Head to One of New York City's Trendy Rooftop Venues for This Modern-Meets-Art Deco Wedding

It seems like just about everyone has a friend who met their husband or wife on Tinder — including New York City PR maven Lauren Kucerak. “At first, I was not a believer in the app,” she says. “But my friend talked me into it, and I let her sign me up while I was driving back from the Hamptons!” And she had a stroke of luck right away, as her now-husband, Josh Dinstein, was her very first app-matched date. “I went on a few other dates, but Josh was always at the forefront of my mind. I knew right away that I didn’t want to meet anyone else!”

In February of 2014, both Lauren and Josh had to travel to Los Angeles for work trips to. “He planned for us to go on a hike in Runyon Canyon at sunset. But he almost called it off because I was so late!” Lauren says. Thankfully, he waited, and the couple was treated to a glorious sunset — and a perfectly timed proposal! “We sat on a bench and talked and kissed, then when we got back to our hotel, the room was full of roses and rosé champagne! I had no idea he’d planned all of that.” They followed up with a delicious dinner downtown, including a cake topped with printed images of the couple, as well as some of Lauren’s favorite icons (like Michael Landon in his role from Little House on the Prairie and Sylvester Stallone as Rocky!). “It sounds weird, but I thought it was amazing!” says Lauren.

They scrapped their initial idea of a beach wedding for one that represented the city where they met and the place they call home, at The Skylark in New York City. Stefanie Cove of Yifat Oren & Associates created a modern-meets-Art Deco celebration full of punchy pink details, while Abigail Kirsch created an inventive cocktail-style reception. With Belathée Photography behind the camera, we got to peek into this couple’s glam big city wedding on July 11, 2015 — take a look at all the great details, below!

Inspired by Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy’s sleek sheath gown, Lauren chose a simple, structured wedding dress by Le Spose Di Gio. “It’s hanging in my bedroom so I can see it everyday!” Lauren says. She also revealed a snafu that, (thankfully!) was fixed in time for her walk down the aisle. “I had my first fitting less than two weeks before the wedding, and the dress was huge — not to mention completely different than the sample I’d tried on! Luckily the friend I’d brought with me made sure a new dress was ordered and delivered in time!” She paired her ivory silk gown with a delicate crystal headpiece by Ellen Hunter and a custom ivory veil. Josh wore an Armani tuxedo with a white bowtie and Ferragamo loafers.

Shades of pink added feminine softness to the couple’s city nuptials. Lauren’s bouquet combined blush garden roses, peonies, and calla lilies with ranunculus and sweet peas. Josh’s boutonniere surrounded a white spray rose with hypericum berries.

Lauren’s two favorite accessories were both of her grandmothers’ wedding bands. “I wore my maternal grandmother’s 50th anniversary band on my index finger, and my paternal grandmother’s gold band on my thumb. They were both strong, smart, and loving women who had long marriages, and I loved having both of them with me on our wedding day,” the bride says.

Instead of choosing a single gown for her bridesmaids, Lauren invited her sister, niece, sister-in-law, and 16 girlfriends to choose their own chic pink dress. Their mix-and-match looks were paired with pink bouquets of roses, proteas, and astilbe.

There was a familiar face amongst Lauren’s 19 bridesmaids: model Molly Sims!

“It was really special to walk down the aisle with both of my parents,” Lauren remembers. “They have been divorced since before I could walk, so it was a moment I’ll always cherish.”

The couple’s ceremony took place beneath a white chuppah draped in peonies, roses, astilbe, and jasmine vines. There, Lauren and Josh exchanged traditional vows. “We would have choked if we’d written our own!” she laughs. “I still cried the whole time. Our rabbi was funny and so sincere, so we didn’t need anything more.”

Finding a venue with both indoor and outdoor space was a top priority for Josh and Lauren. “Our guests got to watch the sun set over Manhattan during cocktail hour!” Lauren gushes. Architectural displays of hot pink peonies were interspersed with globes filled with hydrangeas and floating roses.

