Ryan Reynolds Had the Funniest Reaction to Being Asked For Marriage Advice

If you’re wondering what makes a marriage work, we would recommend not asking Ryan Reynolds. The Deadpool star, who has been with Gossip Girl wife Blake Lively for four years (and counting!), hilariously shut a fan down on Twitter when he came to the actor for marriage advice before walking down the aisle himself. Twitter user Dirk van Graver asked the celeb, “@VancityReynolds I’m getting married this Saturday. Perhaps misguidedly, I’m seeking celebrity advice on how to keep happy wife/life. Ideas?”

Reynolds, being the comedian he is (seriously, just take a look at his LOL-worthy tweets about his daughter and TRY not to crack up), responded with a curt, “You’ve come to the right place, Dirk. Celebrities are the gold standard for relationship advice.”

And after news broke about Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s divorce, we totally get where he’s coming from. But even so, have you ever SEEN the way Reynolds looks at his smokeshow of a wife? We have a feeling that’s a look that’s made to last.

No marriage is without its hardships though. Lively revealed in June that she has found it pretty difficult to watch his latest flick Deadpool — where he gets majorly intimate with another woman, aaand which just so happened to be showing on pretty much every airplane. “It’s a cruel and unusual form of torture,” she told The Tonight Show. “And then my daughter goes, ‘Dada!’ and she starts hugging and kissing the screen and waving at him, and he’s not waving back. She thinks it’s like FaceTime. And it’s because Daddy’s getting it.”

The Cafeé Society actress recently gave birth to baby number two in late September, and of course (like a complete mom boss) she attended a wedding two days later. We’d say Reynolds’ advice to the man on Twitter should have been, “Find yourself a Blake Lively.” Wouldn’t you agree?!

One Bride Stayed True to Her Texas Roots When Planning This Rustic Ranch Wedding

When Marina Lodato arrived home from work on October 24, 2014, she expected to see her boyfriend waiting for her in their apartment in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Instead, she walked in and found a gorgeous bouquet of flowers with a card that told her to go straight to the roof of the building, where she found Patrick Paccione down on one knee.

The couple gave themselves about a year to plan for their September 7, 2015, wedding at Texas Ranch Life in Chappell Hill, Texas. “The landscape and setting was exactly what I had envisioned for our day,” Marina says. With help from a day-of coordinator from Keaton Events, this couple pulled off a classic Texas celebration full of romantic details that honored the bride’s Southern roots. You’ll fall in love with this couple’s charming day, as captured by Sharon Nicole Photography.

Marina works in fashion and knew she wanted to make an elegant, statement-making dress for her wedding day. After trying on around 30 gowns, the bride found her Vera Wang A-line wedding dress with lace trim detailing and ivory and nude tulle. “I know it sounds cheesy, but I truly felt like a princess,” she says. Complete with an open-back and soft, flowing waves that were accented with fresh flowers, Marina’s look was perfect for a romantic outdoor wedding.

In an effort to keep her accessories minimal, the bride wore crystal drop earrings, a vintage amethyst ring from her great grandmother, and Oscar de la Renta navy heels. Her all-white bouquet of anemones, ranunculus, peonies, and Queen Anne’s lace was a beautiful finishing touch.

Patrick chose a classic navy suit for his wedding day attire. His boutonniere was made of white ranunculus and seeded eucalyptus wrapped in twine.

The old adage “Everything is bigger in Texas” rings true here. This couple had a huge bridal party, which clocked in at 20 attendants! The group was made up of the bride’s matron of honor, eight bridesmaids, and one “bridesman,” and the groom’s two best men and eight groomsmen. The ladies wore chiffon J.Crew gowns paired, while Marina’s male bridesmaid wore a Calvin Klein charcoal suit with a rose-colored bow tie. Each ‘maid carried a romantic bouquet of blush peonies, ranunculus, and dusty miller.

Patrick’s groomsmen all wore slim fit navy suits with a Calvin Klein gray linen tie.

The couple’s outdoor ceremony was held on the ranch’s lawn, where an aisle with galvanized buckets of baby’s breath faced a 30-foot altar of trailing greenery. “I was very involved in picking every little detail,” the bride says. “It was overwhelming at times, but I plan events for a living so it was also second nature.”

In keeping with the charming vibe of their outdoor venue, Marina and Patrick chose wicker chairs for their guests to sit in. The pair also created a custom wedding logo with their initials around a star that was stamped on each ceremony program.

