How to Extend Your Summer Tan Just in Time for Your Fall Wedding

Autumn is just around the corner, but who says your summer tan has to fade? If you’re a fall bride, you’ve probably spent most of your summer days at the beach or the pool meticulously avoiding awkward bathing suit tan lines — all in the name of that coveted golden glow to show off with your white wedding dress. And now that your big day is finally drawing near, you want to carry that sun-kissed look into fall. Since there’s nothing like dry, uneven patches and blotchiness to ruin your hard work spent in the sun, we looked to the pros for their tips on how to make your summer tan last as long as possible.

Moisturize every day.

Keeping skin soft and supple will help limit peeling and dryness often associated with sun exposure. I love Eucerin Daily Protection Moisturizing Face Lotion SPF 30 and Eucerin Daily Protection Moisturizing Body Lotion SPF 15 because they’re lightweight, fast-absorbing and provide around-the-clock hydration,” says makeup artist Suzy Gerstein. This is also the time to be ingredient conscious: “Look for moisturizers with superstar ingredients like hyaluronic acid, jojoba oil and ceramides that will restore hydration in your skin without disrupting your tan,” says makeup artist Min Min Ma.

Gently exfoliate every few days.

“Exfoliating before self-tanning is key,” says Gerstein. “But if your tan is already set in, gentle exfoliation will help slough off dry patches. Even though it may reduce the appearance of your tan, it’ll help your skin tone to look more even in the end.”

Elevate your look with bronzer.

“Build on your existing tan with St. Tropez Self-Tan Classing Bronzing Mousse. It doesn’t streak and it mimics the look of a natural tan. I like to apply it with a slightly damp Beautyblender Body.blender so it goes on evenly and really looks like a second skin. For your face, try By Terry Tea to Tan — you might be tempted to go with a bronzer with shimmer to amp up the ‘glow’ factor, but one without shimmer looks the most natural in photos,” says Gerstein. “Have a friend (or your soon-to-be spouse!) give you a hand with hard-to-reach places like the center of your back and behind your neck. A well-lit area while you’re applying your tanner will help you prevent streakiness,” says Ma.

Choose complementary makeup shades.

Flushed, rosy cheeks are a great way to make your tan (and bronzer) look realistic while brightening your look overall. If you are layering bronzer over your tan, avoid makeup colors in peach or orange as that will look too muddy. A champagne highlighter like Becca x Jaclyn Hill Champagne Collection does wonders when it’s placed in the right places: Swipe it over your cheekbones, down the center of your nose and your décolleté for an ultra-flattering glow,” says Gerstein.

Swipe on a flattering nail polish.

“Neon nails are a great way to bring out your tan and could be a really fun way for a destination bride to add a pop of color to your look. Try it on your toes if it feels too overpowering on your hands. Or, go for an opaque white nail polish (like Essie Blanc) for a striking starkness that makes your tan pop. Light pink and pale blue hues work well too and they’re appropriate year-round,” says Ma.

All The Essentials for Planning a Destination Wedding in New York's Finger Lakes Region

Finger Lakes NY Destination Wedding

For East Coast brides dreaming of an idyllic countryside backdrop for your wedding day, look no further than the Finger Lakes region in New York. If the idea of gently rolling hills, vineyards and dramatic lake views makes your heart swoon, the Finger Lakes should definitely be on your short list of destination wedding locations.

Named for its distinctive lakes that were carved by glaciers eons ago, the Finger Lakes are an impressive feat of nature: The two largest, Cayuga Lake and Seneca Lake, are hundreds of feet deep and measure nearly 40 miles in length. While May through October is prime wedding season here, the ever-present backdrop of these waterways make each season special.

“The early setting sun in the winter months lends itself to amazing candlelit sunset ceremonies,” says Heather Davidson, Director of Events at the Inns of Aurora on Cayuga Lake, one of the region’s most sought-after venues. “Some of my favorite weddings have happened just after a fresh snow, with couples brave enough to head outside for snowy photoshoots, only to come back in to enjoy hot cocoa by the fire with their guests.” A bespoke collection of historic residences that have been transformed into hotel offerings, the Inns of Aurora added Wallcourt Hall, a 1909 property, to its collection earlier this year.

Readily accessible by car, buses and flights bound for Ithaca, Rochester or Syracuse, N.Y., the Finger Lakes have long been a popular vacation destination for families, couples and group getaways — which is perfect for weddings, too.

“The Finger Lakes region truly offers something for every member of the wedding group,” says Nicole Mahoney, Regional Director of the Finger Lakes Regional Tourism Council. In addition to “outdoor activities galore,” Mahoney cites local culinary experiences; shopping and antiquing; and cultural offerings, including museums and historic landmarks, as popular year-round activities. In recent years, the region’s celebrated wine trails have inspired other self-guided foodie tours including a cheese trail, a sweet treat trail, and even several beer trails.