Lauren isn’t a flower pro, but thankfully one of her best friends is: Mimi Brown of Mimi Brown Studio. “I told her to make it pink and make it modern, and the final result was beyond breathtaking,” says the bride. The arrangements perfectly complemented the venue’s Art Deco aesthetic, down to the hot pink spines of the design books on display!

Four courses of passed hors d’oeuvres were a foodie’s dream, ranging from mac & cheese cupcakes and grilled lamb chops to sesame noodle salad in takeout containers and truffled mushroom risotto. “We needed options that were vegan, kosher, and gluten-free alongside normal cuisine, and our caterers were so creative with it,” says Lauren. The two signature cocktails were aptly named the Josh (pisco, Lillet, yuzu juice and simple syrup) and the Lauren (tequila, strawberry purée, lime juice, agave & cilantro).

Abigail Kirsch Catering also created the couple’s chocolate and vanilla wedding cake, decorated with blush roses and surrounded by a wreath of roses, peonies, and astilbe in shades of pink. Of course there were passed desserts, too: Salted caramel brownies, chocolate dulce de leche tarts, carrot cake bites, and freshly-baked chocolate cherry chunk cookies, to name a few!

Instead of a guest book, the couple set out Polaroid cameras throughout the venue. “My 11-year-old niece took control of the project and captured some really amazing shots,” says Lauren. Guests were encouraged to take a few snaps and pin them to cork boards, which now hang in the couple’s apartment.

Lauren danced the night away in her shimmering Jimmy Choo peep-toes. Says the bride, “I never knew how sentimental and how fun a wedding could be until it was our wedding. It was the best day of our lives!” Her favorite moment? Getting to look around the room immediately after the ceremony and see all of the people who had gathered to celebrate with the couple. “Don’t worry so much about the number of guests,” Lauren advises. “If I could do it again I wouldn’t worry about it. It’s the only time in your lives when you’ll have everyone you both love in the same room to celebrate you, so go for it!”

The Groomsmen's Oh-So Simple (Yet Super Important) To-Do List

While bridesmaids have a whole list of responsibilities, being a groomsmen sounds, er, pretty easy. Rent a suit, get dressed on time, and escort a bridesmaid down the aisle. Pretty basic, right? The job description may be simple, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t a few things the groomsmen should keep in mind before they head down the aisle. Our experts have put together a list of things groomsmen can’t forget to do — before the ceremony begins.

Check the Boutonnieres
Take a gander around the group. All boutonnieres should be on the left lapel, and should be pinned in the same orientation. For floral boutonnieres, this means the flowers pointing up, angled ever-so-slightly toward the left shoulder (running parallel to the inner edge of the lapel, where the jacket meets the shirt).

Spit Out Your Gum
You might be surprised to see the planner or venue coordinator holding out their hand for groomsmen to spit out their gum before they walk down the aisle, but it happens pretty frequently! Save the embarrassment and dispose of your gum in advance. You don’t want to be that guy with a wad of gum in his mouth in his buddy’s wedding video!

Put Down Your Phone
Not in your coat pocket, not in your back pocket. Take your phone out of your pocket and put it away — we’d recommend alongside the bridesmaids’ purses so it doesn’t get misplaced. Even the thinnest of phones will stick out in your pocket, especially in a lighter-colored suit. Empty pockets means smoother pants and jackets, which means better photos!

Perfect the Details
Make the rounds and ensure everyone’s tie is tied correctly and is straight and flat. Button your jacket, make sure it’s laying flat over your shirt, and brush off your shoulders and lapels. Then stand up straight, offer your arm to a bridesmaid, and smile!

Teen Mom Star Maci Bookout and Taylor McKinney's Wedding Album Is Ridiculously Gorgeous

On October 8th one of our fave Teen Mom stars, Maci Bookout, tied the knot with her longtime sweetheart and father of two kiddos, Taylor McKinney, in a stunning destination wedding in Greenville, Florida — and we have the ridiculously gorgeous photos to prove it! Brittany Cole of Brittany Photographs shared the stunning pictures with BRIDES, and we have to say… we’re pretty speechless.