The flower girl, Evelyn, started the ceremony by walking down the aisle in a voluminous tulle dress and a baby’s breath crown. Two of the couple’s nephews served as ring bearers, dressed in navy pants and suspenders and adorable cowboy boots. They even carried a homemade wooden sign down the aisle that read “Uncle Patrick, here comes your girl!”

Marina’s father walked her down the aisle covered in blush colored rose petals. Then, the couple shared personalized readings and exchanged traditional wedding vows. Once they were pronounced husband and wife, the newlyweds made their exit to music performed by two local guitarists.

The party started in the venue’s main hall where guests took in a stunning 360-degree view of the ranch through floor to ceiling windows. Marina and Patrick made their grand entrance as husband and wife as Beyonce‘s “Love On Top” played to kick off the celebration. Then, everyone found their seats with help from a chalkboard sign designed with the couple’s custom logo.

Despite having a clear vision of what they wanted their wedding would look like, Marina says planning from afar wasn’t always easy for her and Patrick. The duo made six trips back and forth from their home in New York City to Houston to meet with vendors. During those visits, she and Patrick decided on a color scheme of midnight navy, charcoal gray, and dusty rose, along with accents of whites and creams.

Reception tables were topped with vintage embroidered linens and featured rustic wooden centerpieces made from an assortment of hydrangeas, ranunculus, dahlias, seeded eucalyptus, Queen Anne’s lace, and dusty miller. Table settings were topped with cookies.

Signature cocktails were inspired by two locations that are incredibly meaningful to the newlyweds — Texas, where the bride grew up, and New York City, where they met and live together. Guests who chose “The Cowboy” enjoyed a spicy margarita, while those who chose “The Yankee” sipped on the couple’s take on a Manhattan.

Marina and Patrick wanted to serve their favorite cuisine — Tex-Mex — for dinner. Cilantro lime shrimp, ceviche, and quesadillas pleases everyone during cocktail hour. Then, food stations like a guacamole and make-your-own fajita bar gave friends and family an interactive meal option.

For dessert, Texas-staple Blue Bell ice cream was served up alongside the couple’s three-tiered almond cake with dulce de leche and strawberry filling.

Marina and Patrick shared their first dance to Keith Urban’s “Making Memories of Us,” and then joined their guests on the dance floor for a night full of entertainment. “My DJ was fantastic and there was never a dull moment on the dance floor,” Marina remembers.

The newlyweds kicked off an incredible two-week honeymoon in Bankgkok, later traveling to the Thai cities of Chiang Mai, Koh Samui, and Krabi.

When Should I Have My Hair and Makeup Trials?

make sure hair and makeup artists get paid

Photo: Landon Jacob

One of the first times you get to see how things will really look on your wedding day is during your hair and makeup trials. Sure, you’ll have time to tweak and adjust, but you’ll also walk out of the salon looking like, well, a bride! As with many other details for your wedding, timing your trial correctly is key. So when should you get it on the calendar? Our experts have some advice that should help you figure it out.

There are a few things you need to do before you book your hair and makeup trials. The first is to have a date and a venue. Seems obvious, right? Knowing when and where you’ll be getting married can impact the styles you’re considering, whether it’s on the beach in the heat of summer or in a ballroom in winter. You should also have selected your wedding dress and begun to shop for accessories, from headpieces and a veil to your earrings and necklace. Knowing the style of your dress will also influence how formal or relaxed your hair and makeup styles will be, and the accessories can play into whether you’re wearing your hair up or down, looking for curls or a braid, or going soft or dramatic with your makeup.

Most hair and makeup artists recommend doing your trials a few months before the wedding, but not much farther in advance. You’ll want enough details planned so you can make an informed decision about what you want and what you do and don’t like, but should also leave time to do a second trial if necessary.

If you can, arrange to have your hair and makeup trials the same day you’re taking your engagement pictures, or the afternoon before a wedding-related event like an engagement party or shower. This way you’ll have something fun to do with your makeup and hair done, and will have a chance to get input from your trusted friends and family members if you need it. Worried about wandering around with an updo and crystals in your hair? When you’re booking your appointment, ask your stylist if they can schedule a little extra time to take your style out and make it more appropriate for where you’ll be headed. And of course, if possible, have your makeup and hair trials on the same day to see how they’ll look together!

