Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom Are Sparking Engagement Rumors — Here's Why

A slew of celebrities were in Philadelphia for this week’s Democratic National Convention, and while we know that one couple is definitely engaged (here’s the photo proof), Katy Perry was definitely teasing us with some suspicious-looking bling on her left ring finger. So, the question is, “Are Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom engaged?” Here’s what we know.

According to Hollywood Life, The 31-year-old pop star performed at the culmination of the DNC for Hillary Clinton’s presidential nomination on July 28, and during rehearsal, she was wearing a thick multi-colored band in the spot where an engagement ring would normally go. Her doting beau, Bloom, 39, was there — supporting his main squeeze and cheering on their party. But, are they actually engaged? Only time will tell — but it certainly gets our hopes up!

An engagement between the two wouldn’t be that far-fetched; after all, they snuggle in public and look pretty snazzy together at award shows — and, above all — they agree on politics (a serious feat for any couple). The “I Kissed a Girl” singer took the stage right before Chelsea Clinton introduced her mother, Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, at the end of the convention, and sang her new single, “Rise.” In not-very-Katy-Perry-outfit fashion, she donned a glitzy striped gown (can’t lie — we were expecting a bit more from this brazen babe). It’s also important to note that she wasn’t wearing the multi-colored band while doing her live performance — mixed signals to the max.

As far as the ring, it’s not your typical engagement ring-look, but the fact that she is wearing the ring on that finger makes us wonder, that’s for sure. Perry and Bloom have been dating since early 2016, after being spotted canoodling at January’s Golden Globes parties. In March 2016, they confirmed that they were officially an item and seem to be getting pretty serious. When she’s not supporting her preferred presidential candidate, Perry is gallivanting around with her man on a tropical vacay in Hawaii — and most recently, Cannes, France.

The jury is still out on these two and their engagement status, but needless to say, the pop princess would make for one beautiful bride!

Bridemares: 8 Brides Share Their Crazy Night-Before-the-Wedding Dreams

sleep

Bridemares: Those crazy night-before-the-wedding dreams about planning gone wrong — like forgetting your dress, missing the reception, falling while dancing with your dad, and losing your passport right before the honeymoon. But if you’ve had any of these, you’re not alone. Here, eight real brides share their crazy night-before-the-wedding dreams and how they got through their big day upon waking.

“I got married June 2009 in Denver. Seven years later, I can still remember my dream about the cake zooming off the trays and attacking everyone in sight! Then it degenerated into a high-class food fight—instead of throwing pizzas in the high school cafeteria against your best friend, it was strawberry salad getting strewn at the bride. I’m proud to say that my wedding was much calmer and happily uneventful.” — Islin

“I had a variation of a common dream — you know, the one where you are late for a test. Except this time I was late for wedding. I kept running down hallways, tripping over the gown’s train. Boy, was I happy when I woke up!” — Sara

“My wacky bridemare was that I showed up at the altar, in front of hundreds of people, naked! I took it to mean that I felt secure enough in the relationship to be emotionally naked in front of my one true love!” — Amy

“I dreamt that when the minister asked, ‘Does anyone object to this man and women joining their hands in holy matrimony?’ my groom’s mother stood up and shouted, ‘Don’t do it, Billy!’ In actuality I was a little nervous she didn’t really approve of me and it felt especially lovely when a few hours before the ceremony she took me aside and said that her boy couldn’t have made a better choice for a wife!” — Simi

“My dream was that my sister showed up in a wedding gown also. It was my guilt that I was getting married first even thought she’s older. In reality she doesn’t want to get married until she’s ready to have a kid.” — Tara

“This was soooo weird — I dreamt about my sixth grade crush. Naturally I hadn’t thought about him in years. I confided the dream to one of my bridesmaids who interpreted that it’s normal to dream about ex’s the night before you’re pledging your life to one man forever. Though it’s a little weird that a boy whose name I don’t remember was the ‘ex’ I dreamt about.” — Ruth

“I wound up yelling so loudly in my sleep that I woke my sister, who was in the next room. Who was I yelling at — the florist for forgetting the hydrangeas.” — Carol

“My boyfriend and I had been living together for four years before we got married — and typically, whenever we drove somewhere, despite having a GPS, we got lost. So in my dream the two of us were driving to the wedding together — and wound up lost somewhere in Los Angeles. This was especially awful since the wedding was taking place in Big Sur. Happily, we were both chauffeured to the wedding and made it to the church on time!” — Deena

