Do I Have to Invite My Friend's Baby to My Wedding?

Inviting Babies to Weddings

Photo: Anastasiia Photography

When you’re starting to iron out your guest list and are deciding on take off the list, there are a few things you and your partner will have to make a decision on — one being are children allowed at your wedding. With this decision comes a few questions: do you have friends who are expecting a child right around your wedding that will need childcare? Do you want to invite just babies to the wedding (and no small children who are mobile)? Or, do you want to invite children regardless of their ages?

The child guest list decision is a difficult one. Some brides think it’s more practical and budget-friendly to say “no” to all children, but not letting your friends bring their babies may mean that your friends won’t be able to come.

When you are making this decision, the first thing you should do is see if you can create some kind of environment for your babies to stay in throughout the night. Perhaps you can turn an extra bridal suite at the venue into a playroom — where a professional babysitter is hired to watch the little ones for the night. If the venue isn’t equipped for that, another option is to invite the parents with their babies and let them know that just coming to the ceremony or reception is fine and both are not required. Giving them the option to come and go as needed may have many moms and dads on your guest list feeling less stressed about attending the wedding with a new baby.

If you really don’t want any children at your wedding, you can make that decision and pass it along to your friends in advance (who then will make the decision about whether or not they’d like to come or leave their baby at home). Either way you decide, as the bride — it’s ultimately your decision, so just make sure that you tell your friends beforehand so there is no confusion.

Congratulations are in order for Candice Swanepoel and her fiancé Hermann Nicoli, who welcomed a baby boy into the world! The couple shared a photo of their newborn Saturday morning, and he couldn’t be cuter.

This is the first baby for the couple, who revealed that they were expecting back in March. According to E! News, they named their son Anacã, which is “a Brazilian word for a specific kind of bird.” Talk about a unique name!

“Life is sweet,” Swanepoel captioned the black and white photo (see below). of her infant baby boy, who looks especially cozy in a striped onesie and nestled in a bed of pillows.

Jerome Duran, photographer and friend of Swanepoel, revealed the news on Instagram with a photo of Swanepoel’s naked, pregnant body along with the caption, “”THE MOST BEAUTIFUL MAMA Congratulations!! @angelcandices @hermannicoli Welcome Anacã!!! Already sooo much LOVE for you and the new family!” You can see the image below.

Sources revealed to E! News back in March that the couple was “very happy” and that Swanepoel was “so excited” about becoming a mother. Apparently Swanepoel and her close friend and fellow Victoria’s Secret model/new mom Behati Prinsloo will be leaning on each other a lot throughout their new motherhood, after relying on each other through their pregnancies.

“Candice and Behati are best friends and they are not far apart from each other in pregnancy due dates,” the source said. “They both have been experiencing the first stages of being pregnant together and are happy to have each other who understand. They can’t wait to be mommies!”

Swanepoel and Nicoli announced their engagement in August 2015, after having dated for 10 years. They met in Paris when Swanepoel was 17 years old, according to E! News.

If you’ve ever thought about giving the flower crown trend a little added glamour, the geniuses behind Marchesa’s look read your mind. By giving your hair adornment structure in the form of pearls, crystals and precious metal, you still get that floral vibe, but with much more polish. We also can’t look away from the models’ pearly inner-eyes. Wet an angled brush and then dip it into a shimmery white or platinum-colored shadow to get the effect.

Classic glamour with a modern twist was the name of the beauty game at Alfred Angelo. How exactly was it accomplished? Make sure your red lipstick has orange undertones and a semi-matte finish, make your cat-eye flick so thin it’s almost geometric, and of course highlight, highlight, highlight.

Anyone who suggests that brides can’t be utterly au courant when it comes to beauty needs to check out this show! Pink eyeshadow is sticking around as a trend in a big way, and brides can embrace it right along with the rest of the world. Two big tips: Keep your eye drops handy so there isn’t a hint of redness in your actual eyes (no matter how much celebrating you’ve been doing) and keep the rest of your makeup subtle, so the eyes can really shine.

