Every bride-to-be who considers herself an “Indie bride” no doubt has Lovely Bride on their radar. We had the chance to sit down with Lovely Bride founder Lanie List after the recent Bridal Fashion Week and she gave us a glimpse into what the cool girl brides will be wearing come 2017. Lanie’s love for swoon-worthy gowns and discovering the latest “It” wedding dress designer is no secret, and she shared her 3 favorite wedding dress trends with us, and the dresses that made them special.

“There was so much that felt new and fresh to us this October,” List said. “Perhaps it was the chill that took over the city on Saturday, but we were excited to see some coverage that felt romantic and ethereal.” Here, List’s top 3 trends and favorite wedding dresses from the Bridal Fashion Week runways — as seen through her own personal lens.

Long Blouson Sleeves
“With daring necklines and illusion fabrics, these long sleeve options didn’t feel stuffy or costume-like,” List told us.

Hayley Paige — “This gown would be stunning for a candlelight evening wedding.”

Chosen by One Day — “The new line from Australia has a sophistication but the airiness of the fabric would still be appropriate for an ‘I Do’ at Horseshoe Bend (a new wedding hot spot in the Grand Canyon).”

Sarah Seven — Sarah’s sensibility is fun and spot-on-trend, and we can totally see this bride in Palm Springs with bright red sunglasses on her wedding day.

High Neck Lines
“An ode to the 90’s, the high neckline, whether in a racer style or full turtleneck, looked so sexy, not frumpy, as it once did when I was a kid,” List added.

Limor Rosen — “This floral gown would look amazing on a bride dancing in the fields.”

Watters — “I love this high neck as an overpiece, so you can register that cool trend in your art gallery wedding then remove it to get rowdy on the dance floor.”

Tara Lauren — “This racer style is great for an athletic-built beauty. I can definitely see her sipping champagne on a beautiful boat.

Off-the-shoulder Gowns
“So elegant and chic, these portrait necklines really bring attention to your face.”

Theia — “City Hall then to her dinner party, this dress is totally for an elegant nighttime wedding.”

Chosen by One Day — “The balance of the sophisticated top and the sheer skirt makes us think of an an Italian beauty carrying her bouquet through windy cobblestone streets in the Cinque Terre.”

Leanne Marshall — “This bride is ready for a fiesta. She is probably doing tequila shots with her groom immediately after their ‘I dos’.”

Tom Hanks Reveals His Secret to a Conflict-Free Marriage to Rita Wilson

While 2016 seems to have been the year of celebrity breakups, if there’s one celebrity couple we can count on to bring us hope, it’s Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson. Recently, the actor opened up about why their marriage of 28 years is so effortless and doesn’t need any work — even with two kids and a recent battle with cancer.

The Sully star, 60, shared his thoughts on his 59-year-old wife and their relationship with The Spec while on the red carpet at his Lifetime Achievement Award Ceremony in Rome, Italy. “People say, ‘Jeez, it must be hard to stay married in show business. I think it’s hard to stay married anywhere, but if you marry the right person, it might work out. We give each other a natural sense of support for whatever the other wants to pursue. Our marriage doesn’t require vast work. We have been married 28 years and dig each other a lot.” Cue the heart eyes emojis, for reals.

The actor and actress duo actually met in high school, but they didn’t end up dating until years later. “I still can’t believe we were in high school together and I wouldn’t have had the guts to talk to Rita Wilson and she has finally confessed she wouldn’t have given me the time of day if I had,” he told the Sunday Mirror newspaper. But, as luck would have it — he took that chance and asked his leading on a date. And the rest, as they say, is history.

“So we got married; we didn’t do it lightly, knew what we were doing, and there’s just no doubt she was the person for me. I dig her, and she puts up with me, so good enough.”

In April of 2015, Wilson was diagnosed with breast cancer and had a double mastectomy, a time when her hubs was by her side 24/7. Luckily she is now cancer-free and didn’t need radiation or chemotherapy. “You never know how your spouse is going to react in a situation like this,” Wilson told the New York Times. “I was so amazed, so blown away by the care my husband gave me* who knew it would make you even closer?”

Hanks’ response? “All I can do is bow down before the courage of my wife.”

6 Women on What Saved Their Marriage From Divorce

What Rescued Marriages from Divorce

Marriage is a beautiful thing — but it can also be a challenging experience — one that requires work and commitment. To save you from the minor (and major) pitfalls of it all as you embark on the most amazing journey of your lives, six women share their stories of how they turned their marriages around when all seemed lost.