This Is What Wedding Cakes Looked Like Through the Years

What’s everyone’s favorite part of a wedding? No, it’s not your wedding dress. (Although it is darn gorgeous, we’re sure!) And no, it’s not those perfect place cards for which you and your ‘maids stayed up hours DIY’ing the calligraphy. And despite several of your guests dissolving into a puddle of tears, it’s not even when you and your hubby poured your hearts out during your vows. Instead, it’s when everyone eats their hearts out that almost always manages to be the biggest crowd pleaser of the night! Ahh yes, the wedding cake. Everyone from the flower girl to the grandparents anticipates that first bite of sugary confection at the reception. And while the style of wedding cakes have certainly changed throughout the years, that probably never will. Didn’t realize that big day desserts evolved across the decades? Well, allow us to take a trip down the yummiest memory lane. In our latest BRIDES video, we’re throwing it back to the wedding cake trends of decades past. Try not to get too hungry watching…

Think the brides of yesterday weren’t fawning over celebrity cake confections as much as we do now? Wrong! Sure, they might not have had Instagram to ‘like’ those scrumptious treats, but the wedding cakes of celebs still sparked the trends of the nuptial norms of the decade.

For example, in the 1940s, it was Queen Elizabeth’s towering tiered wedding cake that set the standard amongst big day desserts. Reportedly standing at nine feet tall and weighing in at 500 pounds, it’s certainly not hard to see why! Ten years later and the extravagantly-frosted wedding cakes of Grace Kelly and JFK took center stage and are still just as timeless as Jackie Kennedy’s ever-graceful bridal style.

By the 1970s, it was the terrifically over-the-top toppers that stole the show. This is when those classic bride-and-groom figurines really took off. (We’re betting your mom still has her’s stashed away somewhere!) And the 1980s were of course defined by Princess Diana’s five-tiered showstopper — a slice of which was actually just auctioned off last year. Wonder who that lucky auction winner was who snagged themselves a piece of 34-year-old fruit cake

Today, big day desserts are just as unique as brides themselves. Who said wedding sweet treats even technically had to be cakes? Brides and grooms are serving up tons of sugary alternatives (hello tiers of donuts!) to the classic cake, delicious enough to make your stomach rumble.

So what are you waiting for? It’s time to dig in and watch the video above! Maybe you’ll be inspired by Queen Elizabeth’s endless tiers for your own nuptials noms…

Jenna Dewan Tatum Just Got Real About Her Marriage to Channing Tatum

Jenna Dewan Tatum Talks Marriage and Motherhood

Photo: Getty Images

Is it even possible for us to love Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan Tatum anymore? Answer: Yes. Every time these two publicly declare their eternal affection for one another, post a sweet social media shoutout to their sweetheart, or just step foot out of their house, looking just so gosh darn adorable together, our obsession for this celebrity couple grows even more. And what’s not to love? The perfect pair just celebrated their seventh (!) anniversary together and are still totally smitten. So what’s their secret? These two do have blockbuster movies to act in and a three-year-old to take care of so it can’t be easy to find time to reconnect, right? Well, it actually sounds like Jenna Dewan Tatum has is all under control. The super mom/super wife/super actress just opened up on marriage, motherhood, and how she’s doing it all.

With seven years of wedded bliss now under their belts, the Tatums took to Instagram earlier this month to mark the celebratory occasion with a couple of sweet shoutout posts. While, Dewan Tatum posted two photo booth strips of silly snapshots she took with her hubby, the Magic Mike actor shared a pic of his bride silhouetted in the early morning light. “This woman, 11 years together, 7 married, Happy anniversary Cake,” Tatum captioned the artsy snapshot. (‘Cake’ is Tatum’s too-cute nickname for his wife, for the uninformed!) “Thank you baby I love you,” he wrote. “Plus you look daaaaaaaaanmm!!!” Too cute, right? But how are these two still cruising through the honeymoon phase after almost a decade of marriage — especially with a little one at home? According to the Step Up actress, it’s all about balance.

“I think it’s important to be conscious about giving everyone equal attention,” Dewan Tatum recently shared with People magazine. “I’ll think, ‘Okay, I’ve been with my daughter a lot, so Channing and I need a date night.” (We know how those go! Her hunky hubby did get seriously real about their sex life recently!)

“Some days I am better at it than others,” Dewan Tatum added. “But I just try to figure it out. Like everyone else! But I do think it’s important to consciously think about it.”

Staying conscious and balanced? Sounds like a plan to us! And we’re sure a little “show” every now and then from Jenna’s stripper-turned-A-list actor husband doesn’t hurt, either!

