Princess Kate May Not Be in Pippa Middleton's Wedding

The Internet has been all a-buzz since Pippa Middleton and fiancé James Matthews announced their engagement, but could their wedding go out without Middleton’s famous sister, Princess Kate?

The Duchess of Cambridge may not be the matron of honor at her sister’s wedding, People reports, for fear of overshadowing the bride. Being that Princess Kate is married to a prince who is second in line to the crown, her hesitation at being a key part of her sister’s wedding makes perfect sense.

“Kate would upstage her sister,” veteran royals author Judy Wade told People. “It’s a tricky situation for Pippa. She would want her sister by her side, as who else would she trust to make things go well?

“But if your sister is a future Queen, she is going to upstage the bride and draw attention. Kate would want to be in the background as much as possible.”

When this wedding does go down, it will likely be the social event of the year with many famous and royal faces in attendance. The guest list alone could possibly outshine the bride, but having a soon-to-be queen in the bridal party would definitely minimize the spotlight on Middleton and Matthews. There is no word yet on who will make up the bridal party, or what Princess Kate will be assigned to do if she isn’t crowned matron of honor.

It seems like just yesterday the younger Middleton sister shot to international fame the second she stepped out of the limo to serve as a bridesmaid in Prince William and Princess Kate’s royal wedding on April 29, 2011. (And one could argue that her white, body-hugging Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen bridesmaid dress gained just as much stardom.)

Middleton, 32, and Matthews, 40, first started dating in 2012 and split up that same year, according to People. The couple reunited in 2015, and have been happily together ever since. Matthews, a hedge-fund manager and chief executive of Eden Rock Capital Management Group, popped the question last Sunday in the Lake District of northwest England. Middleton has been seen around town this week sporting a huge, vintage-inspired diamond engagement ring, and the couple says that they plan to be married next year. According to Vanity Fair, people are predicting that Jenny Packham, who has designed many outfits for Princess Kate, may be on call to design Middleton’s wedding dress.

We may not know any juicy details about the wedding for a while — like whether or not Princess Kate will be a part of her sister’s big day — but we’re sure that, if called upon, Prince George and Princess Charlotte would make the cutest wedding attendants ever!