“We took a marital time out, putting lots of distance between us. I moved to Oklahoma and my husband stayed in Panama where he was stationed with the military. This space gave us both time to think and re-evaluate our relationship. After a little over two years the love was still there. Today after 43 years of marriage we are stronger than ever. That time-out saved our marriage.” —Carol

“I need a full eight hours of sleep or I can’t function. My husband is a terrible snorer. This created horrible fights between us to the point that I brought up the word ‘divorce.’ That shocked us both that the problem had become so serious. We didn’t want to sleep apart so my husband got a little device called mu:te and it made all the difference.” —Amy

“In June 2014, after 10 years of marriage and two children we filed for divorce. It was awful. We’d been having issues for years but stayed together for the kids. But filing and going through lawyers, court dates, splitting of finances — it was awful, especially since I’d recently lost my job. I began begging family members for money. It was so embarrassing. I made the decision that financially it was better to stay with my husband, go to school, get a nursing job and leave when I was financially ready. Two years later we are the happiest we’ve ever been. What saved us? I believe he got a glimpse of me being serious about leaving him if he didn’t change. I had said it many times before but he never changed. He has now — I also now praise him as often as possible. He deserves the praise!” —Uzo

“After a few decades and seven children I was exhausted and angry from my husband’s do nothing attitude. And I was very tired of picking up after the kids. This led to a weeklong strike where I did not perform any household chores. I made everyone sign a contract that they would help. Now the chore equation in the marriage feels equal.” —Sherri

“We had a big lack of empathy problem. Our last ditch effort to save the marriage was to go to therapy. She gave us a homework assignment: ‘Walk a Mile in the Other Person’s Moccasins.’ That is, I wrote a letter imagining I was my husband having to deal with me as a spouse. He wrote a letter putting himself in my position being married to him. Sharing the letter at the next session was revelatory. It started an ongoing conversation between the two of us. We now make an effort to constantly put ourselves in the other’s headspace. There is always another way to look at something!” —Beth

After six years together we had an airless relationship. We existed in the same household and worked together on keeping our daughter happy but we had forgotten that at the core we were a unit. My husband came home one day and asked, ‘Do you remember the last time we had fun together?’ It was an eye-opening question. Now we have a pact: Twice a month, we get a babysitter and do something truly energizing — rock climbing, gallery openings, whatever. The point is we must always make time for marital adventures!” —Jenny

What Your Zodiac Sign Says About Your Wedding Planning Style

Victoria and Richard's Formal Chicago Wedding, Couple

Photo: Angela Shae

Are you the type of bride who loves control but really needs to learn how to let go? Or are you more the laid back, “I’d rather hire someone else to help with all the details” kind of wedding planner? Astrologer Suzie Kerr Wright breaks down your basic wedding planning style based on your zodiac sign.

Aries (March 21 – April 19)
With your “get it done” temperament, you’re the type of wedding planner who loves to be in charge! You’ll have to learn to trust your bridesmaids and vendors to handle the details or you might find yourself yelling at the caterer (that famous Aries temper!) when you should be walking down the aisle.

Taurus (April 20 – May 20)
Taurus weddings can either be very simple or some of the most luxurious affairs ever. Your attention to detail and desire for the best of the best will guarantee a perfect day but can also cause major stress if things don’t go exactly as planned and that Taurus, slow boiling temper can erupt. Remember that everyone is on your side and doing the best they can.

Gemini (May 21 – June 20)
You have no problem putting together a wedding in a short amount of time because your priority is bringing everyone together, no matter how or where. If your wedding is massive, you’ll have no issue hiring others to handle those pesky details either while you enjoy the festivities with your friends and family. Gemini weddings are definitely the ones that have hilarious moments you see on YouTube with great dancing and lots of memorable LOLs in the best way possible.

Cancer (June 21 – July 22)
Wedding planning for Cancers can be problematic with worrying about who gets along with who and whether or not you’ll have enough food (Cancers love to feed). You can easily get distracted from the beauty and joy of planning the event because of your desire to make everyone feel comfortable. Let family and friends handle many of those tasks, as they know you well enough to ensure a perfect day.

Leo (July 23 – August 22)
You can bet your wedding will definitely be done in a grand style! Your planning challenge is to keep it in on budget though and to be open to other ideas if what you want is just not humanly possible. Your wedding day should be perfect, but watch out for that lion’s roar if something isn’t just right.

Virgo (August 23 – September 22)
Best wedding planner ever! Okay, maybe that’s an exaggeration. As you know, details are no problem for a Virgo. You could do the entire event yourself. But don’t. This is your day and your best bet would be to find the top of the line, most meticulous wedding planner, give them all your instructions and let it go. And try not to change your mind too many times either.