The newlyweds said their “I do’s” in front of friends and family at Florida’s Honey Lake Resort which featured rustic-chic vibes. Before the beautiful bride headed down the aisle though, she got ready with her gal pals in some pretty adorable custom flannel shirts. Her red flannel button down sported the words “Mrs. T Money,” naturally. When the time came, Bookout slipped into her romantic Riki Dalal Haute Couture wedding dress and held a colorful bouquet of burgundy and peach peonies.

After their first kiss, the duo and all those attending headed to the reception where they found a mouthwatering dessert table that featured a single-tier cake and lots of delectable glazed donuts just waiting to be devoured. Once everyone’s bellies were full after dinner, the newlyweds danced to John Legend’s “All of Me,” consequently causing LOTS of runny mascara.

Though Bookout had her first child Bentley with ex Ryan Edwards (who was actually in attendance on her big day!) it was clear to see how totally in love she is with her new hubby. The pair got engaged back in January and recently had baby number three (McKinney’s second) before celebrating their marriage together this fall.

And look what 16 and Pregnant stars joined them on their wedding day! “It was romantic. It was beautiful,” Caitlyn Lowell told Us Weekly, after posing with the newlyweds and her husband Tyler Baltierra.

As for these cuties’ next plans, it seems like they’ll be heading to the Caribbean for a lovely week-long vacay — sans kids. “We’re going for seven nights, eight days,” Bookout told Us Weekly. “So eight days with no children and beer and a beach, it’s going to be awesome. I’d say by day five, though, we’re probably going to be missing the kids a lot! But we’ll try to enjoy it.”

Ashley Graham's Risky Wedding Outfit Is Totally Badass

Photo: Ashley Graham via Instagram

Ashley Graham is always making headlines with her gorgeous figure — but this time it was for a different reason: as a wedding guest! The body activist and model attended her sister’s wedding in a pair of leather pants, proving she’s a total badass.

The 28-year-old model attended her sister’s wedding over the weekend at Lily Lake in Rocky Mountain National Park, according to her Instagram, and while there, she wowed everyone with her bold (and laid-back) fashion choice. Graham paired her black leather pants with a black bodysuit and fur jacket — and sealed the deal with a high ponytail. In another Instagram post, she posed with a green jacket by Rag and Bone with her first name embroidered on the back, captioning the photo, “Thanks @ragandbone for my dope jacket! And thank you God for this phenomenal view!”

In another photo, the America’s Next Top Model judge was seen taking an iPhone snap of her sister and her husband in their wedding attire, which she captioned, “When your sis designates you as the official photographer! #beardNboobs (Abby’s dress is from a local Lincoln, NE boutique Ellynne Bridal, size 18/20- looking AH-MAZING!) #proudsis.” The model wore what appears to be black heels, which begs the question: How did she not sink her feet into the rough terrain of the Rocky Mountains while taking pics?

Most recently, Ashley Graham was featured as the Sports Illustrated 2016 swimsuit cover model, and she discussed her hashtag #ThickThighsSave Lives. “My thighs are thick, they are luscious, and I got made fun of them for my whole life. And now I’m being praised for my thick thighs and they have saved my life many times, and I want women to know that their thick thighs are saving their own lives,” she explained to People regarding the social media movement.

While it’s unclear if Graham was given the go-ahead by the bride to wear her risky wedding guest ensemble, it definitely breaks the mold of traditional wedding guest attire — and we’re loving it. Leave it to this ANTM star to make some wedding guest waves, showing her curvaceous figure while she’s at it. Kudos, girl — here’s to looking gorgeous and chic, and totally rocking a unique look at a wedding. See below for more photos!

