Ah, bloating, the bane of many people’s existences. There are plenty of reasons you may all of a sudden feel like an inflatable pool toy. You could be retaining water like a mo-fo. Maybe you just traveled halfway around the world and didn’t move around enough on the flight. Or perhaps you loaded up on bloat-causing foods, which can be particularly sneaky (who would have thought common salad ingredients could puff you up so much?). No matter the cause, you can bust bloat — especially with the following handy tricks from registered dietitians.

1. Drink naturally flavored water and stay away from the sodium.
“After a super salty meal like Chinese takeout, I’m in definite need of debloating. My go-to home remedies are hot lemon water (add lemon wedges to water in a mug and microwave until hot), hot green tea, or muddled cucumber water. All three help to make me feel much less bloated. I also try to keep my food choices lower in sodium, like having old-fashioned oats with fruit and a hard-boiled egg for breakfast instead of a processed, ready-made breakfast sandwich.” — Lauren Harris-Pincus, M.S., R.D.N., owner of NutritionStarringYOU.com

2. Seek out foods with plenty of potassium.
“I up my intake of potassium-rich foods such as dark leafy greens, bananas, avocados, and asparagus. Potassium serves as a natural diuretic and counters your body’s response to sodium, which will help you beat the bloat!” — Rebecca Ditkoff, R.D, CUNY School of Public Health and member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics

3. Opt for whole grains instead of refined ones.
“I try to avoid a lot of processed carbohydrates, so foods like pretzels, crackers, and white bread, bagels, or pasta. These love water and will add to that bloated feeling. Instead, I stick to whole grains in their purest form, such as quinoa, farro, whole oats, wheat berries, and brown rice.” — Laura Manning, M.P.H., R.D., C.D.N., clinical nutrition coordinator of gastroenterology, The Mount Sinai Hospital

4. Drink, drink, drink — but stay away from carbonation.
“Hydrate! It may sound counterintuitive, but when you’re dehydrated, your cells retain water. Plenty of H20 will help flush everything out. But avoid sparkling water or anything carbonated — all those gas bubbles just increase that bloated feeling.” — Sarah Rueven, M.S., R.D., C.D.N., owner of Sarah Rueven Nutrition

5. Focus on fiber.
Constipation is a common cause for bloating, so eating a diet high in fiber can help. For snacks, I cut up a pile of fresh, crunchy vegetables like carrots, cucumbers, bell peppers, grape tomatoes, and snap peas. I fill baggies with handfuls and keep them on hand for a quick, easy, and delicious healthy snack whenever I need it throughout the day. The fiber in these foods helps me feel full without feeling bloated or tired.” — Cara Walsh, R.D., Medifast California

6. But choose your vegetables wisely.
“Avoid gassy vegetables like broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, and kale, which often cause bloating and gas. Also, eat food rich in probiotics. Fermented foods like kefir, sauerkraut, and yogurt contain live active cultures that may help reduce bloating and abdominal discomfort.” — Abbey Sharp, R.D., Abbey’s Kitchen

7. Skip the sugar-free gum.
“I reach for Altoids instead of chewing sugarless gum, which contains sugar alcohols and makes me look seven months pregnant. The mints have sugar, but I’m not eating a lot of them.” — Abby Langer, R.D. and owner of Abby Langer Nutrition in Toronto

8. Incorporate dandelion greens into your meals.
“Try adding dandelion greens to your salad. These guys are perfect for fighting bloat because they are high in fiber, are a natural diuretic, and stimulate the digestive system — three hugely helpful ways to deflate.” — Brigitte Zeitlin, M.P.H., R.D., C.D.N., founder of the New York-based BZ Nutrition, tells SELF

9. Heat things up.
“I gravitate towards my heating pad for no better reason than that it works. The heats make my stomach to feel better and help me feel like I’m getting rid of the bloat. It can also be helpful to keep a food and symptom log for one week to better understand if your body has in a food intolerance or sensitivity (which are different from an allergy, therefore not identifiable on a blood or skin test).” — Laura Cipullo, R.D., R.Y.T. and author of Women’s Health Body Clock Diet

10. Walk it off.
“One of the best things I’ve found that helps with the uncomfortable feeling of bloating is to get up and get moving. This usually means the dog gets to go for a walk as well, so it’s a win-win.” — Jason Ewoldt, R.D.N., L.D., wellness dietitian, Mayo Clinic Healthy Living Program

NFL players always manage to score major touchdowns when selecting the perfect engagement ring for their brides-to-be, and Larry English is no exception. The defensive end recently proposed to his girlfriend, WAGS‘ Nicole Williams, with a dazzling diamond that would rival any old Superbowl ring. Seriously, her new beautiful engagement ring is HUGE. And we have all of the details on that megawatt rock!