5 CRUCIAL Things I Learned About Marriage as a 22-Year-Old Bride

father of the bride

Photo: Getty Images

Dear Young Bride,

I was you. My husband and I got married six years ago this June, when we were 21 and 22 years old. This was young even by the conservative standards of the small southern town where I grew up. Jonathan and I didn’t know much about anything when we got married, but we knew we were in love, committed to each other and saw no reason to wait.

And it’s been six years, so I think I’m now in a place to give you some advice. Take the following with a grain of salt, as I know you will. You are young, after all. Here is my honest advice for you:

1. Marrying young is not for everyone. Be prepared.

I would not recommend that everyone get married at 22. When I hear now about people fresh out of college getting married, my first thought is “That’s not a great idea” before I remember that we were that age, too.

When you marry young, you have to be prepared for the hard parts. The ugly secondhand furniture. Tiny apartments. Debt. Someone going back to school. One or the other of you figuring out what you want to do with your life. The career changes. Unemployment. Wondering what to do when there is more month than money. Lots of uncertainty.

Some of these hard parts may cause you to go through periods where you fight. A lot. You may yell and scream and say things you don’t mean. That’s OK. Remember why you are in this.

2. Finish your education.
Marry a man who wants the best for you, not just for himself. What is best could involve you going back to school, if you want to. Becoming more educated makes you a better partner and person.

3. Wait a few years before babies.
One great thing about marrying young is that you have a few years to just enjoy being together before feeling any kind of pressure from your biological clock. That time alone together before babies is so sweet and is really important to building a solid foundation in your marriage.

And when you do have children, you will still be young parents with plenty of energy, ready to handle all of that sleep deprivation like a champ.

4. Realize that you will both change tremendously.
Understand that the person you marry at 22 is not the same as who you will be married to at 28, let alone 32. Understand that you will change a lot, too. Be willing to roll with these changes alongside your husband and stay in sync with him through it all. Don’t begrudge him for growing and developing as a person, and don’t let him do it to you, either.

5. Know that it is worth it.
All marriage is hard. Marrying young has some additional challenges that can make it harder. But with the right person, it is so worth it.

There is something wonderful about being in love with one person for your entire adult life. About seeing that person grow and change with time. About having such a long shared history. About seeing the 18-year-old boy you fell in love with become the father of your child.

Young bride, I wish you the best. It will be hard. You’ll want to quit sometimes. But if you hold on, I promise it will be worth it.

BRIDES Chicago: Your Out-of-Town Wedding Guests' Downtown Guide

chicago guide for guests

Photo: Instagram

Your wedding is the main draw bringing guests to Chicago. But, chances are they’ll have plenty of time to explore the city, too. When making an out-of-towner’s guide to the Windy City, here’s what to suggest they eat, drink, and see — all within walking distance of Chicago hotels in the Loop.

Where to Dine & Drink
Enjoy Brunch at The Gage
There are two main reasons to recommend a visit to the inviting gastropub. First, it’s just steps from Millennium Park (another must-see while in the Windy City). Second, the kitchen delivers one inventive American-inspired dish after the next. Brunch-goers can choose to start the day on a light note with the Blood Orange Parfait — a serving of Greek yogurt, housemade granola, almonds, and mint. Or, they can go the more decadent route with a Baked Pumpkin French Toast that’ll hold them over until your reception.

Drink at Cherry Circle Room
Step inside the Chicago Athletic Association’s Cherry Circle Room, and it’ll feel as if you’ve stepped back in time. The second-floor space was once home to a restaurant of the same name, and the revamped version gives more than just a nod to the building’s history. Even the cocktail menu can trace its inspiration back 100 years or so. You can bet guests will love the throwback feel as much as the cocktails.

Caffeinate at Dollop
Guests looking to live like locals should start their day at Dollop. Now with 11 locations around the city, it’s part of the A.M. routine for many Chicagoans. The Loop’s outpost is a must stop for a homemade pastry and a cup of Chicago’s own Metropolis Coffee.

Order Lunch at Luke’s Lobster
While no one visits Chicago for seafood, it’s tough to pass up this New York chain’s minimally dressed lobster rolls — which boast fresh, wild-caught lobster as the main ingredient. Recommend guests pick up their order from the take-out counter and head a few blocks north to enjoy it while sitting along the newly redone Riverwalk.