This Couple's First Dance Performance is Making Star Wars Fans Go Nuts

A choreographed dance at a wedding is always welcome, but when it involves Beyoncé and real life stormtroopers, you know it’s going to be good. That’s exactly what happened at Kathryn Holloway and Phillip Wood’s wedding, and it was definitely a sight to see.

The British couple of honor who tied the knot in Granada, Spain knew that they wanted a show (and a Star Wars tribute) during their reception, so they asked the dancing group Boogie Storm to perform a routine for the first dance, according to Pop Sugar. The dance group is known for their stint on Britain’s Got Talent and most importantly for wow-ing judge Simon Cowell who hit the gold buzzer while they were performing.

At the wedding, the group of five (who dresses as stormtroopers during their routines) stunned the crowd with their dance to a mashup of songs which included “Gangnam Style,” “Single Ladies,” and several other beloved showstoppers, obviously. Even though they’re famous for not being very good shooters in the film, they hit their mark At the end of the routine, however, there was quite the surprise. Darth Vader made an appearance (aka the groom,), and with his presence, one of the storm troopers took off her helmet to reveal that it actually was the bride, dancing along the entire time with Boogie Storm! Talk about a “most impressive” first dance.

“We wanted it to be a complete surprise, and it definitely was,” Holloway, 31, shared with Daily Mail about the reception performance. The couple (who are clearly Star Wars obsessed) came up with the idea after seeing the Liverpool dance crew make the finals of BGT this past May. While they were watching, the bride-to-be looked at 35-year-old Wood, and said, “that’s what you want for a first dance.” She then went on to find the group on Twitter, messaging them to see if they would perform at a wedding. ‘It was just a bit of a joke to start with.*I’m a big Star Wars fan so she said she was going to try and get in touch, then next thing I knew they’d emailed back and I realized it could genuinely happen. All the guys, when we were waiting to go on, said they were more nervous than ever because it was our wedding and they wanted us to do really well, they wanted it to be perfect for us.”

When she got the affirmative, Holloway actually travelled to Liverpool before the wedding several times to practice with the dance crew and make sure that they could dance in-sync. “The Stormtrooper costumes are really heavy, hot and sweaty, and once you’ve got the helmet on you have very limited vision so it is difficult, but I was determined not to let them or myself down by falling over – and I didn’t want to give the surprise away,” the bride recalled.

To top off the fun, the couple had a Star Wars cake shaped like the Millennium Falcon, with Yoda and Chewbacca cupcakes.*After their big dance reveal, all the guests were given light sabers to enjoy on the dance floor. A wedding theme that will be remembered in a galaxy far, far away (and on the internet) for years to come. See the full video, below!

Is It Ever OK to Uninvite a Plus-One?

Uninviting Plus One Etiquette

Photo: Getty Images

Whether you realized your venue is over capacity, or you just discovered that you don’t vibe with your second-cousin’s latest Tinder fling, there are probably going to be times during wedding planning that you’ll wish you hadn’t extended an invite. So what happens if you finally meet your childhood bestie’s new boyfriend and he turns out to be a totally obnoxious oaf? Is it ever acceptable to take back a plus one?

According to Patricia Napier-Fitzpatrick, founder and president of The Etiquette School of New York, it’s a major no-no. “It’s very rude to do that,” she says. “Unless you’re disinviting all the plus ones, it’s just very rude.”

Think It Through
It’s important to dig deeper as to why you want to cross this additional guest off the list. “If something pretty bad has transpired, and if the relationship is completely broken, then you may consider uninviting this person,” etiquette and lifestyle expert Elaine Swann says. It’s crucial to evaluate what your relationship with this person and your original guest will look like after the wedding, she says. If something has gone down that has led you not to want to continue a relationship after the big day—say the person has deeply offended you in some manner, or there has been a physical altercation—then the situation may be extreme enough to warrant being disinvited.

See More: How Do I Uninvite Wedding Guests for Financial Reasons?

How To Do It
Again, taking back a plus-one invite will only happen in very unique and serious circumstances. (We’re not talking about hating the corny jokes of a family member’s sidekick.) That said, if you must do so, Swann suggests reaching out directly to the plus-one to deliver the news and informing the original guest of your decision. By contacting the offending party directly, you can avoid anything getting lost in translation, Swann says. Whether it’s an email or a phone call, simply state something like, “After great thought, we’ve decided that it’s best you don’t attend the wedding.” Also, you may want to mentally prepare yourself for the potential that the person may be offended. “That’s just going to be part of the collateral damage” if you decide to go this route, Swann says.