The WAGS star (that’s wives and girlfriends of professional athletes for the non-reality show obsessed) is updating her show status from girlfriend to wife-to-be after her longtime love finally got down on one knee on the recently-aired season two finale of WAGS. After four years of dating, English surprised Williams while she was in Thailand for an epic proposal — and with a ring to match!

“I really felt like I had to come over here because you didn’t have nothin’ to wear on your left hand. So I felt I needed to come over here to bring you something to weigh your left hand down a little bit more,” English told his new fiancé, slipping a seriously stunning Ritani engagement ring on her hand.

Williams of course said yes and now has a major piece of bling to show off! According to People, English spent months designing the custom engagement ring for his fiancé. The flawless center stone, an oval-cut diamond, weighs in at 5.14-carats and sits on an 18-carat rose gold band covered with over 100 smaller round-cut stones. The total cost? Over $250,000. We’re fanning ourselves over here…

“This is the one thing that Nicole will wear every day for the rest of her life,” English told E! News of the design process, adding that he requested the addition of the finished ring’s halo as it gave the piece “a romantic and vintage-inspired look.” The groom’s biggest concern? “I want to make sure it sparkles,” he said.

That it most definitely does!

The 10 Things That *Always* Make Guests Cry at Weddings

If you’re like most women, you could legit attend a stranger’s wedding and still find yourself bawling like a baby in the background. There’s just something about seeing someone else say, “I do” that gets all of us all choked up, well, the women anyway. So whether it’s your intention to make your friends and family shed a few tears or you’re just curious about who else cries at the same things you do at weddings, here are 10 things that will get the waterworks going.

1. The bride walking down the aisle
Not an ugly cry moment, but more like your eyes fill with tears of joy as the music begins to play and you see your friend walking down the aisle in her stunning wedding dress for the first time looking like a gorgeous goddess.

2. Personalized vows
Seriously, they get us every single time. The more eloquent the writing, the better. And the more emotional the vows (and the people reciting them), the more you’ll cry like a little baby. It’s like a Nicholas Sparks’ book where the love is so pure and beautiful you can’t help but get all swept up and overcome with emotion.

3. Traditional vows
Let’s be real, you don’t have to write your own vows to leave the audience in tears! Just hearing those all-important words come out of your mouth as you look tenderly into the eyes of the love of your life is enough to do the trick. Hearts will melt everywhere.

4. When the bride cries
Cue the waterworks! There’s nothing sweeter than watching your BFF break down all on account of love. And of course you’ll be crying tears of happiness right alongside of her.

5. When the groom loses it
What is with men and crying that causes us girls to get so emotional? Every time a groom sheds a tear at a wedding just take a look around at the rest of the guests and you’ll see girls wiping their eyes trying not to ruin their makeup everywhere. It’s a given.

6. When the parents tear up
Whether it’s during the vows or a toast to the couple at dinnertime, seeing the parents get all weepy-eyed over the marriage will open up the floodgates for everyone else (okay, probably just the women once again, but still). It’s just too darn sweet!

7. The first dance
Ugh, the sappy love song combined with the way the bride and groom look at each other as they sway to the music just makes you want to cry at how cute and in love they are, doesn’t it?

8. The father/daughter dance
For some reason, the mother/son dance doesn’t stir up nearly as much emotion in everyone as watching the bride share one last dance with her dad. And OMG, if dad cries during it, you’ll be dabbing your eyes that much harder.

9. Any emotional speech from anyone
Whether it’s mom, dad the maid of honor or the best man, any good speech can quickly open up the floodgates, especially if the bride or groom is emotional over it too!

10. The same day wedding video edit
Somewhat of a tradition in the south, the same day wedding video edit is exactly what it sounds like: a quick edit of your wedding by your videographer that is shown at the end of the reception, often as a surprise to guests. Watching the bride and groom get ready, seeing that first look and getting an intimate peek behind the scenes all set to the perfect song always makes guests misty-eyed.