Home to more than 120 wineries, the Finger Lakes is one of the largest wine producing regions in the U.S. For brides interested in learning more about wineries that double as wedding and reception venues, the Finger Lakes Wine Country Tourism Association has a wedding-planning page that’s a great place to start your research. Likewise, each of the 14 communities of the Finger Lakes have their own visitor information website, which include detailed listings for local accommodations, wedding venues and so much more.

These online resources will give you a feel for the types of places that give the region its charm, but before making any big decisions, your surest bet is to spend a few days on the ground visiting prospective sites in person — you’ll know in your heart what feels right. Besides, a long weekend in the Finger Lakes, in the name of “research?” That sounds like a win-win situation.

Do I Have to Share Pictures of My Engagement Ring?

The second you start telling people you’re engaged, they’re going to want to get a look at your sparkler. After all, it’s a symbol that shows he asked and you said yes! But while letting them take a gander at your left hand in person is all well and good (and hard to avoid), do you have to post pictures of your engagement ring online or send a text so your friends and family can see it? Here’s what our experts have to say.

Just as you’re totally justified in not sharing the details, such as size or cost, of your engagement ring, you also aren’t obligated to share pictures. Sure, you might want to send one to your mom if you live far away, but when it comes to engagement ring selfies, the answer to “to post or not to post?” is up to you.

Many brides opt to share a picture of themselves with their new fiancé that might hint at an engagement ring (with their left hand delicately placed on his chest, for example) but choose to avoid the close-up picture that shows every little detail. This is a great way to share the happy news without feeling like you’re flaunting your new jewelry. Whether you’re more reserved or want to avoid unwelcome comments from distant friends you forgot you were connected with on Facebook, there’s no need to explain — simply keep the pictures to yourself, or don’t take them at all!

And what if someone asks if they can see what you’re wearing on that finger? Let them know that photos don’t do it justice, and that you’d much rather show them in person. Or, simply say you’d rather not have pictures online or sent around amongst other friends. You’ve got a right to celebrate your engagement privately, and shouldn’t feel pressured to share anything if you don’t want to!

“Welcome to Monaco,” you’ll be able to greet your guests at your glamorous black-tie wedding. No, not because you’ll be jetting off to the French Mediterranean coastline with all of your family and friends to tie the knot. (You do have a wedding budget to mind, in case you’ve forgotten!) But because of this Monaco-inspired wedding color palette, consisting of the ornate region’s deep and dramatic plums and gilded golds. After all, with its luxe nightlife, bustling casinos, and yacht-lined harbor, what bride could resist stealing a beautiful bundle of wedding ideas from über-trendy Monaco? For a black-tie affair like this, even your wedding stationary should be dressed to the nines! And if your invitations are that dressed up, your bridesmaids should of course follow suit! Choose an extravagant style for your girls to rock down the aisle. Floor-length is a given and luxe fabrics like silks, sheer tulle, and lace help elevate the elegance.

As for your own bridal style, accessorize your gorgeous gown with grandiose jewels, like these swanky-yet-dainty drop earrings by Capwell + Co. that’ll draw everyone’s eyes up to your face. And grab a bouquet featuring your color palette’s lush purple shades and dramatically dark colors. This bundle of blooms features tree peonies, black hellebores, and lilacs — we’re obsessed! The finishing touch of your wedding day look? A pair of shimmery gold bridal heels, comfy enough to wear as you dance the night away with your brand new hubby.

Josh Brolin and Kathryn Boyd Are Married! See Their Wedding Photos

Wedding bells are ringing for actor Josh Brolin and model Kathryn Boyd, because they officially tied the knot yesterday!

Brolin’s rep confirmed to People today that the couple got married yesterday, though you can follow along on social media using Brolin and Boyd’s wedding hashtag, #JBKBStuckTogether, where guests and bridal party members have been sharing photos of the bridal shower, ceremony, and reception. Our favorite photo has to be the one posted today by Brolin himself, a black and white snap (see below) of the two laughing and holding hands as they leave their reception. Brolin looked like a classic groom in a tuxedo and bow tie, while Boyd when for the simple-chic bridal look of minimal makeup, straight hair, a blinged-out bracelet, and a long, sheath wedding dress.

What’s even more adorable than this picture of the newlyweds? The caption Brolin accompanied the picture with. “Thank you to all who were involved and made the trek: friends and family alike. We love you all dearly, deeply, and without measure. JB&KB,” wrote the actor, following a poem by E.E. Cummings.

Brolin has been a very hands-on groom when it comes to wedding planning, as he told Today during an interview last year.

“I like it, it’s fun for me,” Brolin said. “I don’t know, is that wrong because I’m a man?”

