A Look Back at Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi's Wedding

Happy anniversary Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi! One of our favorite funny women married the Scandal star 8 years ago in spectacularly understated fashion — setting the tone for intimate weddings to come. Here, we look back on Ellen and Portia’s August 16, 2008 wedding.

The brides chose to forego a traditional big Hollywood wedding and instead had 19 close family and friends to their home to celebrate their wedding (the couple’s beloved dogs included).

For their big day attire, the brides chose custom-made Zac Posen creations. Portia got ahead of the trends in a dress featuring a blush tulle skirt and halter neckline. Ellen went for all white tailored pants and a vest. As they said their wedding vows in front of their closets family and friends, Ellen and Portia exchanged platinum Neil Lane wedding bands — to match Portia’s engagement ring, no doubt.”

Celebrity wedding planner Mindy Weiss designed the elegant affair — floor pillows and one long table decorated with Ecuadorian roses and dahlias (the work of florist Mark’s Garden) set the tone for the intimate affair. The couple’s personal chef David Silberkleit created a vegan menu for the reception, and L.A.-based bakery Sweet Lady Jane provided the red velvet cake — also vegan. Stevie Wonder’s “Ribbon in the Sky” was the song of choice for the brides’ first dance.

“I’m the luckiest girl in the world,” Ellen told People after the wedding. Portia shared the sentiment, telling People, “I was already planning on spending the rest of my life with her. But until you’re married, you just don’t know. It feels wonderful.” Here’s to many more anniversaries for this adorable couple.