Lela Rose

Lela Rose
Lela Rose’s girl is a nature-lover who knows the importance of minimalism. If that speaks to you, then her brand of healthy, ‘just went for a run’ beauty is probably what you should strive for on your big day! Think glowing skin, lips that are a bit redder than nature and very little eye makeup.

Rime Arodaky
If your wedding day is all about fantasy, then perhaps your nuptial makeup should be, as well! That is the strong message from Rime Arodaky’s runway, and we love it. Take your highlighting game to all new levels and actually make your lids and cheekbones take on a high-wattage shine. We suggest layering highlighters to achieve this—so think about using your cream stick, your powder and your liquid formula at the same time (we get giddy just thinking about it!).

When it comes to the story of how Kate Fletcher and Nick Morgan met, the bride says the details are a little hazy. “The consensus seems to be we met at a fraternity party at Northwestern University, where we both went to college,” she says. But there’s absolutely no confusion over their engagement. After three years of long-distance dating, Nick popped the question when their stars — meaning zip codes — finally aligned. “He lured me out of bed with a promise of coffee. Then, on bended knee, he asked me to marry him.”

The couple threw their September 12, 2015, wedding in Washington, D.C., where they finally lived together after many years apart. Kate and Nick envisioned a classic, elegant event with a navy, pink, and gold color palette, complete with whimsical details chosen specifically to delight guests. “Most of all, I wanted to throw the best party I have ever attended,” Kate says. With the help of Pineapple Productions, the couple did just that — and Kate Headley was there to capture it all.

Choosing their invitations was one of the bride’s favorite parts of wedding planning. “Our custom-designed invitation suite was classic and personal, with touches of whimsy,” says Kate. “I absolutely adore it.” The duo also personalized guests’ welcome bags, printed with an image of Washington, D.C., and stuffed them with goodies like champagne, popcorn, and a city guide.

Kate wasn’t sure what she wanted in a wedding dress. Luckily, she spotted what turned out to be the perfect gown — a silk chiffon and lace Monique Lhuillier — while browsing Pinterest. She tracked down the elegant style at a local bridal boutique and the trip confirmed her initial thoughts: It was definitely the one.

Kate’s bridesmaids wore gowns that mimicked her own, with illusion necklines and soft, A-line silhouettes. “I love the preppy navy blue,” says the bride, “and I love how the length allowed my bridesmaids to truly join the party.” Like Kate, her ‘maids carried ivory bouquets with touches of blush blooms.

Nick and his groomsmen donned gray suits, and the groom gifted each guy their shirts and blue neckties. On their lapels, the men wore ivory spray rose boutonnieres.

Between the two of them, Kate and Nick have ten nieces and nephews, so they asked three to step in as their flower girls. The girls wore ivory dresses with blue sashes, plus flower crowns on their heads.

Kate and Nick tied the knot inside St. John’s Church at Lafayette Square, which is also known as the Presidents’ Church because of its proximity to the White House and the fact that every U.S. president since Madison attended services there. With its beautiful sanctuary, the couple needed little in the way of décor, placing just two white and green arrangements by the altar.

The couple’s wedding fell close to the Supreme Court’s historic decision to rule same-sex marriage legal in all 50 states, and the couple wanted to honor that decision during their day. They asked their officiant to read a passage from the ruling that explains the real meaning of marriage. “Guests from across the political spectrum approached us afterwards praising the readings selection,” the bride says. “After our wedding ceremony, Nick and I stood alone in a receiving line and greeted each of our guests. We had the opportunity to greet and hug each guest and invite them to the festivities.”

The couple held their reception at The Hay-Adams, located just across the street from the church where they wed. “Providing an easy, seamless weekend for our guests was really important to us,” says Kate.

Guests found their seating assignments pinned to a green board that was bordered with a green-and-ivory garland. As cards were removed, a sign with the couple’s wedding hashtag was revealed. “It was a beautiful and fun focal point,” says Kate. And beyond that, a stunning view awaited guests inside the reception hall and outside the windows.