Of course not! We love a groom who is all about being a part of the wedding planning process, and we’re sure it took some stress off of Boyd’s plate knowing her future hubby was willing to help out.

Boyd and Brolin started dating last February and got engaged a few months later in the spring, after Boyd spent some time as his assistant but were caught kissing during a vacation in Rome. If only all office romances ended with romantic vacations in Rome and flawless celebrity weddings!

North West Killed It As a Flower Girl in a Wedding This Weekend

Whether she’s sassing the paparazzi or sitting front row at a fashion show, North West always steals the spotlight. And this weekend was no different, as the daughter of Kim Kardashian West and Kanye West stole the show at a wedding as the most adorable flower girl of all time.

The 3-year-old reality TV heiress was the flower girl in a wedding for a friend of her famous parents on Friday, and wore a white ballgown with a huge tulle skirt and an even bigger purple bow on the back, along with a matching purple flower crown. Her cutest accessory? Two flower dogs wearing white and purple flower collars! Her mogul mama posted a photo of North and other bridal party members playing with the dogs on her Snapchat.

Later on in the evening, Kardashian posted another video of North getting down on the dance floor while a live band played a rendition of Daft Punk’s “Get Lucky”, where she added a white, furry shrug to her flower girl look.

North’s parents were not part of the wedding party, but still stunned with Kardashian in a taupe, curve-hugging dress with a plunging neck line and West wearing suit jacket with a white shirt, according to Us Weekly.

Snapchat followers got a sneak peak of the Kardashian’s outfit when she posted a video saying, “Kanye and I are going to a wedding and North is the flower girl. Hopped up for her.”

Also in attendance were North’s aunt, Kourtney Kardashian, and her cousin and best friend, Penelope Disick.

North may have stolen the show as a dog-toting, dancing flower girl, but we have to give props to whoever the bride was — she not only had a mini celebrity in her bridal party, but half of the Kardashian clan as guests. It takes guts to risk people more famous than you stealing the show!

The 8 Meditating Tricks Every Bride Should Master

No matter how laid back of a bride you may be, chances are you could use a little stress relief during the wedding planning process. Not only can it help improve concentration, communication, clarity, energy, emotional stability, creativity and relaxation, but it’s also been shown to reduce anxiety attacks and tension-related pain, such as headaches, ulcers, insomnia, and muscle and joint problems, according to Doron Libshtein, founder of Mentors Channel. So how can brides reap the benefits of meditation? From downloading apps to making mindfulness part of your daily routine, here are a bunch of tricks for tapping into the powers of the mind.

1. Take a few minutes to breathe.
Lynne Goldberg, certified meditation coach and co-founder of the OMG. I Can Meditate! app says that breathing is the simplest thing you can control to put yourself in a more relaxed state of mind. “By concentrating on your breath, you actually send a message to your brain that all is well,” she says. Her app has a progressive, time-based guided meditation series that begins with just 10 minutes a day.

2. Follow your breath.

Libshtein, founder of Mentors Channel, takes a similar approach with this simple and efficient exercise: Start by inhaling for four counts and then exhaling for eight counts. Your breath shouldn’t be strained. If it is, then do what’s comfortable for you and slowly work up to the 4-8 count. Just make sure that your exhale is longer than your inhale because lengthening the exhale is what helps to calm you down. Keep in mind that it’s normal for the mind to wander. “When you notice this happening, simply bring your attention back to the breath,” Libshtein suggests. Doing this can reduce stress levels by 30-50% in less than 5 minutes.

3. Take a tally of your stress.
Meditation expert and celebrity hypnotist Grace Smith recommends this routine for encouraging relaxation in brides: Determine what number of stress level you are; 0 is the most relaxed a person can be, whereas 10 is a full-blown panic attack. Say that number out loud. Imagine your favorite color forming at the top of your head and flowing all the way through the body and out the bottom of your feet. Keep your eyelids deeply relaxed, so relaxed that they want to stay closed no matter what. Imagine that favorite color again and say that color out loud. Running through the entire body. Repeat a powerful hypnotic affirmation. “I am safe. I am calm. I choose to be here.” Imagine your favorite color flowing through your body again. Determine a new stress-level number. Repeat if necessary.

4. Be consistent.
Better to do a quick meditation for 10 minutes every day than pack one hour into the weekend, Goldberg advises. She recommends doing meditative breathing first thing in the morning before you become distracted with so many obligations and a never-ending “to do” list. In fact, the OMG. I Can Meditate! app has a morning wake-up function so your alarm clock is a gentler, more peaceful start to the day.

5. Build your attention muscle.
Like anything in life, meditation requires practice and persistence to get the most out of it. The more you do it, the better you get at it and the more you will benefit. Goldberg says that meditating causes us to release feel-good hormones like oxytocin and serotonin. “Meditating also causes us to think more calmly through a stressful situation, so you can react with more clarity where you otherwise might not,” she adds.