Dianna Agron and Winston Marshall Are Married! Here's Everything We Know About Their Destination Wedding

Dianna Argon and Winston Marshall Are Married

Photo: Getty Images

The most gleeful news of this past weekend? Former Glee star Dianna Agron just wed her fiancé Winston Marshall in an über-romantic destination wedding on Saturday, October 15! So where did these two jet off to for their “I dos?” The actress and and the Mumford & Sons banjoist reportedly said their vows across the world in Morocco. Umm, what?! How are we already so jealous this early on Monday morning…?

Agron and her sweetheart have been smitten since the summer of 2015, when they were first spotted walking hand-in-hand in the streets of Paris. Oh la la! Then in February of this year, Agron debuted her engagement ring from her now-hubby during London Fashion Week. Marshall reportedly proposed over the holidays, gifting his girl a 4- to 6-carat diamond set in a yellow gold band. But while that sparkler was certainly something to sing about, the Glee actress kept things quite leading up to their destination wedding this weekend, totally surprising us with her “I dos.”

According to Us Weekly, Argon’s rep has confirmed that her wedding took place on Saturday, and it appears that either her bridal shower or bachelorette bash occurred just a week before, with Argon taking to Instagram to post a pic of herself and her gal pals biking around in matched robes.

And while we wait with our fingers crossed that we soon get to sneak a peek at the wedding photos, we’re busying ourselves imagining what her dreamy Moroccan venue looked like. Where on earth do you possibly honeymoon after saying “I do” at a destination like that?! But we have no fear that Argon looked just as dreamy as her big day locale. After all, this isn’t her first time down the aisle. The actress was recently a bridesmaid at a friend’s wedding, where she slayed in a nude-hued Reformation dress — so clearly this blonde beauty has bridal style down pat!

And one other thing is for sure: Argon and Marshall are definitely basking in that newlywed bliss. “He is the nicest guy and treats her like a princess,” a source shared with Us. “He is so thoughtful and flies her family everywhere they go and to see them whenever she wants. He is also so good to her friends.”

We wonder if this super groom also took on wedding band duties at the reception…

How Wedding Planners Expertly Recovered From These Wedding-Day Disasters

wedding disaster stories

Photo: Getty Images

No one wants disaster to strike on their wedding day. But if it does, you might want these planners by your side: They’ve solved everything from missing wedding rings to a wedding dress that caught fire — during the ceremony. Read on to find out how they saved the wedding day.

Forgotten Wedding Rings
“The best man forgot the rings at the hotel in the French Quarter — during Mardi Gras. He didn’t realize until I asked him about 10 minutes before the ceremony. If you’ve ever been to Mardi Gras, you know that all of the streets are blocked off and the crowd is insane. My assistant left to try and get it, but we had little hope she would make it back in time. I scanned the crowd for a man about the size of the groom and asked him to borrow his wedding ring for the ceremony. The groom knew but the bride didn’t until she was about to walk down the aisle. I told her not to panic and that the other ring was on the way. Meanwhile, my assistant ran about a mile to the hotel and was able to get them and get back to the church by the end of the mass. We had the priest bless the rings again following the ceremony with the correct rings.” — Emily Sullivan, owner of Get Polished Events

No Wedding Cake
“The biggest day-of disaster I ever encountered was when the mother of the bride forgot to pick up the cake. In all of the discussions with the bride, her mom was to pick up the cake from the bakery on her way to reception and give it to the caterer. Prior to the wedding I confirmed this was the plan. But the mother walked in with no cake. When I kindly asked her, ‘Is the cake in your car then? Do you want me to bring it in?’ her response was, ‘What cake?! I never ordered any cake!’ Cue panic in the mother of the bride. We were without a cake, or any dessert for that matter, and the ceremony was starting. I immediately called the catering company, who was scheduled to arrive during the cocktail hour. With that, I knew we had a bit of time before they left the kitchen and explained to them what happened. I pleaded with them to add some dessert bites to their truck. Thankfully, they did. Phew. No one even knew the difference! I’m sure some people wanted cake or a bit more of the sweet bites, but all in all the magic happened and the wedding went on without a hitch!” — Taylor Curley, lead wedding planner for The Simply Elegant Group