Things to See & Do
Book a Sweat Session
Fitness-minded guests don’t need to derail their workout routines on their trip. Soul Cycle‘s Loop location on Wacker Drive delivers the meditative, heart-pumping workout Soul Cycle devotees are used to, this time from an inspiring Chicago instructor they’ve never ridden with before. Adrenaline and feel-good vibes will have them ready to kick off the wedding festivities in no time.

See the Sights
It’s impossible to see all 300,000 plus works of art housed inside the Art Institute, but a trip to Chicago wouldn’t be complete without trying. Be sure to give guests an insider’s tip to visit the Thorne Miniature Rooms on the lower level and the sleek Modern Wing. Then, advise them to walk north to The Bean for the quintessential Chicago photo.

Prep for the Wedding
Female guests who really want to feel like they’re on vacation can leave the hair styling to the pros at Fuga Centro Salon & Spa. A $50 blowout and complimentary cappuccino will leave them feeling—and looking—like a million bucks. So as not to leave the gentleman out, advise them to visit HALO [FOR MEN], just three blocks from Fugo, for a haircut or neck touchup.

Wedding Beauty Inspiration From Mila Kunis, Emma Roberts, and Brie Larson

celeb-beauty-7-29.jpg

Photo: Getty Images

Mila Kunis gives major ‘cat-itude’, Emma Roberts is a bronze dream and Brie Larson throws beauty rules out the window. Take inspiration from these red carpet darlings for your wedding beauty.

Mila Kunis at the premiere of Bad Moms: Still need your ‘something blue’? Think outside the box and let your eyeshadow fill that void. To recreate Mila Kunis’s edgy blue cateye look, start with a full coverage foundation and buff it into place. Take an updated approach to your contour by accentuating your cheekbones with a pink, powder blush. Then highlight right above the blush line, and down the center points of your face. Create a precise brow line by shaping your brows with a brow gel and then highlighting around the lines. For the eyes, begin by tightlining with a black kohl pencil and extend the line down below the lower lashes. To create the sharp lines of the cat eye, wet an angled brush and use blue eyeshadow to get the perfect wing, making sure you extend the line around the outer corner and under the lower lashes. A shade of light blue or white shadow right above the blue line makes the shape pop all the more. A few coats of mascara, pink lip gloss, and you’re done.

Emma Roberts at the 20th Century Fox Party at Comic-Con International 2016: Embrace your inner glowing goddess for your big day with Emma Roberts’s gorgeous look. Use a cushion foundation to even out your complexion without any heavy makeup and contour with a matte bronzer. On your cheekbones, go over the top of the bronzer with a coral blush to warm up the look even more, and then highlight, highlight, highlight. Go for a strong brow brushing the hair up and out and using a gel formula to fill in a heavy shape. Use champagne- and copper-colored shadows to create a bronzed eye. And for the lashes? Get some extensions before the big day, so they’re long and fluttering for both the wedding look and the honeymoon. A pink stain on your lips pulls everything together, but keeps your lips extra kissable throughout the day.

Brie Larson at the Marvel Studio Panel at Comic-Con International 2016: Sometimes, it can be the smallest changes to a standard makeup look that make the biggest impact. Take Brie Larson for example: By simply going light on the mascara with a smokey eye, she looks ultra-modern and cool. To achieve this look, start with a full coverage foundation and use a mauve blush all over the cheeks. On the cheekbones, use a highlighter stick to create a heavy glow. For the eyes, smudge a black eyeliner all around the eyes, but skip the inner corners. Create a subtle smokey look with dark brown shadows and then apply one coat of mascara and highlight the inner corners to give the look that slightly lighter, ‘untraditional’ feel. Go bold with a deep burgundy lipstick, making sure you line the lips first, and you’ve got the perfect combination of modern, glamorous and unique.

Bring on the bubbly! Whether at your engagement party, rehearsal dinner, wedding reception, after-party, or anything in between, a sparkling cocktail is the prettiest, tastiest way to raise a glass and celebrate your marriage. Soup up your coupe with these festive mixers and garnishes.

Syrups and Liqueurs
An infused simple syrup gives your fizz a fruity tang. (We love Maine-based Royal Rosé’s flavors, like orange-vanilla.) Fresh juice is another classic mixer. Think your Sunday-brunch mimosa, but try swapping out OJ for more complex flavors like blood orange, mango, or peach. Rich liqueurs like creme de cassis (black currant) and St-Germain (elderflower) add soft color and a bonus buzz to your bubbly.

Fruits and Florals
Set out small plates of fresh berries, pomegranate seeds, and citrus (try kumquat rounds or thinly sliced blood orange) and let guests DIY the garnish. Edible flowers like pansies, orchids, nasturtiums, and roses make it super pretty. Just be sure to get a pesticide-free variety from a reputable source (like marxfoods.com).