Looking Back on George & Amal Clooney's Epic Romance

We may no longer have Brangelina, but gosh darn it, we will ALWAYS have George Clooney and Amal Alamuddin to look to for our #MarriageGoals. With the esteemed human rights attorney’s courthouse prowess and the actor’s movie star status, these two are basically royalty without the fancy title. And we’re celebrating the second anniversary of the day that the undisputed king of Hollywood married his queen with a look back on their whirlwind romance with our latest BRIDES video.

Can we third wheel this relationship, please? Probably not, right? Well, even though this video will most likely be as close as we’ll get to George Clooney and Amal Alamuddin (now Mrs. Clooney!), we’re a-okay with it. After all, who doesn’t want to see a slew of photos of these two cuties? (Do those people even exist?!)

Take a romantic walk down memory lane with this collection of the magical moments that make up the Clooneys’ love story. We’re throwing it way back to September 2013 when the Money Monster star first met the international barrister. It must have been love at first sight (it exists, okay!), because only six months later, the perfect pair was engaged, after a slightly fumbled proposal from George. During a romantic at-home dinner, Clooney instructed his about-to-be-fiancé to light a candle with a box of matches that contained a sparkly surprise. “She reaches around, pulls out the box, and I’ve got just the ring sitting in there,” said Clooney. “She pulls it out and she looks at it and she’s like, ‘It’s a ring’ — like as if somebody had left it there some other time!” But, of course, his bride eventually said yes — to a seven-carat emerald-cut engagement ring that still has us starry-eyed.

The next major chapter in their love story? A lavish and luxe wedding in Venice, Italy. How’s that for a dreamy “I do” destination? In September of 2014, Alamuddin — in a now-famous Oscar de la Renta-designed lace wedding dress — wed the smitten movie star at the Aman Canal Grande Hotel, as 100 of their nearest and dearest (included John Krasinski and Emily Blunt, Bono, Anna Wintour, and Bill Murray) looked on. Two years later, we’re just now getting over not scoring an invite…

Watch the rest of the Clooneys’ happily-ever-after above! These two are a fairytale-worthy couple if we’ve ever saw one. (Who said a storybook dame couldn’t fight for human rights on the side?)

The Top Ways to Stay Calm, Cool and Collected Throughout Wedding Planning Stress

The overwhelming task of wedding planning can send even the most zen bride-to-be into a tailspin sometimes. It’s totally normal to feel stressed and a bit frazzled by all the details, deadlines, budgeting, and more. Luckily, there are ways to help you stay calm and centered throughout the planning process, so you can enjoy every moment of being engaged leading up to the big day.

Get Moving
Sure, massages at your favorite spa or enjoying your local beach are some fabulous ways to get your mind mellowed. But here at BRIDES, we also love a good multi-tasking opportunity, so why not work on relaxing your mind AND achieve your pre-wedding fitness goals through movement? Getting exercise (nearly every kind) has an automatic relaxation response that can help a body and mind in need. Movement can affect your breath, blood pressure, heart rate and general sense of well-being while releasing some much-needed-during-wedding-planning serotonin (the happy hormone!)

Breathe
Controlling and observing your breath can be a really powerful relaxation tool, and is also known to lower blood pressure and lessen anxiety, too. While there are tons of different methods to get your chill on through your breath, one of our favorites for beginners is called Sama Vritti in the yoga world, which translates to “equal breathing.” Basically, for every second you inhale, you focus on exhaling the same amount of time for more balanced breathing. Start with 4 seconds in, four seconds out (in through the nose, out through the mouth) and challenge yourself with times from there.

Time Management
There really IS a time and a place for everything, and unfortunately there are only 24 hours in a day. It’s easy to get stressed out and overwhelmed when you try to cram too many planning items into a short amount of time, and time management is key. By pre-planning allotted time slots or sessions devoted to wedding planning and doing your best to stick to it, you can help stay in charge of your calendar and tasks, and when you are in control, you’re more likely to be at ease.

Sleep
According to an old Irish proverb, “A good laugh and a long sleep are the two best cures for anything.” We’d have to agree. Especially for brides-to-be that are holding down full time jobs and what seems to be full-time wedding planning, long nights and early mornings can begin to take their toll. BE sure you’re getting the 7-8 hours your body needs to function optimally and keep you bright eyed and bushy tailed. (And keep those dark circles and puffy eyes at bay!)