Screwed Up Seating
“As the venue coordinator, I was given 250 seating cards by the groom, who was in charge of that duty. I quickly realized the seating cards had the name of the guest but no table number. I discreetly asked the bride for her list of guests. I did not want to worry the bride nor get the groom in trouble. Thank goodness she happened to have her table arrangements on hand. Then, I enlisted a staff member to help me go through every name, find the table number and write it on the escort card. There were also guests who had escort cards but no assigned seat, so I and the caterer added seats or found empty spaces to fit the guests. No one was the wiser and the groom was very grateful for fixing his mistake.” — Jane Kernen, owner of Austin Busy Brides

A Bridesmaid Caught on Fire
“We had a bridesmaid’s long dress catch on fire when she unknowingly backed up into a candle during the ceremony. As a wedding planner, you are always on high alert during a wedding. When I smelled smoke from the back of the ceremony site, and looked up at the front, I could see that the candle was smoldering a hole right through her dress. I don’t know how many guests saw this happening, but we had to do something immediately before she went up in flames! We quickly sent one of our girls with a cup of water up behind the bridesmaid and splashed the fire before she even noticed she was on fire — the water scared her more than anything because she didn’t realize what was happening. She let out a little gasp, but the ceremony continued. After the ceremony, I first thought we might be able to stitch the hole but quickly realized it was a bit of a bigger problem. We ended up making it a tea length dress — I just cut the bottom right off. Each of the bridesmaids dresses were different so it didn’t make a huge impact, and most of the bridesmaids photos had already been taken.” — Krystel Tien Stacey, founder and owner of Couture Events

The Bride’s Transportation Broke Down
“Picture it: You are waiting with the bride’s family and groom at the beach for the arrival of the bride. Waiting, waiting, waiting — and here she finally comes, not on a regular resort golf cart but a maintenance golf cart, wearing a beautiful sequined wedding dress. The clean golf cart she started her journey on died, and the maintenance cart was all that was available. The bride still looked beautiful and she thankfully did not get dirty. But she was stomping her feet and screaming. I did the only thing I could think to do — and that was channel my inner J. Lo. I crossed the stone wall and took her by the shoulders, and I told her, ‘You are beautiful, and you are so lucky to have won the love of the man standing there waiting for you. Not everyone gets a chance like this.’ And with that, all was calm and the sunset wedding began.” — Paula Coffaro, concierge at Weddings by Funjet

A Torrential Downpour
“While this tale has a happy ending for the brides, their outdoor spring wedding included a torrential downpour. Rain had been in the forecast, but no one expected one of the worst storms of the year to hit that day — horrible. In the face of numerous challenges presented by the weather and a tight budget, we fought back with reconfigured plans, creative solutions on the fly, and the help of loving family members. The original plan was to have the wedding ceremony and cocktails outdoors in a field, with the reception in a tent. As the wedding approached, we arranged for a secondary tent for the ceremony and cocktails. When the tents were put up, there was a gap in between and a waterfall of rain came gushing down. To keep everyone dry as they moved from the ceremony to the reception, we obtained a tarp, and the father of one of the brides used a forklift and helped place it over the gap. To keep the budget down, there had been no plan for a floor to be installed for the reception. To keep the tables from sinking into the soggy grass, we propped tables and chairs on wooden blocks. Oh, did I mention the wind was so bad that one of the generators we brought in lost power in our tent? We stopped using ours so there could be power in the other tent. Fortunately, we always bring camping lights with us, and were able to operate open flame.” — Olivia Colt, owner of Salt & Honey Catering and Events

The Dos and Don'ts of Microblading Your Eyebrows for The Big Day

Brows are one of the biggest bridal beauty trends. The right shape can frame your face and bring out your best features, making you look even more fabulous in your wedding photos. Whether you dream of gorgeously groomed arches (like Chanel Iman) or full brows (à la Cara Delevigne), every bride wants brows that wow. Want to wake up the morning of your wedding — and every morning for the next year — with perfect brows? Then microblading may be for you.