Inside, guests were greeted by a mix of high and low centerpieces made from ivory and blush roses, hydrangeas, dahlias, snow on the mountain, and acacia foliage. “We used clear glass vases so guests could see clearly across the table and across the room to see the White House,” Kate says. What’s more, the couple mixed and matched china and chairs to create different looks so that some tables were surrounded by ghost chairs and polka-dot plates, while others were decorated with Chivari chairs and sunray-style dinnerware.

“At each place we provided a navy and white menu card with a trellis border that echoed our invitation suite,” Kate says. “Place cards and table cards had the same border and were finished with custom calligraphy.”

Doughnut favors were wrapped in ivory and navy boxes and placed at each seat. “We also had a decal that matched our invitation suite on a mirror that read ‘What a Day at the Hay!'” Kate says.

The couple’s cake was simple and tasteful, decorated with Kate and Nick’s monogram and blush flowers, and made from layers of coconut cake with cream cheese frosting and almond cake with milk chocolate ganache.

Kate and Nick shared their first dance to Jason Mraz’s “Quiet,” performed by the couple’s live band. “Out of all of the decisions in the planning process, we were probably the most indecisive when it came to picking a band,” Kate admits. “All told, we watched 13 videos, attended two live performances, and crashed one wedding in the service of picking our band. After all that, we were convinced that our band, The Source, was the best one for us.”

Do Two Grooms Need to Wear Matching Attire?

two grooms wedding attire

Photo: Agaton Strom

Choosing your wedding day attire is an opportunity to both embody the style and dress code you’ve chosen for your wedding and also express your personality, and a same-sex wedding is no exception! Whether it’s two brides or two grooms, you should walk down the aisle in something that makes you feel your best. While two brides wouldn’t expect to wear the same outfit for their wedding, should two grooms wear the same suit or tux, or should they opt to each wear something that speaks to their personality? Here are some tips from our experts.

Good news! There is no rule requiring that two grooms need to match as they walk down the aisle. You should, however, consider keeping your attire coordinated — both to fit your wedding’s dress code and to match with the style or theme of your celebration. For example, if you’re having a black tie wedding, you might opt to wear tuxedos with different finishes (such as a peak vs. a shawl collar lapel, or satin vs. matte details) or in different hues, with one in a dark navy tuxedo and the other in black or slate gray. You could choose to accent your looks with creative bow ties, or one could don a straight tie instead.

For a more casual wedding, you also have similar options. Whether it’s suits in different shades or cuts, the addition of a coordinated vest, or a colorful tie, embrace the opportunity to express your style and personality while still making sure you both fit in with your wedding’s dress code and theme (and stand out amongst the guests!).

If you do choose to wear outfits that match more closely, consider shopping at the same store and shopping together. Standing side-by-side in the dressing room in the same suit or tux, you’ll get a pretty good idea of whether it’s a look you love or if the matchy-matchy feels like it’s too much. Shopping in the same store and looking at attire from the same brand will also ensure that your suits are the exact same shade of gray or black, versus trying to match fabrics across brands and designers.

You Won't Believe What Kanye West Had Engraved in Kim Kardashian's Stolen Engagement Ring

kim-kardashian-engagement-ring-engraved-main.jpg

After the tragic — and extremely scary — armed robbery Kim Kardashian faced this past weekend at her private home in Paris, we’re taking a moment to reminisce about the reality star’s multi-million dollar emerald cut engagement ring, recently gifted to her by none other than husband Kanye West. In an interview with Andy Cohen during Advertising Week in New York City, Kardashian opened up about the story behind the infamous 20-carat, $4 million diamond band, and man does it scream “Kanye.”

kim kardashian engagement ring

Photo: Getty Images

Apparently, after the famous rapper scored a big deal with Adidas this past June, he decided to take some of the money he got from the transaction to casually buy his new wife the BIGGEST diamond we’ve ever seen. As Kardashian tells the story, West supposedly surprised her one night saying, “Babe, babe I got you something from Adidas.” Assuming he just meant a pair of shoes, she sleepily told him, “I’ll get the shoes in the morning, I’m sleeping.” Much to her surprise, the singer placed a Lorraine Schwartz box on her pillow and said, “No, open your eyes — you know I just did that big Adidas deal so I got you something from Adidas.”