Plus-One Guidelines

One thing to remember when it comes to additional guests, is that a plus-one “is up to the discretion of the person you’re inviting,” according to Fitzgerald. So if you’re feeling iffy about your favorite uncle’s judgement, perhaps it’s best to only extend a solo invite. Swann says, “If you don’t trust [the guest], then don’t extend a plus-one invitation.”

11 Random Factors That Affect Your Chances of Getting Pregnant

how to get pregnant

Photo: Getty Images

When you’re trying to conceive (or trying not to!), you probably think about your cycle or how often you have sex as thing that typically affect your shot at getting pregnant. But there are also some far less obvious factors that influence both your and his fertility.

While this is a laundry list, what really matters most, according to women’s health expert Jennifer Wider, M.D., is when you’re ovulating, your age (and his as well, at least to up your chances of a healthy baby), your smoking habits, and his sperm count. (In other words, take most with a grain of salt, since by and large the effects are pretty negligible).

But, if you’re really trying to optimize your chances, these little things might also make an impact.

1. How much TV he watches
Weird but true: Guys who watch five hours of TV or more per day have a lower sperm count than guys who don’t watch TV at all, according to a study in the American Journal of Epidemiology.

2. How stressed you are
This one is actually pretty major. A study in the Annals of Epidemiology found that women who reported above-average stress levels were 45 percent less likely to conceive.

3. What he looks like
Weird but true: guys with a more masculine look (measured by things like face width) tend to have lower sperm quality, one study in the Journal of Evolutionary Biology found.

4. His intelligence
Higher IQs usually correlate with higher sperm quality, according to research from Kings College in London. Score for the smart guys!

5. The timing of your romps
Obviously, the more you have sex, the more likely you are to get pregnant. But interestingly, how far apart you space the sessions matters. The chances of artificial insemination working almost triples when using the second sperm sample collected within an hour, says one study presented at the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology meeting.

6. His exposure to hot water
If you’ve been hanging out in a hot tub, your chances of conceiving may not be great. The sperm count of men in a study in the Brazilian Society of Urology journal increased after they avoided hot baths and jacuzzis for three to six months.

7. The cleaning chemicals in your house
Pesticides, pollutants, and other chemicals can decrease your chances of getting pregnant by up to 29 percent, according to one study in Environmental Health Perspectives. Both men’s and women’s exposure mattered. The authors think these substances could be affecting our hormone levels.

8. His laptop usage
Apparently, by putting a computer on his lap, he can disrupt what’s underneath it. A Fertility and Sterility study examined sperm samples placed underneath laptops, and 25 percent of the sperm stopped swimming, while only 14 percent of sperm placed safely away from laptops did. Time for an iPad?

See More: What It’s Like to Try to Get Pregnant When You Have PCOS

9. Which birth control you’ve taken in the past
Obviously, taking birth control right before you’re trying to conceive can (and uh, should) reduce your chances of getting knocked up. But if you’ve taken Depo-Provera, that effect could last for up to two years. If you’re taking the shot and you want kids in the semi-near future, you should start thinking about going off it now.

10. Whether you’re breastfeeding
Kind of a handy trick: most moms don’t ovulate with they’re breastfeeding, so your chances of conceiving one baby while you’re nursing another are quite low, though not zero.

11. What kind of underwear he wears
This is a personal favorite: Sperm grow best under temperatures lower than the rest of the body, and when his balls are squished into tight undies, let’s just say things can heat up in there. If he’s trying to maximize his sperm count, the answer to the “boxers vs. briefs” question is a no-brainer: boxers.

Matthew McConaughey Says Everyone Thought Camila Alves Would Decline His Marriage Proposal

Matthew McConaughey Recalls Proposal to Camila Alves

Photo: Getty Images

Before setting eyes on his beyond beautiful wife, Camila Alves, Matthew McConaughey wasn’t sure he’d ever get married. “I had to get to the point where I saw [getting married] as more than just the thing to do,” the actor recalled in a previous interview. But all it really took was a quick glance at his goddess wife to seal the deal! McConaughey and Alves married in 2012 and now share three children together — and countless adorable moments on the red carpet. But as it turns out, there were some that never thought the two would eventually say “I do.” McConaughey just recently revealed how he proposed to his love — and how their family didn’t think she’d say yes!