While the term may sound scary, we can assure you, it’s anything but. This tattoo technique uses a special microblading pen — with tiny needles — to individually draw hair-like strokes, creating the appearance of full, natural brows. It’s fast (the procedure takes about two hours, plus a follow-up appointment), precise and semi-permanent. And unlike eyebrow extensions, microblading is relatively low-maintenance. All you need is a touch-up once a year. Sounds pretty awesome, right?

We spoke with NYC-based microblading expert Piret Aava, a.k.a. the Eyebrow Doctor, to get the dos and don’ts of microblading for your big day. Here’s what you need to know:

Microblading Dos

1. DO Your Research
“Not all microblading technicians know what they are doing. Just because someone may have taken a two day course doesn’t make them a pro.” She suggests looking for someone with experience, stellar reviews and a ton of before and after pictures to prove it. “Make sure they also have images of healed brows to show the final result.”

2. DO Bring Images of Brows You Like
Just like you bring pictures of your favorite wedding makeup and hair looks for inspiration, you should do the same for your brows. Come armed with pictures to show your technician how you want your brows to look. The more you give your tech to work with, the better the outcome.

3. DO Prep Before Your Appointment
Proper prep is key. Aava suggests avoiding alcohol and blood thinners, like aspirin, at least 24 hours prior your appointment — and skipping your faux glow before (and after). “You should also refrain from plucking, tweezing and waxing brows before your appointment.”

4. DO Communicate With Your Technician
“Your technician is not a mind reader,” Aava explains. Make sure to discuss your desired outcome prior to the start of the procedure. “If you aren’t happy with the shape or color, you have to be vocal about it…or you will wind up being unhappy.” The bottom line: speak now or forever hold your peace (or at least for the next 12 months).

5. DO Follow the Aftercare Advice
Just as with any treatment or procedure, you need to take special care after. Aava suggests applying ointment on your brows for about a week after to promote healing. Keep your newly microbladed brows clean (don’t touch with dirty fingers) and dry (apply vaseline prior to showering or washing your face) for one week after treatment. After 10 days, you can start using a gentle, fragrance-free cleanser and moisturizer (or coconut oil). But steer clear of makeup for at least two weeks, as this can interfere with the healing and even the color of your brows.

Microblading Don’ts

1. DON’T Be Cheap
This is not the time to pinch pennies or go for a Groupon. “You get what you pay for,” explains Aava. “Your brows are in the middle of your face, so there’s no hiding a hack job.”

2. DON’T Be Scared if Brows are Darker at First
The tattooed area will appear slightly darker for a couple of weeks. “Don’t worry, that’s part of the healing process,” assures Aava.

3. DON’T Rush the Healing Process
Speaking of, don’t rush the healing process, which can take four to six weeks. Some post-procedure swelling and redness may occur, but this usually goes away within 48 hours. As your brows heal, you may experience some dryness or minor scabbing. Don’t pick, scratch or scrub. This can cause scarring and mess with pigment. To ensure your brows look their best by your big day, Aava suggests booking an appointment six to eight weeks before your wedding day.

4. DON’T Be Unrealistic About the Results
Don’t forget microblading is a tattoo and your skin and face shape are the variables. Even though the hair strokes look very realistic, your individual results will depend on your skin type, face shape and how your skin heals. “The dryer your skin, the sharper your brows heal. If your complexion is oily, the hair strokes will tend to blur more.” The phrase “sisters, not twins” is often used to describe brows. That’s because no one’s face is perfectly symmetrical. “At the end of the day, microblading enhances your appearance, but it isn’t plastic surgery,” says Aava.

5. DON’T Skip Your Follow-Up Appointment
Microblading is a two step process. “Clients should come back four to six weeks after the initial treatment to fill any gaps and make any necessary color adjustments.”