Libra (September 23 – October 22)
Fairytale weddings and Libra go hand in hand. “As long as it’s beautiful” is your mantra. Libras can make wedding planning a super fun event for everyone involved, as they love to share their ideas. They also love to make connections with vendors and let others know when they get great service. Libras like to bring folks together so the event could get very big, very fast.

Scorpio (October 23 – November 21)
Planning your wedding can be a mystical experience because you are so fond of the exotic. But don’t keep all the info in your head. At some point, you’ll need to find at least one person to let in on your secrets and surprises for your guests. You’ll want to control it all, but don’t forget that mere mortals will be involved so be careful with your Scorpio stinger if they fall short of your expectations. Remember what the day is really about.

Sagittarius (November 22 – December 21)
You’re a blast to plan a wedding with. Your ideas are outrageous and everyone will want to get involved in making them happen! Sagittarians aren’t known for being detail oriented so hire a reliable Virgo wedding planner and all you’ll need to do is book your plane tickets. You’re the one most likely to have a destination wedding.

Capricorn (December 22 – January 19)
You’re a natural born leader. Your wedding will be traditional and elegant and will all be laid out in the perfect order by precisely the perfect people. You know how to suss out the best of the best. You’ve no doubt been planning this for years and have had a file with all the best wedding vendors in it tucked away (but updated yearly) for a long time. No worries here.

Aquarius (January 20 – February 18)
Aquarian weddings are so fun! Your offbeat style is reflected in everything you do. You can, however, get a bit obsessive over all of it so turn that energy toward making your own decorations, designing your own invitations or using your creativity to enhance the event. Like Sag, your friends will also be eager to help; they’ve never seen such a unique event.

Pisces (February 19 – March 20)
Planning a wedding with a Pisces is like drifting off into a beautiful fantasy. However, not everyone will be able to see what’s in your mind. Even if you can literally paint the picture of how it should all look, it still has to have some basis in reality so be willing to compromise here and there. It will no doubt have every element of a fairytale and the most important thing is you get to live happily ever after when all the cake has been eaten and the last dance has been danced.

Dancing With the Stars' Emma Slater Spills All the Details on Her Upcoming Wedding to Sasha Farber

Sasha Farber and Emma Slater

She may have just slipped on the ring, but Dancing with the Stars pro Emma Slater is already dancing into wedding planning. Just a little over a week ago, Slater’s fellow dancer Sasha Farber dropped to one knee and proposed right on the ballroom floor during the live filming of DWTS. But Slater is in for the running for the disco ball trophy of productive brides-to-be. The woman seemingly has all of her big day plans on lockdown — and she’s spilling MAJOR deets!

Slater was seemingly still happily high on that post popped question bliss when she chatted with Entertainment Tonight and dropped all the details of her upcoming nuptials to Faber, which she apparently already has all planned out. (Phew! Must have been a busy week for the professional dancer…) Her number one must-have on the big day? “A pickleback! It’s very popular in Russian culture,” said Slater, referencing her hubby-to-be’s heritage.

Okay, so vodka: Check! Any other big day necessities for this bride? A star-studded bridal party, of course! Slater promised that we’ll be seeing some familiar faces donning bridesmaid dresses and walking her down the aisle, including their DWTS co-stars Lindsay Arnold, Brittany Cherry, Witney Carson, Jenna Johnson, and Hayley Erbert. Can you say score? And in the most fitting twist we can imagine for this too-cute couple, Slater wants DWTS host Tom Bergeron to officiate their I do’s. “[Tom] will do the best job,” she said. “Tom Bergeron is going to be the best person to marry us.” He proclaims the winner of the hit show, after all, so who better to proclaim them husband and wife?

So when is all of this going down? Right now it looks Slater and Farber’s big day is slated for 2017, with the bride wanting to be engaged for at least a year, although 2018 “just feels so far away.” As for the venue, Slater is envisioning a woodsy environment. “[It will be] casual, yeah, I want it to be a party more than anything,” she explained. “I want everybody to be there and I don’t want it to be like, ‘stressful bridezilla, oh my god, she’s a nightmare.’ I want to be happy and to turn up and for everyone to be smiling and be partying.”

And like any bride-to-be, Slater is already dreaming of the perfect wedding dress. “I would like, I think, fitted but lace traditional,” she said. “I don’t want to give away too much, but I definitely want to do not too sexy. Tasteful — tasteful elegance I’ll say.”