Eat Right
Stress eaters, this one is going to be tough — but you’ll thank us later. Many people turn to food for comfort and relaxation in times of high stress or tension, but the momentary solace you might find in ice cream, cake or other junk foods might actually cost you later on. Aside from getting in the way of your nutrition and fitness goals, eating poorly can increase feelings of agitation, lessen your energy levels and make it hard to focus. No bride-to-be needs (or wants) that!

The 3 Things to Remember About Drone Wedding Photography

Just when you thought your options for wedding photography couldn’t get any more expansive, along came drones. Long used by the military for aerial surveillance, drones equipped with cameras are now appearing in the skies above weddings.

The pictures are absolutely amazing. Gone are the days when the only way to get a shot from above involved your photographer performing precarious balancing acts. Now, we can get the same 360 degree view of our weddings filmed with the same amount of precision and clarity as military bombers identifying targets. Pretty freaking amazing!

But, as with all new innovations in the wedding industry, there are some things to be aware of when you decide to hire a photography or videography team that offers drone services, and it’s best to do your research before you sign a contract.

1. Licenses and Registration
While anybody can buy and fly a drone now, drone operators working for commercial business (such as a wedding photography business) must be licensed. The FAA recently created a new test specifically for drone operators, and they must be re-tested every two years. Everybody is supposed to register their newly-purchased drone with the FAA before flying it.

2. Drone Insurance
Wedding photographers and videographers who are offering drone services should have added liability coverage for their flying equipment to their insurance policies, just in case something bad happens. The drones are flying over the heads of your wedding guests, so it’s important to confirm that your photographers have gotten coverage for their birds. Drone operators planning to film at venues that are not private homes must check, in advance, to find out the insurance requirements of the venue. Many hotels and facilities will require proof of coverage before take-off.

See more: 50 Must-Have Wedding Photos

3. Venue Restrictions
While almost all wedding venues will permit some drone usage, many have strict rules about it. Hotels and other venues that are open to the public, or have a houseful of other guests, are far more restrictive about the use of flying photography on their property. It’s not surprising — who wants to become part of somebody else’s wedding video when they’re relaxing by the pool in a bathing suit? There are many properties who consider it an invasion of their other guests’ privacy, and only permit flight directly above your ceremony and reception areas. If it’s important to you to have extensive drone coverage at your wedding and reception venues, be sure to check out venue policies before you sign a contract.

Keep in mind, drones are not silent. Depending on the quality of the device, it can be rather loud. Even the quiet ones are still audible, and can be distracting during your wedding ceremony. Guests just can’t seem to help staring at them. Coordinate with your photographers and determine, with their recommendations, when you want sky-shots, and when to set it down. It’s worth a little bit of distraction for a few special pictures, but you won’t want to film the entire ceremony.

New York City Honeymoon: 3 Days in Uptown NYC

NYC Upper East Side Honeymoon Ideas

Photo: Getty Images

There’s no better time to honeymoon in New York City than the fall. Street cafes are bustling, rowdy sports fans crowd corner bars, golden-hued trees line every park, and the overall atmosphere is filled with anticipation and excitement as locals reconvene after summer weekends spent escaping the heat. To experience the City at its finest, head to the storied Upper East Side, where tony hotels, restaurants, shops, museums, and bars provide ample opportunity to mix-and-mingle with New York’s high-society (don’t be surprised if you spot a Real Housewife or two). This essential long-weekend itinerary blends high and low, for the best mix this chic NYC neighborhood has to offer.

NYC Honeymoon at The Surrey

Day 1

Morning
Whether arriving by plate, train, or automobile, make a beeline for 76th Street and Madison Avenue, home of The Surrey, one of the Upper East Side’s coolest boutique hotels. Upon check-in you’ll find yourself surrounded by marble floors and large-scale portraits of celebs like Kate Moss — welcome to your swanky new home. Rooms are outfitted in a cool blue-gray palette, with plush leather headboards, Sferra bedding, Pratesi Italian robes, and diptyque bath amenities. If you’re looking to splurge, there are few suites that rival those at the Surrey — from the palatial Presidential Suite (a souped-up NYC apartment you could never afford) to the 1,200-square-foot Penthouse Suite, which has access to the hotel’s private roof garden (pays for itself in Central Park views).

