, they were such team players and took initiative. They jumped in to do things that were not in their job description just to help out and make sure everything ran smoothly for us.”

The couple shared their first dance (the foxtrot!) to Tim McGraw’s “Just to See You Smile,” performed by the Hank Lane Band and their close friend, Paz, who previous toured with the country singer.

To feed their 250 guests, the couple chose a seven-tiered round cake from BCakeNY. Beneath layers of fondant and sugar flowers, layers of lemon cake with lemon buttercream and vanilla cake with fresh blueberries awaited guests. “The vanilla cake is actually my maternal grandmother’s recipe that we shared with our baker and she happily created for us!” says Alex. “It was so delicious.”

The bride also surprised her groom with a cartoon-style giraffe groom’s cake. The adorable design was tasty, too: Guests dug into red velvet cake with rum filling.

Guests then gathered on the front lawn for a sparkler sendoff, but rather than saying goodbye, the couple actually headed towards their after parties — yes, plural! Everyone could continue the party at a South African-inspired bar beneath the Hiding Tree, a beautiful weeping-beech tree on the grounds, or in the apple orchard.

The next day, everyone headed back to the Carl’s beautiful home for a poolside brunch. There, Jeff Leatham broke down centerpieces and décor and created custom bouquets for each guest to take home. Talk about an epic favor!

One week later, on June 27, 2015, when 24 guests gathered in Champigny-sur-Veude, France, for a candlelit ceremony and a midnight feast at the family’s incredible chateau. “We had always envisioned a small, intimate wedding so the perfect way to do that was to have our second ceremony in France,” the bride says.

Alex wore a bespoke Phillipa Lepley wedding dress for her second ceremony, while Peter wore a black tuxedo he already owned. Naturally, the couple’s two dogs made the journey to France, too!

“Since the chapel is on our property, we were able to have as many flowers, candles, and dogs as we wanted! And we did!” says Alex. Jeff Leatham joined the couple and their families in France, and decorated this celebration with an entirely different eye. “We told Jeff France was his. He could do whatever he wanted with the décor there. Peter and I almost fainted when we saw it all.”

Their one request for the ceremony? They wanted endless amounts of white flowers and candles, and Jeff delivered. At 11 p.m., the bride and groom walked hand-in-hand down the aisle and exchanged religious vows.

After, guests enjoyed a multi-course meal in the family’s own dining room, using dinnerware they already owned. Jeff Leatham decorated the space with deep red flowers, perfect for the moody vibe of the chateau.

The party went on all night, but guests still managed to get out of bed for one final event the next morning: Hot air ballooning to an open field where chilled champagne was waiting.

The couple celebrated their marriage with a road trip honeymoon that took them across the country. “We wanted the weddings to look quite different and to be a reflection of the locations where they were set,” says Alex. “But we love the way the events flowed into one another.”

What Should We Do With Leftover Wedding Favors?

While favors are by no means a wedding necessity, setting out a little something for your guests to take home at the end of the night is an extra opportunity to infuse your wedding with your personality. From Grandma’s famous chocolate chip cookies to a hangover kit with Alka Seltzer and Advil, it continues the fun for a little while longer, and can be a super-sweet gesture your guests will love. But of course, not everyone will see your favors or remember to take one as they leave. So what should you do with the leftovers? Here are a few ideas from our experts.

The best way to deal with leftover wedding favors depends on the type of favors you’re offering. If it’s a late-night treat, like sliders and fries or fresh-from-the-oven cookies, encourage the stragglers to take a few with them to make a dent in your favor supply. Unfortunately, for the sake of freshness, whatever’s left over can’t really be saved. You can, however, ask your planner or the venue manager to distribute the treats amongst the staff that’s arriving to break down and clean up once the lights come on. Don’t let those tasty treats go to waste!

If it’s an edible favor that’s a little more shelf-stable (say, jars of local honey or decorated cookies with a slightly longer shelf life), encourage guests to take a few to share with their kids. Bring the leftovers to your morning-after brunch, or if they really will last a while, take them home and have them on-hand to share with visitors or to distribute at your first dinner party.

Those hangover kits don’t have to go to the trash. You could either disassemble them and use those individual packs of ibuprofen to tuck into your purse or take with you on vacation, or stock your medicine cabinet for whenever the need arises. You could also keep the kits packed up and leave one or two on the bed in your guest room when friends or family come to visit. Sure, they might not be hungover, but it’s always nice to have a few basic necessities available when you’re staying in someone else’s home!

Of course, there are also favors that are a little more branded and a little less useful when you have 20 of them. From shot glasses to bottle openers, coasters to bookmarks, save a few as mementos, then figure out the best way to donate or dispose of the rest. That may mean a trip to the dump or the recycling center, but keep in mind: If you don’t want a whole bunch of tchotchkes with your own names on them, chances are a donation center won’t want them either.