Kanye being Kayne, the Adidas puns weren’t over yet. According to Kardashian, he even had the band engraved with the word ‘Adidas’ “cuz he’s funny like that.”

But if you know anything about the Kimye power couple, you know that nothing that they do is quiet or lowkey. The rapper proposed to his leading lady in an over-the-top event (of course filmed by E!), leading Kardashian blindfolded to AT&T Park in San Francisco and got down on one knee to pop the question. When he did so, the giant scoreboard in the baseball field lit up with the words, “PLEASE MARRY MEEE!!!” and a live string orchestra began to play romantically while her family watched from the baseball dugouts. The only thing to top that jaw-dropping mayhem was their actual wedding — a stunning celebration in Italy that cost over $2.8 million and included a rehearsal dinner at the Versailles palace in France. Consider it the Kimye way — go big or go home.

The ONE Thing Sarah Jessica Parker Regrets About Her Wedding Day

The woman who made rocking a LBD (little black dress) on her wedding day chic is breaking our hearts. Sarah Jessica Parker recently opened up that she actually regrets wearing a black dress to her wedding to Matthew Broderick.

Even though SJP has worn white wedding dresses on-screen while marrying John James Preston, when it came to her own wedding she went a very chic, alternative route: a black dress. Thanks to her recent revelation to Andy Cohen on Watch What Happens Live, the former Sex and the City star explained that she actually regrets wearing black to marry her husband, according to ET Online. “I was too embarrassed to spend any time looking for a wedding dress, so I just — there was a store I liked and I knew, and I just went and got whatever they had hanging.” If only every bride’s wedding dress shopping experience were that easy!

The actress, 51, married Broderick, 54, on May 19, 1997 in a surprise wedding with 100 unassuming guests, who thought they were in for another party. On the big day, SJP wore a black dress that she literally bought off the rack (allegedly the first one she saw) that wouldn’t attract any attention. “I was too embarrassed to wear white, and both Matthew and I were reluctant to have people pay so much attention to us,” she told Marie Claire. Little did she know that the dress would be an iconic, fashion-forward choice that inspired brides for years to come.

And while Andy Cohen and the rest of the bridal world found her choice to be chic and totally badass, the actress expressed regrets about her decision and responded, “No I would do it differently.” This isn’t the first time she’s felt that white dress FOMO. In 2009, the SATC star told Harper’s Bazaar that she would renew her vows and wear a white dress that time. “I’d waer a beautiful, proper wedding dress, like I should have worn that day,” she told the mag.

Still, we can’t help but wonder if her nonchalant wedding day pick has anything to do with a successful marriage. She and Broderick have been married for 19 years with three kids, and are still going strong. If that’s not a case for a black dress decision, we’re not sure what is!

What These Brides Learned From Their Husbands' Exes (Yes, Seriously!)

Marriage Advice from Exes

Photo: Getty Images

Usually people don’t want to have anything to do with their partner’s ex. But other times, in a surprising turn of events, marital wisdom can come from the most unexpected source — your spouse’s ex. While many would want to stay as far away from their partner’s ex as possible, befriending them (if only for their wisdom) can be a smart option, too. Case in point: these real brides share the stellar advice they received from their spouse’s ex — and so it’s only appropriate that we share the wealth (and knowledge!).

Remember that you can’t “fix” anyone.
“I met his ex at my engagement party! They’d been together eight years. She was at the bar, and said to me, ‘Honey, you don’t have our history, so let me just tell you this. If you want this to work, if you think you can make it work, you need to understand you can’t fix him or encourage him to be a better version of himself. He is the way he is.’ I thought she was being a spiteful ex but nearly four years into marriage I can say she was right. And if it weren’t for her saying that, I would’ve been a lot more disappointed at the way some things have been, but because of her advice I am more able to truly accept my husband for the person he is.” —Ysmay

Make a date night once a week.