The Free State of Jones actor popped the question to his now-wife while visiting his family during Christmas back in 2011. “I remember hitting the knee, looking into her eyes,” McConaughey recalled in the November issue of Esquire magazine. “I remember her face. I remember this smile coming up from her feet. I remember her having to catch her breath.” We’re already swooning at the sweetness, but apparently that catch-her-breath moment lasted just a beat too long!

“She didn’t say yes right away,” McConaughey revealed. “And then the whole family was going, ‘Jeezus, she’s gonna say no.'” Uh-oh!

But despite that sure-to-have-been nerve-wrecking moment, McConaughey and Alves got their happily ever after. And it seems like surprising popped question moments run in the McConaughey family. Previously, the actor shared the story of his parents’ unconventional engagement, explaining how his mother surprised his dad during a visit with his family. “When he got there, my mom — his girlfriend and not-yet-fiancé — answered the door. She said, ‘I’m going to fast-forward this situation,’ and handed him an invitation to their wedding. ‘You’ve got twenty-four hours,’ she said. ‘I’ll need a yes or a no.” So bold…

Guess it’s just a McConaughey family tradition?

Here's What You Should Be Looking for in a Wedding Planner

Every bride needs someone reliable to lean on when it comes to planning a kickass wedding. Often that means going beyond your family and friends and hiring a professional. So how can you find a good wedding planner match, someone with the same priorities and overall vision? Here’s what to consider when interviewing potential wedding planners.

1. A Free Consultation
A face-to-face meeting is imperative when it comes to hiring a wedding planner. Seeing someone’s work online or having a good phone conversation is one thing, but meeting them in person and really getting to know them can confirm or challenge what you might have already thought. “Professional wedding planners will offer a free consultation so they can get to know you and your wedding vision and determine if they’re a good fit for you,” says Kinsey Roberts of Vista View Events.

2. The Planner’s Personality
It’s super important that you find someone whose personality clicks with yours, says Viva Max Kaley of Viva Max Weddings. Just think about how much you’ll be communicating with and seeing this person throughout a potentially stressful wedding planning process. “They’re going to be a part of your life in a very saturated way for a short amount of time,” Kaley says. So you’ll want to be sure you’re very comfortable with your planner and how they listen to you and speak to you. There should be a solid rapport and an element of trust there.

3. The Planner’s Individual Background or Experience
Each planner has their own unique skill set and some may be better suited to the type of wedding you’re hoping to plan. “If you’re very focused on design, colors, and floral — and you know you want help from someone who’s also very visual — it would make sense to choose someone whose background aligns with your needs,” Kaley advises. Or if food is your first priority, then a planner who knows the ins and outs of the catering business or used to be a chef might be a good choice. Of course, many planners have a diverse body of experience to draw from, but you should try to work with one who also emphasizes the aspects that you think are the most important.

4. What Services are Included
Spend a little time thinking about what services you’ll need for your wedding, then find a planner who can fulfill those needs. Some planners offer all-encompassing packages whereas some are more a la carte. You may only need a day-of coordinator to help everything run smoothly, or you may prefer an expert to help walk you through every step of the way while planning your big day.

Kaley recommends being honest about what you’re capable of doing and what your strengths and weaknesses may be. “For example, if you don’t have time to email all of the vendors because of your work commitments, perhaps you should shop for someone who can handle the communication for you,” she adds. What’s more, some planners tack on an extra charge for design services, so make sure you know what you’re getting from the start, says Sarah Chancey of Chancey Charm. And some coordinators won’t set up any décor unless it’s explicitly stated in the contract.

5. The Average Response Time
Since communication is key, Chancey says it’s also important to know what kind of response time you can expect from your planner. This will help reduce or eliminate the stress of wondering about any issues — big or small — as you’re planning. So be sure to ask potential planners whether you’ll be communicating via phone calls, texts, or emails and how long you should expect to wait for a reply. Timely and proactive

6. Simple Honesty
Your bridesmaids can be your “yes” men, but your planner shouldn’t. Find someone who will give it to you straight when it comes to everything from your creative ideas to your budget. “You want to work with someone who will keep your expectations realistic while ensuring your vision, not someone who will say or do anything to get your business,” warns Breen Halley Miller of TOCA Social.

7. Insurance
Although it’s the least romantic aspect of wedding planning, insurance is a must. Make sure your planner has liability insurance. In fact, most high-end resorts require a planner to have it, says Victoria Canada of Victoria Canada Weddings & Events. This maintains the professional aspect of everything and protects everyone involved.