Sounds like the perfect frock to get down in during her sure-to-be amazing first dance with her pirouetting fiancé — although, these two haven’t yet decided if they’ll perform a fully choreographed number on the big day. “We haven’t even talked about that [yet],” Slater said. “You know, it’s funny, I don’t think that we will [perform]. And if we do, it’s not going to be like [serious] — it’s going to be cheesy.”

No matter what, we’ll sure it’ll score perfect tens from us!

5 Halloween Costume Ideas Perfect for Brides-to-Be

bride-themed-halloween-costumes.jpg

Photo: Getty Images

Here comes…The Bride of Chucky! Halloween is one of our absolute favorite holidays and for very good reason too (hello, free candy). Not to mention, you can be anything you want to be and the options are literally endless. Because we’re obviously all about weddings over here though, we figured some brides might want to go as actual brides, well, with a scary twist, that is. From Tim Burton’s Corpse Bride to the Bride of Frankenstein, here are five Halloween costume ideas that are perfect for you and your boo.

corpse bride gif

1. Tim Burton’s Corpse Bride
Instead of trashing your wedding dress, why not have it hand dyed blue (along with your veil) for Halloween instead? Pricy, yes, but boy would it be scary cool as Tim Burton’s Corpse Bride! Or you can always purchase a vintage wedding dress at a thrift store on the cheap to create the perfect costume. Of course, this ensemble wouldn’t be complete without a blue wig and an incredible makeup job too. We recommend Googling professional tutorials (there’s a ton out there) to see how to get the face paint just right. Top off your look with a floral crown and you’re ready to roll.

bride of chucky gif

2. Bride of Chucky
If you’re married to a redhead, you’ve definitely got to try this creepy costume idea! Naturally, your man will go as Chucky. There’s no need to have red hair, as colored hairspray or a wig works just fine, along with some denim overalls, a little “blood” and makeup magic to create those ugly face scars. As for you, a little white (or long dress) with a black motorcycle leather jacket, blonde wig and goth makeup (think black lips) will get the job done. Big fake eyelashes are also a must and a cigarette tucked behind the ear will totally take it up a notch.

bride of frankenstein gif

3. Bride of Frankenstein
Use your own wedding dress if it somewhat fits the bill or shop thrift stores for a long white flowing gown that definitely works. The key to pulling off this creepy bride costume though, in our opinion, is more about the hair (okay, mostly the hair) and the makeup. If you feel comfortable doing it yourself, backcomb your locks into a big voluminous ‘do and use a colored hairspray to get those famous white streaks on both sides. Look up makeup tutorials to complete your look, and you’re all done. If you suck at hair, book an appointment with a stylist to make sure it’s on point for your costume!

4. The Princess Bride
If you’re looking for something a little less scary and more fairy tale-esque, not to mention ridiculously comfortable too, we suggest going as Princess Buttercup and getting your guy to be her one true love Westley, because duh! All you need is a long sleeve red maxi dress and glittery gold belt for yourself and an all black ensemble with a matching eye mask, headscarf and boots for him. Done and done! And so easy to pull together last minute too.

zombie bride gif

5. Zombie Bride
And of course your guy will be your zombie groom. Again, if you don’t mind “trashing” your dress (assuming you’re already hitched), you can easily use your own to create the costume. Have your guy pull out an old suit he never wears to get the look. From there, you’ll need some fake blood splattered all over the both of you, a bouquet, white face paint/makeup to make yourself look dead and white hairspray for added effect. Feel free to get creative to create your own unique zombie bride and groom look.

5 Bachelorette Party Games Your Girls Will Actually Want to Play

bachelorette-party-games-girls-love.jpg

Photo: Getty Images

It’s the freaking bachelorette weekend and you’re about to have you some fun. One way to get the party started off right is with cocktails, of course, followed by a fun game or two to help loosen up the group. Because not all bachelorette party games were created equal though, here are five that your girls are guaranteed to love. Let the games begin!

1. The Newlywed Game
It’s a game we all love to watch total strangers play so it’s even more fun when you know the couple involved! Have the bachelorette party host email the groom a list of questions beforehand (even better, get his responses on video to play for the group later), such as, “What’s your favorite part of her body?” or “What article of clothing do you really wish she’d throw away?” Feel free to keep it as PG or R-rated as everyone involved is comfortable with, then have the bride guess what her guy answered for each one. If she’s right, everyone else takes a sip of their drinks and if she’s wrong, she takes a sip of her drink. If you got the answers on video, play each one back for the crowd to get a kick out of.

Another option is to play this game with all the girls in attendance. So have each girl answer questions beforehand, like their funniest memory with the bride, then someone reads the answer out load at random and the bride has to pick the person who said it.