Sweetness and Light
Edible gold flakes are flavorless but festive; add a pinch and watch them catch the light. Don’t have the budget for gold leaf? Drop a simple sugar cube in a glass, sprinkle in a
few drops of Angostura bitters, top with sparkling wine, and finish with a twist of lemon for a classic cocktail that’s all class.

Looking for some budget-friendly bubbly to serve with all these delicious mixers and garnishes? We asked Casper Rice, wine director of D.C. restaurants Fiola and the upcoming Sfoglina, for his top all-star sparklers — all under $25 a bottle.

1. Barboursville Vineyards Brut Cuvée 1814

“This standout sparkling wine is produced in Italy using the champagne method. Made of pinot-noir grapes, it’s richer in style and very dry.” (Brut Cuvée 1814, $25; Barboursville Vineyards)

2. Patrick Bottex “La Cueille” Bugey-Cerdon Rosé

“Everybody loves rosé, especially in summer. ‘La Cueille’ is like drinking fresh strawberries with a hint of effervescence.” (‘La Cueille’ Bugey-Cerdon Rosé, $20; K&L Wine Merchants)

3. Juve Y Camps Reserva de la Familia cava 2011
Spanish cava is easy on the wallet in general. With fruity notes and chardonnay, this one’s “a great blank slate for a cocktail.” (Juve Y Camps Reserva de la Familia cava 2011, $17; Wine.com)

Everything You Need to Know About Writing Your Own Wedding Vows

Declaring your love for one another may seem easy — at least in the privacy of your own home. But if you’ve elected to write your own wedding vows, coming up with the write words to express just how you feel-in front of all your nearest and dearest-can be a daunting task. While we can’t write the words for you, there are a few steps you can follow to make the writer’s block go away:

Talk about your vows together.
One of the hardest parts about exchanging vows is worrying over how people will compare your words to your fiancé’s. Were hers longer? Did he get more sentimental? Did she make everyone laugh? Did he make everyone cry?

Instead of considering vow writing a competition, get on the same page about your expectations. You don’t have to share what it is you’re going to say, but come to an agreement about the following:

– How long will the vows be — short and sweet? No more than three sentences? No more than one minute?

– Will you share inside jokes? Or would you rather keep things more generic?

– Do you want to incorporate elements of traditional or religious vows into your own?

Consider these starter questions — but don’t hesitate to ask your significant other if you’re stuck on anything else. Once you two have a game plan in mind, writing will be easier.

Find a quiet place to write, and surround yourself with memories.
Don’t plan on writing your vows while your fiancé is in the other room with the TV blaring or when you have a work deadline on your mind. Find a time when your stress level is low and you can really spend a few quiet minutes thinking about your relationship. To help the ideas start flowing, consider propping pictures of you and your fiancé from throughout the relationship around your writing space as inspiration.

Start with a list.
Don’t try to put everything into sentences right away. The first step to writing your vows should be creating a list. Jot down all the things you love about your fiancé, what you’re looking forward to most in your marriage, and what promises you want to make to them as their future husband or wife. Set the list aside for a day or two, then go back and highlight your favorite items on the list. Use those as the starting point for your own vows.

Do your research — but don’t get stuck on other people’s words.
It’s easy to go down the rabbit hole Googling wedding vows from your favorite movies, TV shows, and books. Sure, these exchanges can be great inspiration, but avoid copying them word-for-word. Using someone else’s vows will make your exchange feel less genuine — and yes, people will notice. Your vows should be personal and reflect your own unique relationship — no one can describe your feelings for one another better than you. And don’t get stuck comparing your vows to a TV show wedding either: Those actors had a team of writers and editors crafting the perfect tear jerker of a line for them!

Take a break.
Once you’ve made your list, done your research, and written your first draft, walk away. Take a few days — even a week — to give you and your vows some space. After you’ve taken time apart, go back and reread what you wrote. A little separation from your words will do a whole lot of good and allow for you to fix anything with a clear head. If needed, do this one or two more times. But after three times, stop. The bottom line is that you wrote from the heart, and continuously rewriting will drive you crazy! Don’t put that pressure on yourself.

Don’t wait until the last minute.
Plan to have your vows written at least three weeks before your wedding. This will give you time to write without the added pressure of the approaching day and also give you time to practice reciting your vows in front of the mirror. Trust us: You’ll be thankful for the rehearsal when those wedding day jitters kick in!