“I’m not friends with Jim’s ex but it’s a small town and we run into each other once in a while. Recently we met at of all places the waiting room at the gynecologist and we started talking. (There were no interesting magazines to read!) She said, ‘I’m getting married and this time around I’m going to do something I forgot to do with Jim — keep dating.’ That stuck with me. Once a week Jim and I do something together without the kids, even if it’s snuggling watching Netflix.” —Hildy

Make each other a priority.

“This sounds a little weird but my roommate introduced me to her ex-husband. She said, ‘He’s a great guy. We didn’t work out because I was building my career and didn’t make him a priority. If the two of you hit it off, don’t make that mistake.’ Sam and I did hit it off — he is indeed a great guy and we are one another’s priorities.” —Michelle

Compliment your sex life.

“I bumped into her once at a drugstore buying shaving cream, aftershave, and yeah, condoms. She looked into my basket and said, ‘If I had a do-over I wouldn’t keep telling Ed he was a lousy lover. In retrospect, he was really caring and wanting to make sure I was satisfied. Men I’ve been with since the divorce have been selfish in bed.’ It was very awkward listening to his ex talk about her sex life with my husband but I took her words to heart. I always compliment his love making and tell him how much I appreciate his wanting to please me!” —Ann

Tell the truth instead of shutting down.

“She told me once while dropping off my husband’s six year old daughter, ‘Whenever Tom would ask me what was wrong, I’d say nothing even when there really was something I was stewing over. When he asks, tell him the truth rather than shutting down.’ That advice has served me well.” —Linda

Don’t ever threaten divorce — unless you mean it.

“By no means am I friends with Mitch’s ex. And she never gave me advice per se. But he told me early on, ‘Josie was constantly threatening me with divorce so it made me not feel safe in the relationship.’ I learned from that and when we’re mad at each other I bite my tongue before making any kind of baseless threat. Words hurt.” —Babs

Ben Higgins and Lauren Bushnell Had The Most Epic Bachelor and Bachelorette Parties in Vegas

Ben Higgins and Lauren Bushnell Bachelor and Bachelorette Parties

Photo: Getty Images

Celebrating your bachelor and bachelorette parties before even setting a wedding date? Sure, why not?! We’d have trouble waiting for all that pre-“I do” fun, too! Bachelor star Ben Higgins just celebrated the impending end of his, well, Bachelor status as Higgins and his fianc??é Lauren Bushnell headed to the unofficial capital of pre-wedding parties — Las Vegas! — for their bachelor and bachelorette bashes. No, they supposedly haven’t set a wedding date yet, but would you be able to resist a night out with your bridesmaids in Sin City?

The Bachelor fan-favorite couple hit the strip on Thursday with their fabulous friends for their aptly-named parties, according to Entertainment Tonight. (Bachelor in Paradise, much?) And luckily for us, the too-cute couple documented all of the Sin City fun on social media (see below). Warning: They’ll give you some major FOMO!

While Bushnell and her gal pals piled into a limo, Higgins and his bros took over a party bus to begin their Vegas excursions. Of course, there were a ton of selfie opportunities and things started to get a little wild with a hilarious Ed Sheeran sing-along sesh for the bachelor party, while Bushnell showed off her dance moves with the girls. The bachelorette party continued for Bushnell and the gang at Vegas’ MGM Grand. How’s that for a happily ever after kick-off?

But when will this couple’s happily ever after get its start? Apparently, they don’t even know! “We haven’t set a date,” Bushnell told Entertainment Tonight last month. “We are really trying to figure out what’s best for us because our lives have been really going 100 miles per hour,” the bride-to-be explained. “Hopefully next year.” And hopefully we all will get to watch, as the Bachelor pair will probably opt to televise their upcoming nuptials. “We’ve invited everybody into our life up to this point, said Higgins. “Why not let them continue?”