2. A Scavenger Hunt
The perfect game for a night on the town! The good news is, there are tons of sites you can instantly download pre-made bachelorette party scavenger hunt lists full of fun “dares” to be captured on camera throughout the evening. Etsy is our go-to for loads of options (some quite crazy and others more tame depending on the vibe you’re going for).

3. The “Drink If” Game
This one is similar to the concept of “Never Have I Ever” except, well, different! Basically, you have a healthy list of Drink Ifs written down that will get passed around. Each girl reads off one line and if that line applies to you, then you drink. Then the card gets passed. Some example of fun Drink Ifs include, if you’ve know the bride for x amount of years, if you’ve gone to the couple’s honeymoon destination, if you’ve hooked up with a guy who has the same name as the groom (okay avoid that one if one of the other girls has hooked up with the groom at any time in the past LOL), etc. etc. You can make up your own Drink Ifs or download pre-made lists too.

4. Sculpt The Cucumber Into a Penis
Or you can use zucchini, whatever works! Basically put a tablecloth down on the table and pass out a bunch of random tools, like a plastic knife, vegetable peeler, etc., to each girl to carve out the perfect cucumber or zucchini penis. Set a timer and each 15 (or 30) seconds that passes, each girl passes her given tool to the left. Once all the tools have been passed and the total time is up, everyone votes to see who has the most realistic looking penis.

5. A Panty Party
If the panties fit, right? For this game, each girl on the guest list should bring a pair of unwrapped panties for the bride that is reflective of her own personality. All the panties get hung on a clothesline type thing (or however you can manage it) and the bride has to guess which girl gave her which pair of panties. Like always, you can choose to turn this into a drinking game if you like! It’s a fun way to shower the bride and get some good laughs at the same time.

Off Season Honeymoon Hotspots in the Caribbean & Mexico

Off Season Honeymoon Destinations

Photo: Getty Images

Not a fan of crowded beaches? Plan an off season beach honeymoon when flights and hotels start lowering fares, meaning you can snag much better deals and that gorgeous villa or Jacuzzi tub suite at a fraction of the price. And don’t think low season means rain showers and potential hurricanes. There’s plenty of spots sitting outside the hurricane belt — or even tucked inland — that make for just as idyllic of a honeymoon destination come May as they do during the height of season in December. Here are five super romantic locales that serve as the perfect couple’s retreat year-round.

Off Season Honeymoon in Zihuatanejo Mexico

Zihuatanejo, Mexico
While the rainy season here runs from late-June through September, you’ll only really have to worry about a downpour come nightfall. The former fishing village southwest of Mexico City on Guerrero’s coastline is part of the Golden Pacific on the Mexican Riviera. Beaches are known for drawing more surfers than swimmers since they’re on the rougher side, but the highlight here isn’t the sandy shore — it’s the view. The bay is lined with a number of charming boutique hotels that are a dream for honeymooners. Perch up in one of these tucked-away sanctuaries like La Casa Que Canta, with 25 adobe brick suites and two villas sitting above the bay just a few minutes from beach.

Off Season Honeymoon in Mexico City

Mexico City, Mexico
Surrounded by mountains on three sides, Mexico City’s weather varies due to its altitude but honeymooners can count on a rather cool climate year-round. If you visit the capital in April and May, you’ll experience the city in its warmer months, with temperatures still hovering in the 70s, meaning perfect weather for strolling the sprawling neighborhoods. Wander through weekly markets like El Bazaar Sábado, San Angel’s Saturday artisan market, and be sure to make a trip out to the Xochimilco neighborhood, known for its floating gardens and colorful gondola-style barges.

Off Season Honeymoon in Playa del Carmen

Playa del Carmen, Mexico
Low season kicks off just after Easter, so make your way to the beach destination before the rainy season starts in May. Set in the center of Riviera Maya, you’ll be right near the shopping and nightlife of Quinta Avenida, or Fifth Avenue, and less than an hour from the ancient Mayan city of Tulum, where you can tour the cliffside ruins that overlook the Caribbean. From Playa del Carmen, you’re also just a quick ferry ride away from the island of Cozumel, an ideal day trip for snorkeling the reefs just offshore.

Aruba
Thanks to its dry climate and location just outside of the hurricane belt, Aruba boasts more days of sunshine than any other spot in the Caribbean, as well as temperatures hovering around 82 degrees. Spend your days kayaking or snorkeling off the southern side of the island, or explore Aruba’s desert-style plains by horseback. When you’re ready to sit back and relax with your other half, indulge in a spa treatment in an atmosphere just as exotic, from a beachside bamboo cabana to a set-up on a private island.
