You’ve got a hotel room for your first night as a married couple. But that doesn’t mean you have to use it, our experts say. Why? “Some couples find that wedding night sex in their hotel room is too expected, or they worry that everyone will know their business,” says Madeleine Castellanos, M.D., sex expert and author of Wanting to Want: What Kills Your Sex Life and How to Keep It Alive. “Having wedding night sex somewhere other than their hotel room can help prevent these obstacles to arousal, and may even inject a little eroticism into the process.” So with that in mind, here are five other places you might want have wedding night sex.
1. A Dressing Room
Some venues give its bride and grooms a room where they can change, reapply makeup, or unwind away from the party. If you’re lucky enough to snag a room that locks, Castellanos says, you may want to use it and get down in that very dressing room. “The best situation is when you can have the best man or maid of honor cover for you by distracting the family,” she adds.
2. A Stairway
Sneaking off to a hidden staircase, admits Castellanos, “is a little more tricky and often a lot dustier than a dressing room,” but it can be exciting nonetheless. Why? Because, as Castellanos points out, “there’s an increased chance of being caught.” Our advice? Before you get down in the open, make sure the coast is clear so that you won’t have to walk past any accidental peeping Toms.
3. Your Limo
If privacy isn’t your primary objective — you will have a driver, after all — a limo can be a fun spot for sex, says Gloria Brame, Ph.D., sexologist and author of The Truth About Sex: A Sex Primer For The 21st Century. “Tell the driver to roll up the privacy window and turn on some sweet music,” she instructs. “But do check discreetly with the driver, because some of them will not take kindly to the idea of you cavorting on their clean seats. If they hesitate, see if a good tip would change their mind.”
4. A Different Hotel
A member of your wedding party may be sharing a hotel wall with you if you’ve offered your guests a room block. And knowing they can hear your every moan and move may not give you the freedom to relax and enjoy yourself on this important night. “Look for someplace small, like a boutique hotel or even a bed and breakfast, and ask if they will guarantee honeymoon privacy,” suggests Brame. “If need be, you can scoot out of there to meet back with the wedding party for breakfast and no one will be the wiser.”
5. Your House
Your home may not seem like the sexiest spot. But if comfort is key, then your very own home might be the best spot for wedding night sex, Brame says. That doesn’t mean, however, it will be boring. “You can enhance the setting by setting up a room as a love nest for the night, going up to the roof — if it’s safe to do so — or heading into the backyard with candles, toys, and other romantic accessories,” she says.