Evening
Places like Daniel, Sushi of Gari, the Mark, and Vaucluse are mainstays in the New York dining scene, but if you’re looking for something more low-key (and wallet-friendly), make your way to Pizza Beach, a colorful Malibu-meets-New-York pizza joint with an extensive wine list, gluten-free options, and a roasted Brussels sprout and pancetta pizza that’s to die for. If pizza’s not your thing, the restaurant’s owners also run The East Pole, a British-tavern-style eatery that had the food world abuzz when it debuted.

NYC Honeymoon Bar Pleiades

Day 2

Morning
Good news: The Surrey’s on-site restaurant is run by none other than famed French chef Daniel Boulud. No need for a reservation — or a wallet — just walk into Café Boulud, pick a table, and charge your Continental breakfast to the room. (Insider tip: If they don’t automatically suggest it, ask the waiters if you can order anything off the menu for the same price, which they often allow.) After breakfast, take a casual stroll through Central Park, peruse designer boutiques along Fifth and Madison Avenues, and check out the latest exhibitions on view at the Frick Collection, Neue Galerie, and obvs, the Costume Institute at the Met (Metropolitan Museum of Art).

Evening
Don something sequined so you’ll fit in among trendy Upper East Siders having drinks downstairs at Bar Pleiades, where head bartender Darryl D. Chan themes seasonal cocktails on regions around the world (like “Once Upon a Time in India,” a mix of gin, white vermouth, sherry kummel, green chartreuse, and celery bitters). Then, go for dinner at August, a West Village transplant that’s quickly found a loyal Upper East Side following. Expect delicious takes on classic dishes like New England Clam Chowder, Burrata, lobster rolls, and roasted organic chicken.

NYC Honeymoon Toloache

Day 3

Morning
It’s no secret New Yorkers love to brunch, so make a point to experience this essential part of City culture and reserve your table well in advance. Le Bilboquet, on 60th Street, serves up a legendary Cajun chicken and a Champagne-fueled atmosphere that will undoubtedly check the box on “party brunch among ridiculous New Yorkers.” Charge your phone beforehand, because you’ll want to Instagram the entire meal.

Evening
After a long afternoon nap, make your way around the corner to the Carlyle Hotel, a Rosewood Hotel, for cocktails at Bemelman’s Bar — the mural-filled Art Deco jazz joint that’s made appearances in Sex and the City and A Very Murray Christmas (arrive before 9 p.m. to avoid the cover charge). Afterward, get your fill of comfort foods at J.G. Melon (the cheeseburgers are otherworldly) or upscale Mexican at Toloache. Chef Julian Medina’s menu has everything from grasshopper tacos to chicken quesadillas, and even better: they deliver — dinner in bed, anyone?

Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen Went to a Seriously Fancy Wedding in France

We obviously love catching glimpses of our favorite celebrities walking down the aisle (we see you, Anna Camp and Skylar Astin!), but we love it just as much when the stars show up to weddings as just part of the crowd. This weekend we got to see Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen — along with other famous names like Karlie Kloss, Heidi Klum and Owen Wilson (who served as a groomsman!) — glam up as guests for a super glamorous wedding in the South of France.

Art collector Alberto Mugrabi, 46, married Minnie Muse fashion blogger Colby Johnson, 23, in a seriously jaw-droppingly over-the-top wedding, according to People. Mugrabi, the son of Israeli industrialist and art collector Jose Mugrabi, married his bride, who is the daughter of billionaire Chicago business mogul John W. Jordan II, at Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc in Antibes, France.

The bride’s father took every precaution to ensure that the venue “will be safer than the White House,” People reports. He had security boats around the shoreline, an anti-drone falconer and guests were asked to wear ID badges at all times and follow a ban on social media. But, lucky for us, few guests followed that last rule, giving us a gorgeous glimpse into the fancy big day.

Looking chic as ever, the Olsen twins posed for a ‘gram with two other guests. Mary-Kate, who was just recently a bride herself, wore an off-the-shoulder midi dress with a large white lapel, while Ashley wore an intricately embellished dark green gown. In the party pics below, you can spot famous groomsman Wilson, as well as Klum and Kloss looking absolutely stunning as wedding guests.

Despite her gorg guests, the bride stole the show in a Valentino Couture wedding dress with Swiss dot-embellished illusion neckline and sleeves.
