We’ll be the first to admit that when it comes to Snoop Dogg, his 19-year marriage isn’t the first thing that comes to mind. His music, his movies, his style — sure. But his wife of almost 20 years? Nope! Well, at least not until Snoop Dogg (real name Cordozar Calvin Broadus, Jr.) shared this totally EPIC throwback photo in honor of his 19th wedding anniversary to Shante Broadus on Tuesday.
“19. Years today @bosslady_ent Happy anniversary been a1 from day 1. thanks for my kids,” Snoop — who has four children with his wife — captioned the throwback Instagram pic, which appears to be a high school prom portrait of the pair, along with a slew of emojis.
The rapper also shared a few other Instagrams in honor of their marriage milestone, including a cute couple shot of Snoop and his wife accompanied by just emojis (hearts, flowers and a glass of wine) as well as a picture of a white bed with rose petals in the shape of a heart lying on the bedspread and a few flowers leaning against the pillows (wink, wink!). We think it’s safe to say based on these photos (below) these two had a very nice anniversary!
According to E! News, Broadus began dating Snoop when they were teenagers, before he took on his now infamous moniker and acquired an over-$100 million net worth. The rapper ultimately put a ring on his high school sweetheart’s finger, marrying Broadus in 1997.
The pair did run into some tough times, leading the rapper to file for divorce in 2004, citing “irreconcilable differences,” but the split didn’t last long. “I was trying to get a divorce, but I went back home and I fell back in love with my wife and kids. A lot of times you get cloudy,” Snoop told MTV at the time. “This music industry is a mother, man, and it’ll take your vision and blur it. But God is good, so I understand that I need my wife and my kids in my life — so I threw the papers away. I don’t want to get a divorce. So if you hear about a divorce, it’ll be my wife divorcing me. It won’t be me divorcing her…And I made a mistake, so I’m trying to get back right.”
And when it came to getting back his longtime love? Snoop did what any man in love would do. “A whole lot of begging and pleading,” Snoop told Larry King, regarding how he made it work with his wife. “It was up to me to try to put it back together, because I’m the one who said I didn’t want to be a part of it no more…It’s hard now to this day. It’s still hard because there’s a lot of, you know — there’s a lot of roller coaster to a relationship. You know, we’ve been together for 17 or 18 years. We’ve been married for 10 years, but, at the same time, it’s like, you know, some people in life are chosen for you. And I feel like we’re chosen for each other.”
The couple renewed their wedding vows in front of 200 friends and family on Jan. 12, 2008, on Charlie Wilson’s 20-acre ranch, which was a surprise ceremony for Snoop’s wife.