6. Get your best night’s sleep.
It can’t be overstated. A good night’s sleep is so important for functioning, especially around your wedding day. “A lack of sleep changes the way you experience and feel stress. Research shows that when we are tired, we experience stress more deeply than those who are well-rested,” Goldberg says.

7. Consider technology a tool.

“It is amazing how technology has positively impacted stress management,” Libshtein says, perhaps counterintuitively. What he means is that any bride can find guided mediations online (check out mentorschannel.com for more than 2,000 options) or through apps (like OMG. I Can Meditate! and Headspace). And then there’s wearable technology, like the WellBe biofeedback bracelet that tracks your stress levels and then gives you a customized meditation, breathing and other exercises to help you calm down.

8. Accept imperfection.
Meditation is a lot like yoga in that perfection isn’t the goal, but rather maintaining an active practice. “Many people believe that successful meditation means that you have to completely clear your mind, have ‘no thoughts’ and that any sort of ‘thinking’ will block someone from completing a proper meditation. This is entirely not true,” Libshtein assures. So instead of obsessing over the end game, focus on simply quieting your thoughts by counting breaths, repeating a mantra or listening to soft calming music.

Adam Levine and Behati Prinsloo Share Adorable First Photo of New Baby Girl, Dusty Rose

Adam Levine and Behati Prinsloo Reveal Baby Name

We pardon your usual Sunday morning Instagram ritual of scrolling through everyone’s brunch photos to tell you that Behati Prinsloo and Adam Levine just shared an adorable photo of their new baby girl, and you need to see it!

The model and her husband/super-hunky lead singer of Maroon 5 welcomed their first child, Dusty Rose Levine, into the world on Wednesday. While some celebrities may wait weeks or months (or for a magazine cover) to reveal their little bundle of joy to the world, Prinsloo wasted no time, posting a photo of Dusty Rose and her husband just two days later.

The black and white photo, which you can see below, is of baby Dusty laying on Levine’s shirtless chest, putting his many tattoos on full display. The heart-warming and adorable photo is accompanied by the simple caption “Words can’t describe, Dusty Rose Levine 9/21/16” with a heart emoji.

This is the first time that fans are getting to see the couple’s first child, but Us Weekly reveals that the couple has been so excited about their new family member that they are showing her off to friends and family constantly. Gwen Stefani, a former judge on The Voice with Levine, revealed to Ellen DeGeneres while stopping by The Ellen Show last week that she has already seen Dusty Rose. DeGeneres replied that she had seen the baby, too.

“Adam actually has been FaceTiming me all day because he just had his baby. She’s so cute!” said Stefani.

“I know! I saw the baby,” replied DeGeneres. “She’s adorable. She’s cute.”

An insider also revealed to Us Weekly that everything went well for Prinsloo during the delivery and the couple could not be more excited.

“They’re a very happy couple and excited to start their family,” said the source. “I can tell you they make very beautiful babies together.”

Prinsloo and Levine got engaged in July 2013 with a 1930’s vintage engagement ring. They got married in a private ceremony in Mexico in 2014 and spent their honeymoon in South America. Dusty Rose is the first child for the couple, but we bet they won’t wait long before giving her a little brother or sister!

How’s this for dedication? Yasushi Takahashi spent six months hiking 4,451 miles through Japan — all for a totally epic (and probably super tiresome) marriage proposal. He arranged the pitstops of his travels so that the GPS coordinates would spell out “Marry Me” on the map. Imagine if she said no…

High Hopes
These two must have felt on top of the world… literally. Rossel Sabourin went to great heights to propose to his girlfriend, hiking 9,000 feet up a mountain in Banff National Park, Alberta. Awaiting the couple at the peak was champagne on ice and an engagement ring for the bride-to-be.

Triple Vision
Identical triplets Tagiane, Rocheli, and Rafaela Bini of Brazil not only share birthday, but a wedding date as well. The sisters had a joint wedding in March of 2015, marrying their three fiancés in matching wedding dresses, hairstyles, and makeup.

Orange is the New White
It was the best of times and worst of times for Israel Silva who married his bride and got sentenced to prison all in the same day. In February of 2015, District Judge Steven Cranfill officiated the groom’s marriage — and then immediately delivered his sentence for burglary and a laundry list of other crimes. The wedding venue? A courtroom room in Cody, Wyoming where the orange jumpsuit clad groom had to stay 15 feet away from the bride.

Snow Bride
What does an adventure-loving bride and groom do after tying the knot in a ski resort? Hit the slopes, of course! Bob and Maria Reiland of Cleveland, Ohio strapped on their snowboards and started shredding with their wedding guests, just minutes after saying “I do.” The best part? The bride was still in her dress!
